Is your kid a good sport? Here's 3 lessons one high school athlete ... (USA TODAY)

Grant Greiner is a standout two-sport high school athlete with a track record of good sportsmanship. Here's 3 things he said his parents taught him.

He doesn’t get super frustrated or super upset, which is easier on me to watch.” Grant has thrived, playing baseball and basketball (starting on varsity since he was a sophomore) with poise and confidence. “If you’re a Little League shortstop, you may end up being a first baseman or outfielder or catcher.” He was in charge of the Positive Coaching Alliance program for their Little League. He would follow teammate Mickey Mantle around the dugout in between innings and say: “Hey Mick, I’m pitchin’ a no-hitter here.” I like to walk the dog a lot.” It was kind of how Grant pitched as a 12-year-old. He had a young coach who demanded a lot of the kids. “It assured me all the hard work I’m doing helped. The setup works for them and fits with the philosophy of sportsmanship they've tried to uphold throughout their son's athletic growth. "And you have to bounce back. 'Go get him.' Straight cheering and watching and enjoying.”

Which country has better sports at center of Carroll vs. Ireland debate (Helena Independent Record)

The three Irish debaters, Ailbhe Noonan, 25, Gavin Dowd, 24, and Oliver McKenna from Cork, 19, won the Irish Times national championship on Feb. 17 in Dublin.

“...When the rising was happening, there was a major overlap in the number of people who joined the (Gaelic Athletic Association) and joined the Irish volunteer army. “We would go into the salon the Copper Queen, which was lovely and everyone was so friendly, but these are small, small communities so when you walk in all the heads turn then you tell them you’re Irish and straight away your best friends, and they went to tell you about their family. Before the debate, the Tiernan Irish Dancers ranging ages 3 to 18 put on traditional Irish dancing for a half hour with bouncing curls and all. “All our campus food at Sodexo – every bite - is baked in Irish sounds supplied by the cheerful voice of Clare O’Malley, catering manager.” “Also to respond to Vinny’s point on diversity, I think our team has great diversity -- we have two red-haired men and one woman, which represents the Irish population in a microcosm.” Part of the prize is a tour of American colleges, spanning from Tennessee to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Montana. We have hometown heroes, and as a proud Butte Central alumni, I’ll let you know that after Dougie Peoples buzzer beater three to win the state championship, I framed an 8 by 10 of him that I pray to every night,” joked Gallardo. and centered around whether Irish sports, such as hurling and Gaelic football, were better than American sports such as baseball and American football. They encourage a mass participation all the way down to the high school level. He noted how American sports do have community and encourage participation from a wide array of people, even those who aren’t athletic. “We do know that there is one thing the U.S. In a battle of green, white and orange vs.

Prioritise sports to spur Punjabi resurgence (The Tribune)

THE more I see the events unfolding in Punjab, the more I tend to go into the cocoon of the past. I look at the field of sports and find it has also become ...

Sports should be at the vanguard of resurgence of the Punjabi spirit — that is to excel, to be number one, to once again be the sword arm of the nation, the Gama Pehalwans, the Daras and Milkhas of India and to be the leading entrepreneurs in all fields. This is also necessary to stop the exodus of our youth to foreign shores and engage them in meaningful activity. I remember the annual match between DAV College, Jalandhar, and Khalsa College, Amritsar, that was a much-anticipated event in the state calendar and it drew thousands of students. The Punjab Police teams in hockey, football, basketball and athletics excelled because of the passionate patronage of leaders like late Ashwini Kumar who took personal interest at every level. In golf, Jeev Milkha Singh has won many major trophies on the European and Asian circuits and brought laurels to the country. Patronage is all the more important today as the state seems to be careening towards the abyss of chaos once again. THE more I see the events unfolding in Punjab, the more I tend to go into the cocoon of the past. The mofussil youth are hungry for success, glory and the accompanying laurels and they possess the guts, the grit and the strength to succeed. Then there was the Beighton Cup in Calcutta (now Kolkata), which also drew Punjabis from all around to watch the Punjab Police in action. The Kila Raipur Sports Festival, started by the Grewal Sports Association 90 years ago, is a great representation of this facet of rural life. Punjabis from the southern and western parts of the country would flock to watch the match (there was no TV). The Punjab Police hockey team always participated and invariably reached the finals.

Local youth were expecting baseball and sports fields in Phase One. Knowing the history of how projects progress in the county, it is easy to see that further delays for youth sports are likely to occur. The community youth and associated organizations, which have been major supporters of the project, were never notified of this major change to the plan. To allow this ill-thought-out and damaging action to stand is a major setback for youth sports organizations, coaches and local youth. Funding for the first phase was allocated and was shaping up to finally get construction going this year. In July last year, supervisors approved a revised landscape plan that, at the public's request, relocated all sports fields to the north-eastern side of the park, the sports field side, thus saving the famous Heritage Grove and many other trees (more details available at floodpark.org).

Locker Room Celebrations in Sports: Water, Water Everywhere (The New York Times)

Hold the champagne. Water has become the go-to beverage for celebrating success in sports.

Abe Eagle, a forward for Gonzaga, revealed that the team’s coaching staff this month engineered its own “sneak attack” after the team slipped by Texas Christian in the second round. They splashed bottles several times last year during a surprise run to the regional finals, but the experience left them wanting more. The golfer Lydia Ko was [soaked by her fellow competitors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHISxDPZCk4) after her first ever professional win — and, in keeping with a modern L.P.G.A. When Texas guard Sir’Jabari Rice sees his teammates holding bottles after a game, he waits patiently in the hallway for the deluge to end. Games, crucially, also tend to happen in the proximity of hot showers and dry clothes. “We can’t do none of that,” Terrance Arceneaux, a freshman guard for Houston, said about those boozy blowouts. But water in recent years has become the go-to beverage for athletes seeking a quick and relatively hygienic way to commemorate achievements large and small. Live From Men's Final Four: CBS Sports, WBD Sports Continue to ... (Sports Video Group)

The NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four is an annual breeding ground for technology and sports broadcast innovation, and while that's true again here in ...

CBS will televise the NCAA Final Four National Semifinals on Saturday and the National Championship on Monday, April 3. Another star of the camera arsenal is a drone, which has been approved to fly inside NRG Stadium and capture live images for the broadcast. [main game production on CBS will be anchored in Game Creek Video’s Encore A, B, and C units](https://www.sportsvideo.org/2023/04/01/live-from-mens-final-four-game-creek-video-swaps-out-79-for-encore-as-main-game-production-truck/). So mapping out everything from mobile units for each round in each city to the technology that goes into each game – the number of cameras, super slow motions, EVSs, robotics, Steadicams, power providers, and so on – it’s all a part of the plan and we just transition to what we have here at the Final Four.” Operations personnel from both sides of CBS and WBD have come together again to pull off a massive show. Discovery Sports will provide exclusive coverage of the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship from Houston, Texas. The game show has access to a whopping 16 super slow-motion cameras – including at standard hard camera and handheld positions, as well as on robos above the rims (4K, two-times cutout), ones shooting at 6x above the backboards, and on Pico cameras buried in the basket stanchion. A last Final Four in the storied career of Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame play-by-play man Jim Nantz is also the first in the 40-year career of lead director Mark Grant. It marks the first time that a drone has been allowed to fly inside the stadium during Final Four and National Championship Games. Neither Grant or operations are certain what its going to give them – if anything – but it was a no-risk gamble to maybe acquire an image that’s fresh and appealing. “While respecting all of that tradition, he was able to really, in a unique way, add some flair of his own and his own twist. Discovery Sports is also driving innovation in new and unique ways as a Final Four featuring three schools who have never been to this event before takes shape.

Youth sports still seeing participation in East Palestine (Warren Tribune Chronicle)

EAST PALESTINE — There weren't really doubts whether the children of East Palestine would be able to “play ball” this spring after the Feb. 3 Norfolk S.

“I had a guy from Pittsburgh that reached out to me on Facebook,” Simon said. “Fundraising is a huge part of every organization,” Simon said. “Our plan right now is to not use that until the cleanup area down there is done,” Simon said. “Business is good for us,” Vance said. “I mean, the businesses are getting killed right now on all aspects,” Simon said. And we also have the softball field in the center that we use for Tee-ball.” During the same time frame last year he had 15 to 20 people stop by the lot. “So with a lot of people talking about possibly moving or being relocated, we were concerned at first about what happens when you field the team with 11 kids. “Last year was a bigger year for us,” McKinstry said. East Palestine Youth Sports Association runs the youth baseball programs in town, and president John Simon said he has 80 to 84 kids in the program which is normal. “I did wonder what numbers we were going to have,” McKinstry said. He’s seen the transformation of the sport from favoring slow pitch to the fast-paced one that is common now.

“Truthfully it’s more of the schools from the Cleveland and Akron areas and even some to the south of us below Columbiana County that have had concerns,” Pavkovich said. If we’re still dealing with the same variables we are now, just from an aesthetic standpoint, we’ll have to look at changing it.” Even once momentum was established to convince districts it was safe to play sports in East Palestine, the district brought in many experts for a meeting March 22. What he saw was the schools willing to come to East Palestine running in the single digits for each meet. The East Palestine Relays on April 21 will be down to 12 schools instead of the 22 from a year ago, while the Howard Parker Middle School Invitational on May 5 will feature 12 schools instead of 18 the year before. The Columbiana County Cross Country Meet also is set for full attendance at Reid Memorial Stadium on May 2.
