Introducing: Tudor Adds An Opaline Dial To The Black Bay GMT (HODINKEE)

We've got a 'polar' sport watch from Tudor – and it looks ice cold.

The matte dial finish looks like it's even got a bit of a vintage vibe. Remember when Ben had that Albino Rolex GMT-Master in the Hodinkee office The markers have contrasting surrounds that look like a dark grey, that matches the seconds hand. It gives the dial a silvery hint. Loading... At Watches & Wonders, Tudor has introduced a new opaline dial to its Black Bay GMT.

First Look: Tudor Unveils The Third-Generation Black Bay Watch ... (aBlogtoWatch)

The new Tudor Black Bay is available now through authorized dealers. Although the Black Bay family continues to grow and diversify, Tudor has not neglected the model that started it all, and the new Tudor Black Bay points toward a bright future for the line with subtle visual updates, a robust new movement, and an overall look that respects the legacy of the series. Although the gilt dial hardware and snowflake handset are familiar Black Bay staples by this point, this next-generation Black Bay adds a gently domed dial surface and a striking new line of test at 6 o’clock – “Master Chronometer.” This is the only outward clue to the Black Bay’s new movement, and blends in nicely to the familiar layout in photos. The new Tudor Black Bay carries on the original model’s 41mm-wide case diameter and general shape, but there are significant changes to this stainless steel case design. As a start, the black dial surface now has a new, subtle sunburst finish, giving the design a touch more flash than previous iterations in images. [Tudor](https://www.ablogtowatch.com/watch-brands/tudor/) Black Bay nameplate is only a little over a decade old, having first been launched in 2012.

Prices are the same as the black dial GMT, which are $3,975 USD with the fabric strap and $4,300 USD with the bracelet. Tudor later followed it up with a slightly more exotic [S&G](https://www.ablogtowatch.com/first-look-the-tudor-black-bay-gmt-watch-travels-back-in-time-with-steel-and-gold/) (Steel and Gold) version. [Tudor](http://ablogtowatch.com/watch-brands/tudor/) seems fully committed to releasing updates to the Black Bay range. A movement that offers great specs for the money. Although the straps are nice, Tudor’s bracelets are made to very tight tolerances and would be my recommendation for a slight cost increase. It offers a [traveler GMT](https://www.ablogtowatch.com/do-you-need-gmt-watch/) function in a quality package at a reasonable price.

Tudor's Newest Dive Watch Is Packed with Historic Easter Eggs (gearpatrol.com)

The new dive watch introduced at Watches & Wonders 2023 is based on the very first diver from Rolex's sister brand.

Finally, the Black Bay 54 features 200m of water resistance, which is the same as the Black Bay 58 and twice that of the original ref. The movement is functionally the same as the Black Bay 58's MT5402 movement, it's just slightly smaller in size. Under the hood, the Black Bay 54 is powered by Tudor's Manufacture Calibre MT5400. [Black Bay 58](https://www.tudorwatch.com/en/watches/black-bay-58/m79030n-0001), the Black Bay 54's name comes from the year of the watch that inspired it — not the case size. The 54 is also available on a black rubber strap, similar to a Rolex Oysterflex bracelet, that's also fitted with the T-fit clasp. The Tudor Black Bay family is growing and we're here for it (T3)

New models include a burgundy bezel, new GMT with off-white dial, new Black Bay 54 and in-house movements.

[Black Bay 58](https://www.t3.com/reviews/tudor-black-bay-fifty-eight-navy-blue-review) (opens in new tab), albeit smaller, the new 54 has a simpler bezel with no intermediate hash marks between the 12 and 3 o’clock positions, as well as a new design on the edge of the bezel, and a new design of crown. For now, the 54 comes only in black with a stainless steel or rubber strap, both with T-Fit for on-the-go adjustability. Tudor says the dial is galvanised to give a silvery tint. This watch is otherwise the same as the black dial version, meaning the same 41mm stainless steel case and calibre MT5652 movement with 26 jewels and 70 hours of power reserve. Such certification is something we expect to see from Tudor’s entire lineup in the not-so-distant future. Those choices are stainless steel with three- or five-link designs, or black rubber.

Tudor Releases Two New Royal Watches In Salmon And Two-Tone ... (aBlogtoWatch)

The new Tudor Royal Salmon And Two-Tone Chocolate Brown watches, released in 2023, with expert analysis, specs, prices, and photos.

In some ways, it’s a bit surprising that the Royal hasn’t seen the same popularity as other watches within the Tudor line, considering the resurgence in popularity of integrated bracelet sports watches. Available in four case sizes (41, 38,, 34, and 28mm), the Tudor Royal is aimed at both men and women, with colorways that span the masculine-to-feminine spectrum. [Tudor’s](https://www.ablogtowatch.com/watch-brands/tudor/) trend of revamping staples across the lineup for Watches and Wonders 2023, the brand has released two new colorways in the Tudor Royal — salmon and chocolate brown.

Hands-On: The Tudor Black Bay 54 Doesn't Waste A Millimeter (HODINKEE)

Not here. With the Tudor, you get an actually small, vintage-like dive watch that still offers good water resistance, a luminous pip at 12 on the bezel, and a ...

Also seen in other no-date Tudor divers like the Pelagos 39 and the Black Bay 925, the MT5400 is produced under Tudor by Kenissi in a new Le Locle-based manufacture that is also where Tudor's watches, including the new Black Bay 54, are assembled. It's not the only option on the market, but I'd wager that after today – if you're in the market for a smaller dive watch – it's almost certainly on your list (or should be). The HODINKEE shop carries a variety of pre-owned [Tudor watches](https://shop.hodinkee.com/search?q=Tudor). With the Black Bay 54, Tudor has managed a cool trick. At 11.24mm thick, it's already a slim watch, but even compared to my Pelagos 39 (which is only 11.8mm thick), the two wear very differently and the 54 both looks and feels much thinner. Both work well and as much as I'm often a fan of 3rd party rubber straps, the T-Fit clasp and the fitted end links are both welcome refinements over more conventional aftermarket options. I think it's great that Tudor is including this on more of their bracelets – and even better that it's now available on the available rubber strap. Well, now I've had the chance to wear one for the better part of half an hour and I think Tudor made a great call in giving a smaller Black Bay the green light. The rest comes down to thickness and, and the manner in which the 54's various layers stack up on your wrist. Regardless, I really like T-Fit and it makes a lot of sense for a rubber strap that uses a fold-over clasp. The combination of minor detail tweaks (like the new crown and more sterile bezel, along with the very thin case profile) make for a lovely-wearing watch. With the Tudor, you get an actually small, vintage-like dive watch that still offers good water resistance, a luminous pip at 12 on the bezel, and a smooth 60-click bezel.

Tudor Reveals Its Latest Timepieces for Watches & Wonders (HYPEBEAST)

Tudor Reveals Its Latest Timepieces for Watches & Wonders: Comprising new Black Bay and Tudor Royal references.

Sporting a handy, multiple time-zone complication, the Black Bay GMT is equipped with all the usual design feats of the range, with added GMT function of course. Dubbed by the Maison as its “epitome of versatile and affordable sport-chic,” the Tudor Royal range welcomes two new dial colors — chocolate brown and a light salmon hue. Housed inside the Black Bay 54 is the MT5400 Manufacture movement that powers the watch for up to 70 hours. As for movement, the 31mm version runs on the MT5201, the 36mm on the MT5400, and the 39mm size with the MT5602, while the 41mm is powered by the MT5601 calibre. This currently only arrives with in the burgundy bezel with a contrasting, and slightly domed black dial, all housed in the “original” 42mm stainless steel case. This new addition to Tudor’s Black Bay is described as “the most true-to-form example” of the Maison’s first dive watch.

Hands-On: All It Took Was A New Dial To Make The Black Bay GMT ... (HODINKEE)

After years of standing in the shadows of its big brother, the Rolex GMT-Master, Tudor steps out into the spotlight.

The HODINKEE shop carries a variety of pre-owned [Tudor watches](https://shop.hodinkee.com/search?q=Tudor). Maybe it's the fact the watch is self-referential. It's nothing surprising in the context of the Black Bay GMT. It's a flat white dial with most of the contrast coming from the text, but it's somewhat of a unique take on white dial design language. There's no question now that at least one core white-dialed GMT release (not counting the meteorite dial in the Rolex lineup) out of one of Hans Wilsdorf's former companies is real. Tudor might have just fanned the flames of the debate once again but maybe questions of historical accuracy don't actually matter at the end of the day. As Tony mentioned in his introduction, this new "opaline" dial is a callback to the mythical (and questionably authentic) It was aesthetically so similar to what I wanted, and from its little-brother brand to boot, but I couldn't quite do it. I am totally on board with making watches more affordable for people who, like me, can barely stomach the price of a Rolex, and I think Tudor has been doing enough to stand on their own merits for quite some time, but the Black Bay GMT always left me teetering between being on board and feeling left out. I tried it on and in that moment felt like I was wearing the most valuable watch in the world. I remember walking into the RRL store in SoHo and seeing that watch in a case. Loading...
