Microsoft 365 Copilot is already being tested with a small group of customers to get the critical feedback required to improve these models as they scale. [Dynamics 365 Copilot](http://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2023/03/06/introducing-microsoft-dynamics-365-copilot/) as the world’s first AI Copilot in both CRM and ERP to bring the next-generation AI to every line of business. Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT” @microsoft) enables digital transformation for the era of an intelligent cloud and an intelligent edge. Currently in testing with select commercial customers, Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with business data and the Microsoft 365 apps, to unleash creativity, unlock productivity and uplevel skills. With these new tools, people can be more creative in Word, more analytical in Excel, more expressive in PowerPoint, more productive in Outlook and more collaborative in Teams. Copilot marks a new era of computing that will fundamentally transform the way we work.” Copilot will work alongside Microsoft 365 customers in two ways: [http://news.microsoft.com](http://news.microsoft.com/). Business Chat works across the LLM, the Microsoft 365 apps, and a customer’s calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts to do things that people weren’t able to do before. With natural language prompts like “tell my team how we updated the product strategy,” Business Chat will generate a status update based on the morning’s meetings, emails and chat threads. announced it is bringing the power of next-generation AI to its workplace productivity tools with Microsoft 365 Copilot.
1-Ranked Industry Analyst Patrick Moorhead looks at Microsoft's latest AI roadmap announcement and how it fits into the broader AI race.
The copilot would then compare the response to the calendar and other information, scanning multiple data points to answer the question: Is this true? With that said, I look forward to seeing how Microsoft helps its customers use their data-trained LLMs to make their organizations more intelligent and efficient. For example, if someone used the chatbot to write a technical brief, the AI can be constrained to capture documentation for that particular product only. This means that the experience will differ significantly from Bing, ChatGPT or other generative AI bots aimed at a mass audience. Unlike most LLMs, 365 Copilot does not use data inputs to train the LLM for use by others outside the organization. This integration makes complete sense to me; getting people to adopt new technology can be a chore, but putting a new technology next to something people already know and use—as a copilot—is a simple place to start. A big differentiator is that 365 Copilot harnesses organizational data and context from Microsoft Graph (more on that below). Because this will affect many different areas of Microsoft 365, including the Office apps most of us have been using for decades, this announcement has a much broader reach. As I have said before (and as Microsoft has acknowledged profusely), Bing still has kinks that need to be worked out. Microsoft's newest Copilot is embedded into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and more, making it a companion that works alongside users in apps they already use every day. Despite the subsequent media circus calling out the AI’s "hallucinations" and "feelings," I think the first week of this transformational technology was relatively smooth. I believe it launched a transformational change in technology not seen since the introduction of the modern internet, not just with AI chatbots, but with how large language models (LLMs) will affect many aspects of our lives.
Microsoft today demonstrated the many uses of its new 365 Copilot chatbot based on GPT-4, and the company introduced a new generative AI-based feature ...
Officials referred to it as a “sophisticated processing and orchestration engine” that combines the power of LLMs, “including GPT-4,” with the Microsoft 365 apps and a user’s business data in the Microsoft Graph, which is now accessible to everyone through natural language. “We added citations and introduced forms of friction to encourage back-and-forth collaboration [between the user and the Copilot]. “We not only built [data] grounding into the system, we built verification into the experience,” Spartaro said. The company said it is currently testing Microsoft 365 Copilot with 20 customers, including eight Fortune 500 enterprises, in order to "get feedback and improve our product as we scale." It can then use the format typically used for proposals by pulling from a user's history. “Our goal is to give people agency. “It inserts product images and pulls in relevant visuals from other files. Copilot combines a large language model (LLM) with the 365 suite and the user data contained therein. Co-pilot unlocks the other 90%,” said Sumit Chauhan, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office Product Group. "You’re always in control as the author, driving your unique ideas forward, prompting Copilot to shorten, rewrite or give feedback." Copilot lightens the load," Spartaro said.
Microsoft today announced new AI features for its Power Platform, which now allows users to describe their app in natural language.
Microsoft showed how its Copilot generative AI tools will change Teams, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications.
[version](https://powerautomate.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/automate-smarter-than-ever-before-with-ai-builder-and-copilot-in-power-automate/) of Copilot in Power Automate dubbed “describe it to design it” has been in preview since October, according to Microsoft. Unlike intelligent meeting recaps in Microsoft Teams, Copilot in Viva Sales is connected to CRM data to add more context and tone to customer conversations. Users can add trigger phrases, questions, entity, messages, variables and logic to the bots. Copilot uses post-processing to add more grounding calls, responsible AI checks, security compliance and privacy reviews before delivering a query response. And users can rate the generated content with a thumbs up or down to help refine future replies. Copilot will provide citations and a snippet of the transcript. “In the coming months,” Microsoft will release pricing and licensing information, bring Copilot to all productivity apps, expand previews to more customers and provide controls information to IT [administrators](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-blog/administration-of-microsoft-365-in-the-new-era-of-ai/ba-p/3767079) for planning. “But Copilot still saved you tons of time in the process.” Copilot can create visualizations as well. Users can view content shared during the meeting, notes and action items. Copilot can create customer proposals using OneNote files and other internal documents. Humans will always have the final say on Copilot produced content, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft unveiled its groundbreaking AI-powered Copilot, a tool designed to boost productivity and unleash creativity.
Microsoft 365 Copilot works with popular apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. It can summarize email threads, draft responses, and create calendar invites. Microsoft is testing Copilot with select customers and plans to expand the previews in the coming months.
Copilot helps to write, edit and summarise documents for you, create PowerPoint slides in seconds, as well as analyse data among other things.
Business Chat is accessible from Microsoft 365.com, Bing when the user is signed in with their work account, or from Teams. As with any new pattern of work, there will be a learning curve, but those who embrace this new way of working will quickly gain an edge. Additionally, Copilot in Teams can summarise meeting discussion points, indicate areas of agreement or disagreement, and suggest action items in real-time during the meeting. Meanwhile, Copilot in Outlook can summarise long email threads and quickly draft suggested replies, allowing users to clear their inbox in minutes instead of hours. Copilot in Word allows users to freely edit and iterate on this content, creating and prompting Copilot to shorten, rewrite, or give feedback as needed. “With our new copilot for work, we’re giving people more agency and making technology more accessible through the most universal interface — natural language.”

"We often make people adapt to the machines and systems we have built," Friedman said. Fine-tuning the technology and ensuring that its answers are factual is why Microsoft is testing Copilot with some customers before a wider rollout, Friedman said. The Copilot summarized his answer thus, during the interview: "Microsoft is working on lowering the cost and increasing the speed and fidelity of the models, but did not disclose the pricing or tiring of the copilot system." Friedman pointed to Microsoft's business chat experience as the biggest development on Thursday because it can handle tasks across applications. The capabilities that Microsoft and Google showcased are similar. First open to some 20 enterprises for testing, AI will offer a draft in these applications, speeding up content creation and freeing up workers' time, Microsoft said.
According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Copilot will fundamentally change the way we work and unlock a new wave of productivity growth.
Based on technology from OpenAI, the software can draft contextual chat and email answers to customer-service queries. This can save you a lot of effort and time. You can ask it to write a message to your team about the updated product strategy. The AI tool is meant to assist applications that handle tasks such as sales, marketing and customer service. Secondly, it has launched Business Chat, which works across your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings and contacts to lessen your drudgery and make you more productive. According to Microsoft, Copilot can give you a first draft, based on the prompts you give, to edit and iterate on.
Microsoft 365 Copilot may be the biggest upgrade to Office tools in decades. OpenAI GPT4 now comes to life in our everyday work experience.
I would remind you that Generative AI is not the discovery of a new form of life. Not only is Microsoft “betting the company” on Generative AI tools, they’re building the infrastructure to support it. The GitHub Copilot shows programmers how to improve their code while they type, revolutionizing the idea of “pair programming.” And since the LLM is essentially a “learning machine,” your Copilot will get better over time. [Azure OpenAI Services](https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/products/cognitive-services/openai-service), we can expect a new industry of add-ons to appear. You can rewrite text and tell the Copilot what “tone to use.” You can ask the Copilot to find emails about a topic and summarize what was agreed. And the idea of a Copilot sense: The Copilot is good for starting something from scratch and also for fine-tuning your masterpiece. And to double down on the effort, [LinkedIn announced a series of AI enhancements](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/unlock-opportunities-elevate-your-career-power-ai-tomer-cohen/) built on OpenAI too. The LLM does not share your local data, but you can “ground it” in your local information, so it develops “skills” (an AI term for learning) based on your information. Under the covers the Copilot is learning about your documents, schedule, and communications, so it gets smarter as you use it. They call it “ [Your Copilot for Work](https://news.microsoft.com/reinventing-productivity/).” It’s intelligent enough to outline and summarize meetings, analyze a spreadsheet, and select graphics that fit the text or message of a presentation.

Microsoft brings AI-supported tools to 365 productivity platforms Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word and more.
One highlight of Microsoft 365 Copilot is Microsoft Graph, according to Bob O'Donnell, an analyst at Technalysis Research. "Microsoft struck first and gained from a first-mover advantage," Castanon said. "In comparing to Google's announcements on generative AI for Workspace, it appears that Google is playing catch-up," Wong said. "Microsoft 365 Copilot will make it possible for nearly all employees to have 'everyday AI' in their digital workplace," said Jason Wong, an analyst at Gartner. "However, in essence, both companies are trying to do the same thing with the introduction of embedded generative AI capabilities in their respective productivity and collaboration product suites." Microsoft is ahead of Google in terms of timing, but both Google and Microsoft have the same goal, according to Raul Castanon, an analyst at 451 Research.
