Chelsea have many problems to fix. Now they need to add corners, defensive and attacking, to that list. And quickly.
Since 2016-17, this season is the highest in terms of the share of goals scored from corners in the league (15.06 per cent) and goals scored per 100 corners (4.07). The seven goals Chelsea conceded from corners this season have directly led to them losing eight points and their poor record in terms of attacking corners hasn’t helped either. On average, Chelsea are creating the worst chances from corners in the league. And when compared to previous seasons, the current tally of three goals is appalling. This leads to the final mistake, where Sterling inexplicably lets go of Kane. Near-post flicks towards Kane at the back post have been Spurs’ signature move this season. So it came as no surprise when they conceded a goal from a corner against Tottenham, who are one of the best set-piece teams in the league. Chelsea should have seen it coming. The mood around Chelsea is changing and there is growing concern Todd Boehly will sack Graham Potter after the next two matches, according to a report.
It is impossible to give decent game time to all of the senior players, resulting in dressing room tensions rising. The report describes this as ‘significant’, as the chiefs will be on hand to give Potter his marching orders straight away if both of those outings end in losses. And it is claimed the mood around Stamford Bridge is changing, with Potter getting ever closer to the exit door. The squad is incredibly bloated after so many new arrivals in the last two transfer windows. They state that if Potter’s men come out on the losing side to Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund, Potter is under serious pressure at Chelsea amid the club’s poor form.
Chelsea suffered yet another defeat as they lost to Tottenham Hotspur as the pressure continues to pile on Graham Potter.
If Potter can’t point them in the right direction, Chelsea will need someone else to clean up everything. I know the personality and quality in the team. It’s also true that Chelsea lack a true number nine, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been drafted back into the first team of late. “I know the responsibility,” Potter said after losing to Tottenham. “I haven't done enough at this club to have too much good faith,” Potter admitted afterwards, conceding that this five-month spell as Chelsea manager to date hasn’t gone as planned. Graham Potter had the look of a resigned man after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“My job is to keep going, to try and change the moment. The players are hurting. I take full responsibility for those results.” I’m not happy with them. Chelsea manager Graham Potter acknowledged he cannot rely on the support of the club’s board for much longer after a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday heaped more pressure on him.

Kai Havertz started against Tottenham and while there was his usual willingness to close down passing angles, the German didn't register a single shot. Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount appeared to apologise for the defeat – they certainly understood the pain that losing to Tottenham had caused. Harry Kane added Tottenham's second with eight minutes of time remaining; that was the cue for many in the away end to begin their journey home. It was different in the second half.

The Chelsea star bundled into the opposition ace and put his arms around the Argentina international in a hug of sorts. The Spurs star did not take too kindly and pushed Chilwell away before a brief stare down ensued and the referee quickly arrived. As the match entered its final 10 minutes, the defender ended up in a very brief tussle with Cristian Romero. Chilwell quickly turned to complain to his teammates with some enthusiastic gesturing, clearly very frustrated with the options he had received away from his flank. In a moment that perhaps summed up too much of Chelsea's play, Ben Chilwell was left angry with himself and his teammates. Though for Chilwell, his struggles persisted in the second period following a strong first half. He clearly couldn't continue, though the timing was smart form Silva to both disrupt and more easily ready his own substitution. Even in the moment of his own misfortune, Thiago Silva was still in control. It's entirely normal to see the Blues' substitutes remain out on the pitch with a ball each. But the Blues will be concerned about Silva's availability for Leeds, Borussia Dortmund and beyond. It did not take the Brazilian legend long to gesture to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, who were warming up, to speed up their process, rather than letting the bench know directly. However, defeat to Tottenham ensures Chelsea's form is at the forefront of everyone's minds.

Chelsea have seemingly come to a big decision on Graham Potter amid rising calls for his sacking and with a report naming five candidates being considered.
On the flip side, Jorginho is one of just six first-teamers to depart in that time. Another manager currently out of work is Luis Enrique, having stepped down as Spain coach after the World Cup. They are joined on the list by Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, who may cut ties there this summer. This is still the same message after the game today. Part of Potter’s problem has been how he has managed the massive squad at his disposal. They now face Leeds on Saturday in what is surely a must-win game for Potter. The west London side are in danger of suffering their lowest-ever league finish since 2015/16 when they finished 10th. This is why they are protecting him. And Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Tottenham, means they have now lost three games in succession. The Italian is adamant that Boehly has no plans to replace Potter despite the growing protests about his position. And while a late charge into the Champions League places looks unlikely – they are currently 14 points adrift – Potter needs the win to keep the wolves from the door. Chelsea news: The Blues are on their worst run in 30 years as Tottenham defeat lands another blow for Graham Potter.
Having tried old players, new players and a mixture there is no way to get the baby and the bath water to go. In a period of unprecedented turnover of staff and players, following on from an ownership last year, it is hard to see who would have been right for the job. The plates are being thrown at Potter from all over the shop and things are crashing around him. It's a perfect storm with him at the middle and although Chelsea fans couldn't imagine things getting much worse, they very well might. Within all this is a man who is trying to put an end to the rut. Of the 25 goals scored under him in all competitions (in 26 games) 17 came in the first month. Thomas Tuchel managed six games this season (a quarter of their current matches in the league) and had 10 points. Hoddle lost six straight games and also got just one point in a wider run of eight games, that became worse and finished at two points from nine games. Under Potter they have scored the fewest of any side in the league since he came in (15). To compound things Potter's 35% win ratio is the lowest since Glenn Hoddle in 1993. Perhaps what is even more worrying than that is that since November (a sample size of 12 games) Chelsea have just 10 points. To make it worse, they still have away matches against the top three to play.

Chelsea's inability to overcome adversity and score goals has underpinned their dismal run of form in the Premier League under Graham Potter.
Although there is a caveat that the game was a dead rubber with the Blues having already secured top spot in Group E. It's a very different story with the Chelsea faithful, many of whom want Potter gone and have been left with a feeling of apathy toward the side after recent results. But on the other hand, as a manager of Chelsea, you also need to give something. The only way he's going to be able to control it is by winning his next game against Leeds. The hour glass has been flipped, and the sand is beginning to collect on the bottom. The lack of progress is incredibly concerning, and at the moment it does not feel like the players are convinced that Potter is even the man to do the job. It is fair to give Potter the next two league games against two teams that have lost two out of their last three contests, and access after that. The answer to that question is extremely unclear. From 16th place to the top half of the table, the Seagulls would not be in the position there is this season if it was not for the brilliant work of Potter during his 135 matches on the south coast of England. The question has to be, when does the patience among the ownership expire?

Defeat to Tottenham has left Chelsea just 10 points above the Premier League relegation zone after 24 matches with pressure mounting on Graham Potter and ...
They have 31 points on the board – 10 of which were claimed in six matches under Thomas Tuchel – and a number of clubs between them and the drop zone. The form isn't anywhere good enough but only a handful of points are needed to reach the magic 40. What Chelsea have in their favour is that their next four Premier League matches are against clubs currently in the bottom half of the table: Leeds United, Leicester City, Everton, and Aston Villa. After 24 matches of the current campaign, the Blues are 10th in the table and only 10 points clear of the drop zone. [Potter](https://www.football.london/all-about/graham-potter) are past that point, however. Only three clubs (Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth) have secured fewer in that period – and they have each scored more goals than the Blues' meagre seven.

Surely the fans should be doing everything possible to ensure their team has the best chance of success, but those at Chelsea are currently doing the exact opposite. Potter himself has said he “understands” the frustration and believes the fans have every right to voice it, but do they really?
