'Outer Banks' Season 2: Recap And Ending: Everything You Need ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

It is unarguable that good writing can salvage or elevate even the most oft-repeated stories. When we started watching Season 1 of "Outer Banks," we ...

Rafe and Ward have the cross and the gold, but knowing that it is the legacy of Denmark Tanny, the pogues’ need to get the treasure is a matter of pride and justice and not just the money. But another surprise for everyone is that the rest of the Pogues are also on the ship, for the cross, and for Sarah. As for the Pogues, John and Sarah make up, and when they are on their mission to retrieve the cross, Sarah is kidnapped by her mother and taken away on a ship, where it turns out that her father is alive after all, and they are all escaping to make a new life somewhere else. While Kiara’s parents put her out of the house due to her irresponsibility towards them, Pope discovers that he is the descendant of Denmark Tanny. Clara finds that in Sarah’s home, where an entire room is the map of the island, which has been hidden beneath the wallpaper all this time; when Sarah sees that, she and the Pogues figure out that the treasure must be at the base of the Angel Oak tree on Goat Island. That is when they discover the clue to the treasure, which is in a church. While this problem is behind them, Sarah breaks up with Jon as she needs time to process everything that has happened, and she is unable to lean on John as he wouldn’t be able to support her in her grief when he hated her father for what he had done to John’s family. He confesses to all his crimes and even takes the blame for the murder of Sheriff Peterkin to let his son off the hook. Clara tells him that Denmark Tanny had brought freedom to his sons, but when he tried to do the same for his wife, she was shot dead by her owners as she was trying to escape. While he unsuccessfully tries to steal the gold from Ward’s house, Sarah is kidnapped by the captain and his crew. But unknown to Sarah and John, Ward Cameron has also come to the Bahamas. Another instance from the same episode is that of the wasp nest.

Netflix's OBX series returns for Season 3 on Feb. 23. Before the premiere, get caught up on what happened on the last two seasons here.

The Pogues orchestrate an almost-successful plan to win back the cross before jumping overboard and taking a lifeboat to The Pogues observe from a distance, then sneak onto the boat as stowaways to rescue Sarah and take back the cross. Through a series of clues deciphered through historical artifacts, the Pogues find the cross, but end up losing it to Rafe and Limbrey. The boat is seen capsizing, but John B and Sarah somehow manage to survive, then get rescued by a cargo ship headed to the Bahamas — where the gold has been flown by Ward’s pilot. ▪ Hello, Bahamas — Season 2 opens with plenty of action, as John B and Sarah arrive in the Bahamas as fugitives and are captured by the crew on the cargo ship that originally brought them to the island country. The group heads back to the Outer Banks, where John B is (wrongly) arrested for the murder of the sheriff. John B and Sarah manage to escape the island using a boat owned by JJ’s abusive father, heading straight into the storm. Most of the show’s main characters — teens John B, Pope, JJ and Kiara — consider themselves to be Pogues, while born-Kook Sarah Cameron becomes more of a Pogue as she begins a star-crossed romance with John B. Two main groups exist on the show’s fictional Outer Banks setting: the Pogues, or the working-class locals who live on “the Cut,” and the Kooks, the rich, upper-class people who live on Figure Eight Island — — Ward retrieves the gold, then makes plans to fly it by private plane to the Bahamas. Main character John B introduces the Outer Banks early on in the pilot episode, referring to it as “Paradise on Earth.” The characters — who, as John B says in a voiceover, are on a summer mission to “have a good time, all the time” — spend lots of time on the water, surfing, boating and fishing. ▪ Welcome to the Outer Banks — Let’s start with some scene-setting.

Netflix's 'Outer Banks' Buries Itself in Ridiculous Season 3 (Rolling Stone)

Class-warfare treasure-hunting YA series from Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke has gotten too big for its britches.

Somehow, the presence of a thousand hands for hire, constant street chases and shootouts aren’t enough to make the hour-long episodes go faster. Season Three of Outer Banks relies heavily on narration and flashbacks to keep its momentum going, a party trick that does little to hide its thin plot. It’s a pity, then, that Season Three sacrifices nearly all of the show’s original charm to keep its already-unbelievable treasure hunt theme going just a little while longer. Rutledge (Chase Stokes) and his friends Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and JJ (Rudy Pankow), known as the Pogues (a play on “pogies,” a type of small fish). By sheer luck, and the intervention of Jamaican newcomer Cleo (Carlacia Grant), the friends got out of enemy hands and became stranded on a desert island nicknamed Poguelandia. 23 — opens with the Pogues cheerfully enjoying their tropical paradise, it quickly leaves the island behind, sending the intrepid teens on the run (once again) in a last-ditch attempt to find their fortune and maybe stay alive in the process.

“I go to the chiropractor, I really try to drink a lot of water, because we’re always running around and I need to keep my skin hydrated.…I make sure I chill in moments when I can chill.” We love some self-care queens! According to both of them, self-care is especially important when they are filming, because many of the scenes can be so physically exhausting (read: lots of sprinting through fields, hiding in small places, acting through plane crashes and gun shots…the usual). So when we had the chance to interview a couple of the leads (lead Pogues, nonetheless) on [The Everygirl Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bonus-madison-bailey-and-carlacia-grant-of-outer/id1632453113?i=1000601185819), we were pretty pumped. “If my body hurts a lot from the physicality of the show, I’ll do some TLC on the weekends like book a massage,” Madison said. Similarly, Carlacia didn’t hear back for a while after she first tried out to be on season 2 of Outer Banks, and submitted her audition tape multiple times before being called back to do a chemistry read for the role of Cleo. JJ comes from a fraught home environment, dealing with his father's abuse and a lack of financial stability, and he often seeks refuge in the arms of his friend Kie (who he may or may not have feelings for). As the charismatic and carefree leader of the Pogues, John B is arguably the main character of the series. During the first two Seasons it's presumed that Big John is dead, but the Season 2 finale revealed that he is very much alive and is being kept hidden by Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell). A newer member of the Pogues, Cleo is getting to know everyone, especially Pope (who just might have caught her eye). Carlos Singh is the main antagonist of Season 3. As for his love life, his short-lived romance with Kiara turned out to be one-sided, but with the new addition Cleo (Carlacia Grant), there may still be hope for Pope's love life. JJ is John B's childhood best friend who comes from a self-proclaimed 'long line of fishing, drinking, vendetta-holding salt-lifers who made their living off the water." The Kook princess herself and honorary Pogue, Sarah Cameron marches to the beat of her own drum. Along the way, he falls for Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), a Kook princess from Figure Eight and the daughter of Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), who knows far more about Big John's disappearance than he lets on. John B is played by heartthrob and Florida native Chase Stokes who can be seen in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of With a bit of help from his friends like the straight-laced Pope (Jonathan Daviss), hot-headed JJ (Rudy Pankow), and hippie Kiara (Madison Bailey), John B sets out to find what exactly happened to Big John. Pogues, the adventure isn't over quite yet. 02.24.2023 by Janelle Sessoms.

If this is the setup for Season 4 that it seems to be, then the Pogues will be getting a taste of the pirate life. Everything seems to be perfect, but as the group joins the town in celebrating their achievement, a man approaches the group with a manuscript he needs investigated: the captain's log of Captain Edward Teach a.k.a. There, John B and Sarah rescue Big John and head out on the road to El Dorado, as Cleo, Pope, Kiara, and JJ find their own way. And in another stroke of tragedy, as the group rushes to get Big John to a hospital, he dies in his son's arms. Between coaxing John B into committing felonies, committing actual murder himself (although some could argue it was self-defense), and keeping secrets from the group, it seems Big John may be just as dangerous as some of the other ill-fated paternal figures in the series (*cough* Ward *cough*). However, the Season 3 finale left fans on the edge of their seats as it seemed the Pogues might be embarking on a whole new quest.

(Her voice is used to lure Sarah to a meeting with Ward, but she’s not physically present.) With Rafe causing trouble in the Outer Banks and Ward following in hopes of mending his relationship with Sarah, Rose and Wheezie are left to their own devices in Guadeloupe. After the Pogues bury Big John, the Outer Banks Season 3 finale, “Secret of the Gnomon,” flashes forward 18 months to a ceremony honoring their exploratory efforts. Unsurprisingly (but also surprisingly, if you know the treasure-obsessed Big John), he chooses John B and throws a lit firework deep into the cave. But clearly, something happened in the year-and-a-half since the Pogues returned with their spoils that prompted Topper to drop the charges — either that, or John B’s cut went to restitution. While Rose Cameron (Caroline Arapoglou) appears early on in the season — her big moment comes in Episode 1, “Poguelandia,” when she and Rafe fight over what to do with the stolen Cross of Santo Domingo — Wheezie Cameron (Julia Antonelli), Sarah and Rafe’s sister, is largely absent. The Netflix drama has given viewers every reason to suspect that Ward and Singh are still alive, though if only one will make it, things are looking a bit better for the latter. Will Ward follow through on his promise and hand over the keys to the kingdom to his sociopathic son? While the discovery allows the Pogues to even the playing field and go “full Kook,” their nickname for the OBX’s most privileged residents, it comes at a steep cost for Big John Routledge (Charles Halford), who dies after suffering a gunshot wound. As a thank you, Ward tells Rafe what he so desperately wants to hear: He’s “proved” himself by coming back for his father, and now, he’s been granted control over the family’s assets. Limbrey hired Big John to find the Shroud of Turin, a religious garment rumored to have healing powers, believing it will cure her of a mysterious disease. And yet, in the supersized finale, their search brings them deep into the jungle of South America, where they discover a cave filled with gold that has been untouched for over 500 years.

Outer Banks Season 3 Review: A Dud Villain Can't Stop the ... (TV Guide)

The Pogues return for a wild ride that mostly leans into the Netflix show's strengths and builds to a wild conclusion. Outer Banks Season 3 premieres Feb.

Perhaps even more fanatical than Singh, John B's dad, Big John Routledge ( [Charles Halford](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/charles-halford/3030111571/)) is back after his big surprise reveal at the end of Season 2 and eager for himself and his son to take El Dorado for themselves. The chemistry between the core characters is as fun and believable as ever, which is why it's a downer to see them split up so much throughout Season 3; John B, especially, is off with his father for big swaths of the story. It also doesn't help that he's being compared to Ward Cameron, who is just a great classic soap opera villain through and through, one whose personal relationship with our heroes makes their interactions all the more compelling. The teen angst is fun and necessary for the emotional high points to really hit, but each season's insane, not-in-any-way-plausible adventure plot is what makes Outer Banks so appealing. There's a similar issue with the villains of the show this season. But with each passing season, Outer Banks has begun to set itself apart from other teen shows by leaning into the adventure. [Chase Stokes](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/chase-stokes/3030872688/)), Sarah ( [Madelyn Cline](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/madelyn-cline/3030645833/)), Kiara ( [Madison Bailey](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/madison-bailey/3000866637/)), Pope ( [Jonathan Daviss](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/jonathan-daviss/3030663555/)), JJ ( [Rudy Pankow](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/rudy-pankow/3000847137/)), and newbie to the core group Cleo ( [Carlacia Grant](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/carlacia-grant/3000655197/)) — are stranded on an island in the Caribbean after their latest showdown with perfect soap opera villain, and Sarah's dad, Ward Cameron ( [Charles Esten](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/charles-esten/3030169931/)), went awry once again. Obviously, Ward and Rafe are back for their own special brand of shenanigans (as well as their own father-and-son side angst), and we're also introduced to a new outside villain this season, Carlos Singh ( Outer Banks is a show that knows exactly what it is, and it commits. I don't want to reveal too many plot details here since half the fun of Outer Banks is watching the big, confident swings the creative team takes in order to get from point A to point B. "Awry" here obviously means that on top of the hundreds of millions of dollars in gold that Ward and his son, everybody's favorite psycho Rafe ( [Drew Starkey](https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/drew-starkey/3030338133/)), stole from them previously, the Camerons also took the 8-foot gold Cross of Santo Domingo, a priceless relic tied to Pope's ancestors. It is ridiculous on so many levels, and that is why I love it.

Who Dies in Outer Banks Season 3? (Seventeen.com)

Lots of lives were lost in the recent season of Netflix's "Outer Banks," and two of them played a big part in the plot. Here's how it went down.

Although we finally (!) got a proper introduction to Big John in OBX3, he, unfortunately, doesn't make it to season 4. Ward has come close to death throughout the series and even faked his death with a massive boat explosion in season two. The two most shocking deaths this season, though, are Ward (which is actually real this time, unlike last season) and John B's dad, Big John. The dangerous hunt resulted in a few deaths by the end of the season — including that of two major characters. The Pogues start out season 3 on an island they've deemed their new home, but with no money and a lack of resources, they head back to [the OBX](https://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/movies-tv/a32188699/where-is-outer-banks-filmed-netflix/) to attempt a return to their normal lives before they began their tumultuous treasure hunt for the Cross of Santo Domingo. Halfway through the new season, that plan goes out the window when they discover the treasure is in the OBX.

The Roller Coaster Ending of Outer Banks Season 3, Explained (menshealth.com)

Netflix's 'Outer Banks' has an explosive Season 3 that ends with a roller coaster ride. Here's a breakdown of the wild finale, including who dies in Season ...

This is a perfect way to give our crew a whole new quest while keeping them in their hometown where they can continue to fall in love, fight the Kooks, and even find them selves a big more treasure. Big John is too hurt to go on, so he sends Sarah and John B down into the hole to find out what is on the other side. That’s when the rest of the Pogues arrive, with machetes, and tell Ward to drop his gun. John B gives us some hints to what all of the Pogues are up to. When they get out of the cave, Ward is there holding them at gunpoint telling them he’s taking all of the gold. As the crew searches for Big John they find him by, well, just hanging out on the street and hearing him get in a kerfuffle with Singh’s guards. Yes, they find the city of gold, except it’s not a city, it’s a glowing gold mine with nuggets the size of footballs. They put out their flare and find a phosphorescent handprint glowing on the cave wall. John B, Big John, and Sarah end up in a series of caves, but it’s a deadend. However, when they get to their destination, Ward is too injured to make the long trek into the jungle. (Yes, this season had it all!) They are dropped off with the vague warning that JJ owes narco Barracuda Mike (Justin Matthew Smith) big time when they get back to the OBX. He presents them with a ship’s log from 1718, that shows the exact location where the ship sailed and where it stopped.

The Outer Banks Season 3 Ending, Explained (Seventeen.com)

They're headed to Tres Rocas, South America to save John B's dad, Big John, and snag the El Dorado gold before this season's main villain, Carlos Singh, and his ...

They end up finding a massive pile of El Dorado gold and fill their bags with some of it, only to find Singh at the front of the cave. He and Ryan end up in a scuffle, where they end up being pushed off the cliff and dying. Big John ultimately bleeds out and dies during the journey. As they take in the moment, a man with a manuscript proposes a new quest for the Pogues that surrounds Edward Teach (a.k.a Blackbeard). John B, Sarah, and Big John safely make it to Jose's boat on the river while John B uses the rosetta stone to help them translate the glyphs they need to get to the treasure. A fight breaks out, which results in Big John getting shot, but he muscles through it and continues on his journey with the Pogues. Ward and the other Pogues notice the explosion and head in that direction, with Ward getting there first. Sarah, John B, and Big John manage to make it before they ran out of time and correctly make out the translation. If only it were that easy to get the gold — Ward shows up with Singh and his men, who were sent their location in exchange for Sarah's safety. Of course, Big John doesn't go down without a fight — he refuses to give him the directions and knows Singh won't kill him since he is the only person who knows how to get there. While it originally started in the OBX, it eventually led them to the Bahamas in season 2 and South America in season 3. As everyone touches down in Tres Rocas, they're ready to save Big John and find El Dorado.
