"We continue to believe NVDA's long-term prospects are some of the best in the semiconductor industry given the proliferation of generative AI models," wrote Piper Sandler's Harsh Kumar on Wednesday. "Given the run the stock has had we believe many were nervous into the print, but the results seem to bolster the set-up from here which seems good at this point," he wrote, adding that developments in AI should enable long-term investors to "dream the dream." For many analysts, including JPMorgan's Harlan Sur, Nvidia's results and guidance also seemed to confirm that a "gaming inventory correction is behind and the team is well-positioned for sustained growth acceleration."

During the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023, NVIDIA returned US$1.15bn to shareholders in share repurchases and cash dividends, bringing the return in the fiscal year to US$10.44bn. GAAP and non-GAAP operating expenses for the quarter are expected to be US$2.53bn and US$1.78bn respectively, while income is expected o be approximately US$50mln, excluding gains and losses from non-affiliated investments. Nvidia is expecting revenues of US$6.5bn, plus or minus 2%, for the first quarter of the 2024 fiscal year, while GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins are expected to be 64.1% and 66.5%, respectively. Nvidia also has its fingers in the metaverse pie through its cutting-edge Omniverse technology, although revenues in that department from a minuscule part of the top line and fell sharply throughout the year as interest for metaverse technologies waned. Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share for the fourth quarter was $0.88, down 33% from a year ago but up 52% from the previous quarter. That sounds mediocre at face value, but following a year of record pandemic-era GPU sales was always going to be a tough ask for the California-based technology multinational.

Nvidia and AMD Gaming Revenues Are Closer Than You Think (Tom's Hardware)

Nvidia results are better than expected, with the shares going up over 10% in afterhours trading. However, AMD gaming revenue is now very close to Nvidia's.

As for total gaming segment revenue, AMD will still likely enjoy the support from the very strong demand for Sony and Microsoft consoles, but we don’t have much in the way of indications for its mainstream [RDNA 3 graphics card](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-rdna-3-gpu-architecture-deep-dive-the-ryzen-moment-for-gpus) product launches. Yes, the gaming revenue was down, but there was a bright spot for Nvidia investors in the data center. Thus, we observe the gaming revenue difference between the green and red teams from their latest financial statements is a measly 10 or 11%, and could turn either way in the coming months. Meet the $10000 Nvidia chip powering the race for A.I. (CNBC)

The $10000 Nvidia A100has become one of the most critical tools in the artificial intelligence industry,

government imposed a license requirement barring the export of the A100 and the H100 to China, Hong Kong, and Russia. The A100 also has the distinction of being one of only a few chips to have export controls placed on it because of national defense reasons. That doesn't count the cost of "inference," or deploying the model. If you want to scale at the scale of Google, which serves 8 or 9 billion queries every day, you actually need to spend $80 billion on DGXs." Ampere is Nvidia's code name for the A100 generation of chips. On Wednesday, Nvidia said it would sell cloud access to DGX systems directly, which will likely reduce the entry cost for tinkerers and researchers. "There's no question that whatever our views are of this year as we enter the year has been fairly dramatically changed as a result of the last 60, 90 days." [to one estimate](https://www.stateof.ai/compute) from the State of AI report, which charts and tracks which companies and universities have the largest collection of A100 GPUs — although it doesn't include cloud providers, which don't publish their numbers publicly. Nvidia takes 95% of the market for graphics processors that can be used for machine learning, according to New Street Research. Stability AI is the company that helped develop Stable Diffusion, an image generator that drew attention last fall, and reportedly has a valuation of [over $1 billion](https://techcrunch.com/2022/10/17/stability-ai-the-startup-behind-stable-diffusion-raises-101m/). This means that AI companies need access to a lot of A100s. After that, GPUs like the A100 are also needed for "inference," or using the model to generate text, make predictions, or identify objects inside photos.
