❌ "What a clearance! This time it was Raphael Varane with an own goal three minutes after the break, the French international turning in a cross from Crysencio Summerville. So I’m not aware because we are playing so many games in this moment. The new format would see 60 to 80 teams competing in a “multi-divisional competition”. It was a disappointing result, certainly, as the visitors caught Ten Hag's men cold, not once but twice! He oversaw a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday. He would return and score as a second-half substitute in United’s victory over Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on February 1, only to miss United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace a few days later with another injury — this time, his hip. It is really a pity that he is disappointed. “It is in his own hands and so if he wants, he can do, and in this team, it is great to play. You can see when he is in good levels, he is an outstanding player. “He is a brilliant footballer and if he can invest in the right levels he can be outstanding. Urging Sancho to build on his vital intervention, Ten Hag said: “I am really happy he is in the right direction.

Match report and free highlights as Manchester United beat Leeds 2-0 at Elland Road to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to five points; ...

"But they had one chance and you can't give a player who's that much in confidence time in the box to score goals. We try to go after the game and try to win it. It came early on in both halves but we focused and knew our quality would come through so we had to battle and fight for every ball. The Brazilian produced an accomplished display in West Yorkshire, ranking first for tackles won (eight) and intensive runs (292). We had some big chances in the second half. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports: "We needed more composure in the game and I think that was the big problem. "I try to be positive and the group tries to be positive. United did well to weather the Leeds storm and there was still time in the half for one more chance. You have to use your squad when it's like that and everyone is contributing, everyone is important and that's a good thing to know. Leeds will take confidence from earning a draw at Old Trafford and pushing their opponents all the way again at Elland Road, but their winless run in the Premier League extends to nine games. Jadon Sancho started for the first time since returning to the first-team fold. Just like in Manchester four days ago, Leeds started on the front foot and almost took an early lead but Crysencio Summerville blazed over from a few yards out.

Leeds United 0-2 Manchester United: Marcus Rashford and ... (Eurosport.com)

Marcus Rashford once again proved to be the difference in Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Leeds United in a scrappy contest at Elland Road.

Leeds earn a free-kick and the clearance falls to Ayling at the edge of the box. Leeds have been the better side but the man comes up again to save his team! There is a penalty shout there as Maguire had wrestled Bamford to the floor, but nothing is called. The ball unfortunately hits Maguire and then lands back to Summerville, but the Leeds man can't get another shot off. Fernandes want a penalty, gesturing wildly to the ref, but he does not get the call. Rashford, who was relatively free in the area, rose and headed it straight into the back of the net to score his 21st goal in all competitions this season.

Talking points from Elland Road (Manchester United)

Manchester United defeated Leeds United away from home on Sunday, earning all three points with a 2-0 victory. Though the Reds struggled to carve out many ...

Our no.1 was integral in us collecting all three points, pulling off a handful of exceptional saves at 0-0 to keep the win within our grasp. Once again today, he turned to his bench in need of a difference-maker and both Lisandro Martinez and Garnacho had the desired impact. Our no.10 came up clutch once again for the Reds, with his bullet header as we entered the final stages of the game breaking the deadlock. Fred was full of energy for the entirety of the match and was absolutely everywhere, making key interceptions and tackles to deny Leeds goalscoring opportunities. Rashford’s opener really helped them get into the spirit, and when Garnacho scored to make it two, the Reds were rocking in the away end. Unsurprisingly, the hosts made a quick start, and from carving out attacks to the challenges flying in, the home fans were in full voice.

De Gea: It's a perfect day (Manchester United)

United's no.1 speaks on making 400 appearances in the Premier League and on our win against Leeds United at Elland Road.

"I made a couple of good saves and then the team scored a great goal. "They have 10 to 15 minutes where they create a couple of chances," he explained. It's going to be a big game, Barcelona. The best of those fell to Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, who both forced the David into action. So, [it was a] perfect day." A lot of goals, helping the team, running, pressing.

"United have to keep doing what they are doing winning football matches. "But Manchester United - the players, the manager and the fans - have to look at the table and if City slip up as they have done and Arsenal continue their difficult run, they have to be ready to pounce, just in case." I don't think Ten Hag was taking chances. "Obviously, Arsenal and City are ahead of them but what they have to do, if any of the teams above them slip up, they have to be ready to pounce," Keane told Sky Sports. "So, they have just got to hang in there and hope that Arsenal and Man City aren't quite right towards the end of the season, but I just think they aren't quite ready yet." "I just don't think they can win the Premier League for the reasons that they have so many games and I just don't think they are at the level of Man City and Arsenal."

Erik's breaks down our win over Leeds (Manchester United)

Erik ten Hag offered an insight into the tactical decisions he made when the Reds triumphed at Elland Road.

[Tyrell Malacia](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/tyrell-malacia)'s selection and position was also carefully explained by the boss. "With Bruno [Fernandes] on the right and Garnacho on the left, it was a dynamic to change the game and I think we can benefit from it. I know him from [his] youth that he can play there," Ten Hag said. "In my perspective, the best at that is [Marcus Rashford](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/marcus-rashford) going central to accommodate the introduction of [Alejandro Garnacho](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/detail/alejandro-garnacho-mens-team). Rashford keeps Man United in title race with another goal (ESPN)

Marcus Rashford has 13 goals in 15 games since the World Cup, and his scintillating form is keeping Man United in the Premier League title race.

A rare start for the United captain, but he was shaky and unconvincing, never more so than when he was caught out by [Jack Harrison](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/199850/Jack-Harrison) when making a careless back-pass. Only Ryan Giggs (632) and Paul Scholes (499) have more Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. [Jadon Sancho](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/259836/Jadon-Sancho) with a heavy first-minute challenge -- it was tough, but fair -- it not only sparked the Leeds crowd, but it also served as a message for his teammates that this was a game in which every 50-50 tackle had to be won. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will continue to work together with our respective fan groups and the Premier League and other authorities on eradicating it from football." Fernandes is a talent, but he needs better players around him and this game seemed like a return to last season, when the midfield was lacking in too many areas. Casemiro has been United's best player this season and their driving force, while Eriksen has quietly impressed with his creativity and ability to control the tempo of a game. In a relegation battle, the players and crowd need to feed off each other, but Adams and McKennie already seem to have got the message. Neither tackle was pretty, but Adams and McKennie both displayed the fighting spirit that Leeds will have to repeat from now until the end of the season. Casemiro, meanwhile, was serving the second match of a three-game domestic suspension following a red card for violent conduct against Crystal Palace last week. If not for those dropped points, United would be right at the heart of the title race rather than now being in third, hoping for Arsenal and City to slip up. At this stage, United are clearly outsiders in the race for the title, but Rashford's goal has kept their hopes alive. Garnacho's individual strike five minutes later made the game safe, but it was Rashford's goal -- his 13th in 15 games since the post-World Cup restart -- that was the winner.

Leeds and Manchester United condemn 'unacceptable' tragedy chants (The Guardian)

The Premier League said it was treating 'tragedy chanting' as a 'matter of urgency' after extremely unsavoury behaviour by fans at Elland Road.

But after the first goal there was more composure.” Marcus has to keep focusing on every game, one by one, and if he does that he will keep scoring.” “If you are satisfied you will stop,” he said. “I was pretty excited to work with him when I joined the club last summer. The Premier League has a working group on tragedy chanting which also involves clubs, the Football Association, English Football League and Football Supporters’ Association. “He’s certainly one of them,” he said.
