A corner routine saw Mount go short to Hakim Ziyech, and the Moroccan curled a cross deep into the box for Fernandez to meet. It was a gift from West Ham, and it got even better for the Blues six minutes after the restart when Havertz grabbed his second and Chelsea's third of the game. Havertz got there first and chipped the ball across goal, and Mount was on hand to meet the cross, heading into the net to make it 1-0. It was a very even start at the London Stadium, with Michail Antonio and Kai Havertz both having great chances to open the scoring early on, but good goalkeeping at either end kept the score level.

Chelsea looked superb in the first half as they scored a beauty with a perfectly timed pass over the top and they scored two others when they were just offside. Joao Felix put Chelsea ahead early on but Emerson Palmeri equalized in the first half, as the visitors also had two goals disallowed for offside and West Ham had what they thought was a late winner from Tomas Soueck ruled out for offside by VAR. Chelsea back on top now as they push to regain the lead. Enzo Fernandez ticked things over nicely in midfield and Chelsea had plenty of the ball but they just couldn’t control the tempo of the game for the full 90 minutes.
