Reports: Kyrie Irving requests trade from Nets before deadline | NBA ... (NBA.com)

The All-Star guard has reportedly informed the team he wants to be dealt before the Feb. 9 trade deadline.

Irving was suspended by the Nets earlier this season after posting a link to a documentary with antisemitic material and vowed upon his return to focus on basketball. The Nets acquired the three-time scoring champion from the Houston Rockets in a January 2021 deal, with the idea that Harden, Kevin Durant and Irving would be too potent to stop. In the 2021-22 campaign, guard James Harden sought a trade from Brooklyn and got one on trade deadline day as he [2023 All-Star Game](https://www.nba.com/allstar/2023/all-star-roster) and is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this season for the Nets. 4 Kyrie Irving trade ideas with Lakers, Suns, Heat, and Mavericks (SB Nation)

Kyrie Irving has again decided he wants to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets. The star guard asked Brooklyn's front office to trade him on Friday afternoon ...

Will the Nets actually trade Irving this time around? Irving projects as a great on-court fit next to Doncic because he’s an elite ball handler and a great shooter. The first round picks in 2027 and 2029 are the next available draft picks for the Lakers to trade, and would likely have to be unprotected to get Brooklyn to think about biting. The Lakers would then presumably pay Irving a max deal even if that meant paying the luxury tax. Who would possibly want to trade for him and then sign him to a max extension? Kyrie Irving has again decided he wants to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets.

Hollinger: Nine potential Kyrie Irving destinations and what a trade ... (The Athletic)

Front office insider John Hollinger analyzes, and ranks, the nine possible trade partners for the Nets in a potential Kyrie trade.

[Lakers](https://theathletic.com/nba/team/lakers/). [Khem Birch](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/khem-birch-XEXE5uvh2pS7ufKn/) and Otto Porter. to the Lakers for their 2029 first, and [Patrick Beverley](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/patrick-beverley-un2M7ixIUPcicY97/) going to the Nets. The Clippers are only 24th in offense despite having [Paul George](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/paul-george-kIIUTtsJtSpaZfu1/) and [Kawhi Leonard](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/kawhi-leonard-ZVBR9DRffqJpzLHV/). [Fred VanVleet](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/fred-vanvleet-DJq74red8aTFXbfg/) does not make sense. [Trae Young](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/trae-young-pMqz7IIVkDhPCk6P/) for Kyrie? Far more sense than, say, trying to reunite [Russell Westbrook](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/russell-westbrook-6Eb0XPY16UzzJWbc/) and Durant. They would need to flip those assets to a team like Toronto to get a point guard, since the three players from the Clippers would be of only nominal value to them. Atlanta surely turns that down, but what if the Nets sweeten the pot by agreeing to swap [John Collins](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/john-collins-clt53Cta3GNiC4xs/) for [Joe Harris](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/joe-harris-QESU2aIXmpGRn50l/) and throwing in the Sixers’ pick? Sending Devonte’ Graham, [Jonas Valanciunas](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/jonas-valanciunas-6YEYoGmoBlSfpHhs/), Jaxson Hayes and [Garrett Temple](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/garrett-temple-5c53TtCNO9BWk3sx/) puts just enough salary into the deal to match Irving, take back [Markieff Morris](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/markieff-morris-j4uvbWutmKDfJnLs/) and [Yuta Watanabe](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/yuta-watanabe-xZKhBlhbOvVWEXLh/), and stay under the luxury tax line. Remember, Toronto could potentially bleed an extra Nets draft pick (more likely the Philly ’27 choice) out of this situation to be the third team in the ring. Such a move would throw the Hawks a salary cap life raft, with Harris’ deal coming off right as the team has to pay [Dejounte Murray](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/dejounte-murray-tm3kUMS7SqPU8gXQ/).

Begley doesn’t specify whether Tsai is only opposed to the idea of a long-term maximum extension for Kyrie or if he’d also be opposed to guaranteeing him the max for one or two years. Either way, the difference in opinions on Irving’s value going forward was clearly the driving factor in his decision to request a trade. Could there be other teams willing to enter the fray and make a play for the Nets star?
