How will Everton sacking Frank Lampard affect Sunderland's Ellis ... (Sports Illustrated)

So, would Lampard being sacked change anything? How will Frank Lampard sacking affect Sunderland Ellis Simms deal? You'd have to say there is a very good chance ...

"We have to try and do our business now, that's the way it has to be. It'll depend on whether we can get some more signings over the line because we have to push on with signings. We just have to do our business and look after Sunderland AFC by bringing in another option or two as strikers. "That's football, we have to do what's right for us. "We can't wait for Everton to decide whether Ellis Simms is coming back or not. They will have done their own assessments on where Simms is right now and are unlikely to want him to be starved of football at such a critical time in his career. We can't wait for Ellis hoping that on the last day they say he can come back,” However, a new manager will want to reassess everything and make his own judgement on the squad. You’d have to say there is a very good chance it will scupper it entirely. By the same token, an internal or quick appointment would help Sunderland’s cause. After all, Everton may well need a ready-made top Championship striker for next season. He has played a total of 15 minutes in four matches since returning to Everton.

Everton sack manager Frank Lampard after calamitous run of defeats (The Guardian)

Everton have sacked their manager Frank Lampard after a dreadful run of 11 defeats in 14 games that culminated in a 2-0 loss at West Ham.

Everton chose to stand by their latest manager with Moshiri claiming he had faith in Lampard’s work and that stability was required only 13 days before sacking him. There were chants of “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” towards Lampard’s players as well as renewed calls to sack the board following the loss to Southampton, when directors stayed away on the advice of the club’s security staff. Everton sold last season’s leading goalscorer, Richarlison in July to help them comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules. Lampard had expected to be backed in the January transfer market given there is a recognition throughout the club that the team’s striking options must improve. Lampard had overseen just one win in his last 12 Premier League matches and had been in a precarious position since the Boxing Day home defeat by Wolves, who were bottom at the time. Moshiri left the London Stadium, where he made a rare visit to watch the team, bizarrely claiming that a decision on Lampard’s future was not his to make.

Nobody has completed two full seasons in the hot seat since 2016. Wayne Rooney, Duncan Ferguson and Nuno Espirito Santo have also been linked with the job. Despite a positive start to this season that saw Everton lose just two of their first eight games and on the verge of the top half, their form has plummeted since a 2-1 win over Southampton in early October. The win over Palace saw the Toffees come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 to confirm their survival - in an evening that Lampard described as 'one of the greatest nights of my career'. He had seen Everton miss out on a number of transfer targets that he was keen on – most notably Danny Ings, who left Aston Villa to join West Ham – and was on the back foot from the start of the season after Richarlison was sold to Tottenham. It has been a hugely challenging time for Lampard, who had a grown to have a huge affinity for the club, was enjoying living in the North West and was desperate to bring success to a set of fans who had never given him anything other than public support.

Everton fires Frank Lampard with team in relegation zone (The Washington Post)

Everton has won nine top-flight league titles — the fourth most in English soccer behind Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal — but none since 1987. The drought won’t end this season because Everton is already out of both domestic cup competitions. That’s because the club keeps changing managers, with Lampard following Roberto Martinez, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael Benitez since Moshiri’s arrival. Fans have become increasingly irate at the club’s situation, focusing much of their frustration at Moshiri and the board. Everton’s 2-0 loss at West Ham on Saturday was the team’s ninth defeat in its last 12 matches and proved to be Lampard’s final game in charge. 14, Everton said its board of directors were told not to go to Goodison Park because of what the club claimed to be a “real and credible threat to their safety and security” — citing “malicious and unacceptably threatening correspondence” and “targeted physical aggression.”

The fans know it, ex-players know it, people in football know you have to build from a foundation. There is certainly a vote of no confidence in the people that are making the decisions for Everton going forward. The form we are in, it's relegation form. "No-one at the football club, I think, has asked: 'What do we do after Frank?' It is going to be interesting to see what the board and owner do because all the eyeballs are on them right now." The players, they aren't good enough; recruitment, it's not been good enough. Everton, I think, are staring the obvious in the face as we speak. The recruitment has been shocking. Whoever comes in, and I have to be honest I don't know who it will be that can save them, they've got a monumental job to keep them up this season." His record hasn't been great this season and unfortunately he's lost his job as a result of it." Lampard took his first steps in management with Derby in 2018. Points per game

"There were painful defeats at home to Wolves and Southampton, fellow strugglers around Everton in the table. "Everton are not getting a return on the over £500m they've invested in recruitment. Everton have not been able to build on that and find themselves in another relegation battle. Lampard was hired by Everton to replace Rafael Benitez in January last year, but the former Chelsea boss leaves with the team languishing 19th in the table.

“I hope to get to the majors before I turn 26,” Lee said at a news conference announcing the signing in Taipei on Wednesday. Goals from Giovanni di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen immediately either side of halftime made sure that Napoli would be at least nine points clear at the halfway point of the season after a straight-forward win in soaking Salerno. Veteran Andy Murray battled through a five-set epic against home hope Thanasi Kokkinakis which ended at 4:05am yesterday morning to reach the third round, calling the early hours conclusion “a bit of a farce.” “I don’t know who it’s beneficial for. “Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken, it said. Twenty-one-year-old Taiwanese pitcher Lee Chen-hsun on Wednesday said that he hoped to make it to the majors before he turns 26, after signing with the San Francisco Giants earlier this week. “Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months.”

Frank Lampard sacking at Everton should settle Steven Gerrard ... (Liverpool.com)

Frank Lampard has been dismissed by Everton. He and Steven Gerrard have now both been sacked this season, but Liverpool knows one is not like the other.

He may have taken over in less than auspicious circumstances, but much the same can be said for Gerrard, who joined Rangers with the daunting task of preventing [Celtic](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-replace-jurgen-klopp-fsg-26029926) from winning a tenth successive title. [Ballon d’Or](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-mohamed-salah-sadio-mane-25290196) votes. The challenge for Gerrard is proving his skills at Rangers can translate to another club, making his next appointment vitally important. [win percentage](https://footystats.org/managers/england/frank-lampard) as a coach is 44.09 per cent. Staunch defenders of Lampard would point out that Gerrard had a spell at Rangers, traditionally a dominant force in Scottish football and always likely to pick up a lot of wins. It may be that neither end up with long-term careers in management. [Gerrard](https://www.liverpool.com/all-about/steven-gerrard) has found himself lumped in with Lampard when it comes to managerial assessments. He did exactly that, and did so on the way to an invincible and centurion campaign. Lampard has nothing even close to that on his résumé. A better trophy haul could be countered by a three-nil scoreline on [UEFA](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-european-super-league-uefa-26007085) Team of the Year inclusions. Even in what was clearly a poor spell with Aston Villa, Gerrard beat both of those numbers, and his overall record stands at a far healthier [59.3 per cent](https://footystats.org/managers/england/steven-gerrard#:~:text=Steven%20Gerrard%20is%20a%2042,their%20coaching%20career%20thus%20far.) — marginally better than that of a certain [Jürgen Klopp](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/sadio-mane-klopp-liverpool-fsg-26046084). The Steven Gerrard versus Frank Lampard debate dominated schoolyards for much of the 2000s, but the Liverpool and Chelsea icons have endured stuttering starts to life in the dugout.
