Banchan Brings Two Characters Together In A 'Crash Course In ... (Forbes)

'Crash Course in Romance' stars Jeon Do-yeon and Jung Kyung-ho.

Jeon recently appeared in the films Emergency Declaration and Beasts Clawing At Straws, as well as the heartbreakingly dramatic TV drama Lost. Jung Kyung-ho’s extensive acting career has spanned a variety of genres, including the occasional rom-com. The moms of her classmates recommend Hae-e sign up with the best teacher, which is Chi-yeol. People line up to take his class and he’s such an academic star, he’s referred to as the “BTS of education.” He even has his own fans, over-enthusiastic lovestruck schoolgirls that wait for him after class and stalk him. He has trouble eating and when he does eat, his system rejects even the tastiest food. The first time Haeng-son, played by Jeon Do-yeon, meets Chi-yeol, is when she accidentally crashes into his stand-up cardboard figure.

Crash Course in Romance Ep 1-2 Review: Should you tune into ... (PINKVILLA)

With Choi Chi Yeol and Nam Haeng Soon, two people from very different worlds, this story opens with an exciting storyline. Read the first week's review ...

The plot is unique and though it is expected to show some stereotypical curves in the coming days, the start was fairly new with a ‘banchan’ setting yet to be explored in depth. For some reason, the shots in the banchan shop are being given a tint to make them look shabby or add a less privileged feel to them, however, they only make the store look old school making a complete contrast with the ‘current education system’ angle of it. We will be waiting for the whole show to be out before binge-watching it. The presence of Shin Jae Ha’s character Ji Dong Hee seems unrealistic and while we understand the need for one ‘nagging presence’ in the life of the successful teacher to keep him sane, it only looks that much more superficial. The first 2 episodes introduce the audience to the overall setting of the drama, laying the foundation for a fun-filled show. That also may be due to the way the characters are portrayed in the drama. She used to be a national handball player but was handed off the responsibility of the business, her special brother and the daughter of her sister who was abandoned, after her own mother’s sudden death. Their encounter cannot be called ill-fated as it proceeds to become one of the changing points of the two leads’ lives. With her getting the shorter end of the stick and him being this charismatic, boasting celebrity teacher with a big fan following hopefully, the rest of the drama allows more insight into Nam Haeng Soon’s strengths. With an incomplete education and little knowledge of the growing competition in the world outside, she finds herself at odds with the star instructor whose math classes her daughter wishes to take. [Jung Kyung Ho](https://www.pinkvilla.com/topic/jung-kyung-ho) embodies Choi Chi Yeol, the star private academy math professor. [Jeon Do Yeon](https://www.pinkvilla.com/topic/jeon-do-yeon) plays Nam Haeng Soon, a former national handball player who is now the owner of a banchan (Korean side dish) shop.

Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Episode 4 will air at the same time the next day, January 22. Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Episode 3 will be released on January 21, 2023. Apart from its release on Netflix, viewers in South Korea can watch the episode by tuning in to tvN every Saturday and Sunday at 21:00 (KST). This tense, subtle rivalry will no doubt bloom into a more blatant one soon enough, and it’ll be exciting to watch how it pans out for both parties. Going forward, it’ll be interesting to see the wider impact of this event, particularly given things point towards Chi-yeol (Jung Kyung-ho) being the intended recipient of the threat. It was a shocking scene, particularly given things have mostly been light-hearted in the drama, but also because it points to the hooded figure dotted throughout the second chapter having more sinister intentions.

While Jae-woo is perplexed by the sight of Chi-yeol on a bus stop advertisement, knowing he has seen the tutor before, the instructor himself is ordering his team to re-print his textbooks, furious over the careless editing in them. As a beaming Hae-e thanks her aunt for getting her enrolled in Chi-yeol’s classes, Su-a is frustrated by the developments. The lawyer is in a strange mood too, embracing her son, telling him he is all she has. Following on from a look at how a young Hae-e kickstarted the unique relationship with her aunt, which saw her refer to her as “mother,” we return to the present. Following this, Chi-yeol backs away from a visit to ‘Nation’s Best Banchan,’ concerned over his sighting of the person he only recently came to blows with over a cracked mobile phone. Additionally, Haeng-seon is shown to have quit the handball team when disallowed the chance to check up on her ill niece, with her decision aided by the coach’s attitude in how he brings up the fact he already excused the player when her mother died.

Crash Course in Romance Season 1 Review - a breezy watch with ... (Ready Steady Cut)

We review the Netflix K-Drama series Crash Course in Romance season 1, which contains minor spoilers and plot points.

Complete with a colorful, warm visual palette that really makes the city feel welcoming to viewers, Crash Course in Romance mightn’t wish to avoid the usual rom-com tropes entirely, but it does do a more than serviceable job of providing its audience something substantial to sink their teeth into. Also strong are [ Lee Chai-min](https://readysteadycut.com/person/Lee-Chai-min/) and [Roh Yoon-seo](https://readysteadycut.com/person/Roh-Yoon-seo/), who each play their parts as likable students Sun-jae and Hae-e with a youthful flair, and Shin Jae-ha, who paints the role of Chi-yeol’s assistant with marked compassion. Breezy, uncluttered, and seamlessly charming, it’s a series laced with pleasantness, even though some of the storylines favor a more serious direction. [Jeon Do-yeon](https://readysteadycut.com/person/Jeon-Do-yeon/) is excellent as Haeng-seon, giving real charisma to the selfless side dish shop owner, who would do anything for the people around her without hesitation. Crucially, the show revolves around the life of two characters. Multiple shows belonging to this genre are released every year, with the occasional mixed bag of results doing little to encourage a switch-up in formula.
