While the security vulnerabilities fixed in iOS 16.2 are large in number and serious, none have been used in real-life attacks yet. Update to iOS 16.2 as soon as you can

Apple has released iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and watchOS 9.2 to all eligible devices, with new apps and plenty of new features.

You can also use four apps on your iPad and up to four on an external display at the same time, so a total of up to eight apps at the same time for the ultimate Stage Manager multitasking setup. [iPhone 14 Pro](https://www.phonearena.com/reviews/iPhone-14-Pro-review_id5516)or an [iPhone 14 Pro Max](https://www.phonearena.com/reviews/iphone-14-pro-max-review_id5518), you will be able to toggle the wallpaper and notifications when your Always On Display is active. When you embark on an outdoor running workout to a nearby running rack, your Apple Watch can now detect that and will automatically start a workout. After you update to iOS 16.2, your new iPhone will no longer attempt to call emergency services while you're enjoying a roller coaster ride or skiing down the slopes. You can also compete against your previous workouts on a specific route thanks to Race Route. The underlying architecture of the app is upgraded so that it is compliant with the Matter smart home standard. Apple's Home hub app is getting a rather big revamp with the arrival of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2. Advanced Data Protection is an opt-in feature with a rather serious caveat: if you somehow lose the encryption key (password) to your encrypted iCloud data, Apple wouldn't be able to restore your information. [cloud breach](https://www.phonearena.com/news/Apples-iCloud-allegedly-breached-in-celebrity-photo-theft_id60017), which has definitely happened to Apple's iCloud in the past. Don't worry, people in your contacts list will be able to send you AirDrops without anything required on your part. While the feature won't work with any song on Apple Music, there are plenty that support the new feature, and Apple has actually made a few dozen playlists with songs that are perfect for a karaoke get-together. The app allows multiple users to collaborate on the same document in real time with updates synced instantaneously, making this one a killer creative space app that would do wonders for teams during brainstorming session.

End-to-end encryption for all your iCloud stuff · Free karaoke with Apple Music Sing · There's a whole new Home foundation · There's more cool stuff for your lock ...

If you have an iPhone 14 Pro, you’re getting a huge change to the always-on display: the option to hide the wallpaper and/or notifications. Open the TV app, then tap the Watch Now tab, scroll down to the Sports row, then tap Live Sports. You may need to kick off the update yourself–and it’s a good idea to make sure everyone in your home and all your devices such as HomePods and Apple TVs are updated first. For starters, all your Apple devices need to be updated to the latest OS (iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS 13.1). Not every song with lyrics supports Apple Music Sing, but a lot of them do, and the number will grow over time. [Apple Music Sing](https://www.macworld.com/article/1427242/apple-music-sing.html), and all you have to do is open the song lyrics on any song, just as you used to, and look for a little microphone icon. [new security features in iOS 16.2](https://www.macworld.com/article/1428568/imessage-security-key-advanced-data-protection-icloud.html), with the most important being is the ability to end-to-end encrypt almost all your iCloud data. In fact, the only cloud data that is not encrypted with your own keys will be iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. If a government agency wants that data from Apple, it could decrypt it and give it to them. Advanced Data Protection adds end-to-end encryption (your keys on your devices only) to iCloud backups, Photos, Notes, Reminders, Voice Memos, Safari Bookmarks, and more. [iOS 16.2](https://www.macworld.com/article/1361626/ios-16-2-features-release-data-protection-apple-music-sing.html) is more than the usual mid-December update, bringing a slew of new features, bug fixes, and security updates. Apple HomeKit users can upgrade the underlying architecture of their Apple Home in iOS 16.2, but it hasn't been a smooth transition for some.

Apple presented the HomeKit upgrade as a finished product available to users in iOS 16.2. Once the updates are complete, Apple enables users to upgrade their smart home architecture with a few taps. In a worst case, an entire HomeKit home would need to be rebuilt. Robles reports that many of the products that needed a reset were WeMo or Leviton brands. Apple says that it has rebuilt the underlying architecture of HomeKit in iOS 16.2, which translates to improved performance.
