Using the service, recipients expecting inbound shipments can receive delivery notifications, chat with FedEx directly and manage redirect options with the click of a button. Picture Proof of Delivery is a free delivery service option and will not require enrollment, an account or login. With consumers not always home to receive their deliveries, the no-signature-required delivery option allows for their packages to be delivered although it can come with uncertainty about whether the package has actually arrived, even with parcel tracking available. The agreement requires FedEx to inspect about 34000 drop boxes all over the country and modify them to be accessible for wheelchair users.

In March, a similar class suit was filed in Memphis by Mississippi resident Ben Weisfeld, also alleging that FedEx drop boxes are inaccessible for wheelchair users and customers with disabilities due to excessive reach and force requirements. The terms of the preliminary settlement, agreed to in September, include FedEx paying $900,000 in attorneys’ fees and $20,000 to Kouri for a release of his individual claims. “We are committed to providing proper access to drop boxes for our customers,” FedEx said in an emailed statement.
