Where does House Of The Dragon go in season two? (The A.V. Club)

Now that season one is over, let's look ahead at the coming war for the Iron Throne and what else we might see in the next season of House Of The Dragon.

[an interview with The Hollywood Reporter](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/house-of-the-dragon-matt-smith-daemon-targaryen-crush-1235242470/), writer and executive producer Sara Hess said the next season will explore the relationship between Rhaenyra and Daemon more fully. [a more even pace](https://deadline.com/2022/10/house-of-the-dragon-ryan-condal-promises-more-war-and-humour-matt-smith-season-two-1235152764/) in season two, one more familiar to Game Of Thrones fans. If they follow a schedule similar to this year, we could be seeing dragons taking flight again on our screens before the end of 2023. Club set up two different approaches for Game Of Thrones when it was on the air—one for [experts](https://www.avclub.com/tv/reviews/game-of-thrones-experts) and one for [newbies](https://www.avclub.com/tv/reviews/game-of-thrones-newbies). “And right now, we’re writing season two and figuring out, what is the nature of his relationship with Rhaenyra? [a second season](https://www.avclub.com/hbo-renews-house-of-the-dragon-for-season-2-1849461556) was in store since August, although it was always a pretty safe bet that HBO wasn’t going to spend all this money capitalizing on the popularity of Game Of Thrones only call it quits after to air one season. As for the cast, we obviously won’t be seeing Elliot Grihault as Luke again (we’re still not over it), but the rest of the older players will be sticking around, including Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, Harry Collett as Jace, Bethany Antonia as Baela, and Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena. Although he hasn’t given an official reason for his departure, co-showrunner Ryan Condal [implied in an interview](https://www.avclub.com/house-of-the-dragon-ryan-condal-miguel-sapochnik-exit-1849580206) that he was just burnt out on the franchise. The kingsguard has been split as well, with three going to Rhaenyra and three sticking with Aegon II. Meanwhile, the Blacks still have a legitimate claim to the throne, plus a Velaryon fleet of ships, at least six dragons left (minus poor Arrax), and one pissed off queen. Rhaenyra’s restraint has hit its limit, and Daemon isn’t the forgiving type. Episodes nine and ten this season presented the two opposite sides as they marshaled their supporters.

'House of the Dragon' finale: Queen Rhaenyra's fury over the ... (USA TODAY)

HBO's "House of the Dragon" ended its first season with a finale that featured a world-changing death by dragon.

But the final shot of the season finale shows her turning to the camera, her face a study of building fury. The underachieving, but lovable Prince Lucerys "Luke" Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) is sent to appeal to the nearby Lord Borros, which looks to be an achievable goal. During a tense meeting with rival Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) on the causeway of Dragonstone, Rhaenyra flies in with a power statement on her dragon Syrax. Queen Rhaenyra's work for peace comes crashing to an end after the most painful death in her life. As a kicker, Rhaenyra is warned that the Hightowers are coming for her and her children. He wants to use their dragon advantage to lay siege to the Greens faction supporting the new king.

“The wonder of going into season two – for any show, but for this one in particular – is we have such an embarrassment of riches in terms of the great cast that we put together,” he said. These are one of the things that you learn in the making of a show – you take that knowledge into account when making season two and say, “How can we do better?” The feedback was certainly heard,” the showrunner said. And we want the show to be a great viewing experience for everybody." First, the elephant in the room, when quizzed about the death of Lucerys, Condal remarks that “Aemond is definitely not blameless” but that the young prince had been bullied as a kid. I intend to put all those lessons into use on season 2.” The showrunner expanded on the excitement of going into a new season, its peak being the cast of the show. So, it will be difficult for the production to film and VFX another season by the end of 2023, meaning that a 2024 return could be more likely. Condal explained that the writers will seek to introduce “natural pathways into moments of levity” in the drama. There’s a million and one questions circulating after that finale so read on for what we know about House Of The Dragon season two so far. Condal also surprisingly hinted at the possibility of some lighthearted moments in the new series too. It’s a methodical approach, but in the final scenes, Daemon delivers the tragic news of her son’s death and with it, we just know that House Of The Dragon series two is going to be grittier and bloodier than this premiere season. Speaking to The Times, But what we do know is that Lucerys’ death will likely spark a war-waging fire in Rhaenyra and that she and Daemon will exact bloody revenge upon King’s Landing and the Hightowers. As I do so, though, I am deeply comforted to know that Alan [Taylor] will be joining the series. “He’s someone I’ve known and respected for a long time, and I believe this precious series could not be in safer hands. It’s based on The Dying Of The Dragons, a novella found in George RR Martin’s 2018 work Fire & Blood. “But you have to understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into war. We knew it was coming but in the finale’s closing moments we see a darker new side to Princess Rhaenyra that will carry us into the now-confirmed second season.

10 Questions House of the Dragon Season 2 Needs to Answer (TIME)

The Dance of Dragons has begun. Rhaenyra Targaryen, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, briefly considered bending the knee to her half-brother King Aegon ...

Of all the families mentioned in the episode, we have a special place in our hearts for the Starks. House of the Dragon has been playing fast and loose with the children’s ages throughout the series, and at this point it’s unclear who is and isn’t considered a grown-up ready to fight. Perhaps he interprets Viserys keeping the secret of the dream from him as a signal that Viserys never trusted Daemon or considered Daemon a possible heir to the throne. In the Season 1 finale, he tells Rhaenyra that Team Black has more dragons than Team Green. He tells her that Aegon the Conquerer subjugated the people of Westeros in part because he had a dream a Targaryen would need to sit on the Iron Throne when a great winter (i.e. And if her children continue to die, is Rhaenyra doomed to the same fate that Daenerys suffered in [Game of Thrones?](https://time.com/6206772/house-of-the-dragon-connects-game-of-thrones/) But in the final episode, we see a fissure between the Queen and her partner. In both cases, the dream serves largely as a plot device to confuse Alicent into believing her son ought to be crowned king and angering Daemon who never learned the secret prophesy from his brother. The Season 1 finale was named “The Black Queen,” and it seems that Rhaenyra is finally ready to take on that title. Early in the season, Viserys warned Rhaenyra that “the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. Again, this seems largely to be choice on the part of the writers to complicate the character rather than a plot-driven decision. But the death of Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys at the hands of Aegon’s brother Aemond—mistake or not—enraged Rhaenyra and kicked off a civil war that will play out over several seasons.

'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Will Begin Filming in Early 2023 (Collider.com)

House of the Dragon co-creator and executive producer, Ryan Condal, has revealed Season 2 will begin filming early next year.

All episodes of Season 1 of House of the Dragon are now streaming on HBO Max. " He also noted that "...those will continue to be the home bases for the show." Whether a 2023 release date is possible is still not known; however, viewers can rest assured that the production team is hard at work on creating the second season. However, a war is, in fact, on the horizon for Westeros. Of the second season's expanding world Condal noted that "[j]ust as the original Game of Thrones grew in scope and expanse as it went, so, too, will ours." However, he also noted that there will remain several key settings that will ground the series, noting that the production has "...lived a good bit in three different worlds through this show: King’s Landing, Dragonstone and Driftmark.

Season 1 of House of the Dragon served mostly as an introduction to this by featuring the struggles that both King Jaehaerys I (Michael Carter) and Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) faced to choose their heirs within the previous chapter of Fire and Blood titled "Heirs of the Dragon - A Question of Succession." The war is going to move from the shoring up of alliances to a ruthless bloodbath, and no one will come out of it unscathed. If Season 1 did the work of introducing audiences to the world, the characters, and the issues that they face then that should allow Season 2 to tell a far more detailed and in-depth story. So what can we look forward to seeing in House of the Dragon Season 2?
