But even as I say it, I'm like, Carlos Sainz has been driving so strong, he's amazing, Lando is starting to peak at the right time, so it's hard to say. He'll be like, ‘I was in Monaco in 1999 and this happened’, and having that experience of a guy knowing how hard it was and doing it at the highest level and succeeding, it's really, really cool. Max [Verstappen] looks really unbeatable, we all see it week to week, he just finds a way to drive faster, drive smarter, just make all the right moves. ESPN's taking a greater interest in it as well, and now I think that Amazon getting involved, I think it's going to change the game. I know Danny [Ricciardo] a little bit and I love him but I still have so much respect for him and what he does. I have more and more friends who say, "Don't tell me what happened because I'm recording the race and I want to watch it later." There's so much fun to be had in Formula 1, it's such a great thing, so I think we're trying to bring that kind of energy. So they heard Danny Ricciardo on Smartless, then subsequent to that, when Amp decided that they wanted to get into this space in F1, obviously they got Mika Hakkinen, who's a two-time champ and a legend, then they got other sports people like Katie Osborne and Michelle Beadle, who can speak to sports and know how to drive sports commentary, and The Kid Mero. And I'm learning on the job and hopefully people listening are kind of learning with me. Like a lot of people, Formula 1 was something that kind of existed out there and that I would sort of not really pay attention to. It was so immediate that I found myself looking at, not just the races, but I've got to watch qualis, I've got to see all of it, because you get into the drama of it all. What you might not associate with Will Arnett is a love of Formula 1.

US Grand Prix: F1 – live (The Guardian)

With Carlos Sainz on pole ahead of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, this promises to be a fierce contest. Who will win? Join Beau Dure to find out.

“It’s tremendously disappointing for a fellow competitor to accuse you of cheating. In Austin for this weekend’s today’s US Grand Prix Red Bull’s breach overshadowed events on the track. For those who love tires (or, as it’s spelled in proper English, “tires”), all the top drivers are on mediums. [Formula One](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/formulaone) today, it seems appropriate to note the passing of Dietrich Mateschitz, the builder of the Red Bull empire of energy drinks and sports. He’ll have a full-time gig next year as long as he gets enough points toward his “Super Licence.” (Funny – in most US states, getting points on your license is a bad thing.) So back on track, so to speak – we’re getting late in the season now, so we should all be captivated by this thrilling title race between Max Verstappen and …

MV: Yeah, it was just a rotary change which then influenced a bit the throttle pickup which can happen so we just went back to the other setting and it was a bit better. I stayed a little bit on the edge of the city, overlooking the city every day, and it's definitely a place I think I could live. But I'm confident we can do that because I know how hard we are working and I'm confident that we are working in the right direction. I will do everything for it to not happen and we are working as a team for it to not happen obviously. And there's a challenge of keeping the DNA of the sport, adding the show, and I think this has been done extremely well. You know if Charles was there, if Pérez was there, for example, it would have been a different race, because they would have been ahead of us, we would have been on the third row. And also, can you tell us a little bit about the brake drama that was going on prior to the start of the race? And I think there's a culture in the US also to make the sport a show. I think in the first stint he was controlling the pace and it was very difficult to hold on to him. He was so instrumental and, of course, it will continue, but we really wanted to have a good result today and yeah, this is of course amazing. But yeah, we need to keep working in order to challenge them a bit more towards the end of the races. Q: Yeah, we're seeing behind on the screen the battles that you had, first of all with Charles and the Ferrari, and then of course, Lewis here on the brakes.

An emotional weekend for Red Bull culminated in them securing the championship double. Vettel led the 3,500th lap of his F1 career today and passed the Haas of Kevin Magnussen on the final lap to finish eighth. Finishing P2, Hamilton maintained his record of finishing in the top four at every F1 race held in Austin. Today was Leclerc’s fifth consecutive podium finish, the longest streak of his F1 career. Verstappen’s victory for the team was his 13th of the season, which ties the record set by Michael Schumacher in 2004 and Sebastian Vettel in 2013. It was Verstappen’s 33rd race win, which matches his regular race number, and coincidentally matches the F1 win total of all American drivers combined.

Pitt was on location in part to work on his upcoming Formula 1 film, which will be directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski and co-produced by Lewis Hamilton. “We’ve got a bit to look at to understand the pace,” his engineer, Tom Stallard, said in downcast tones over team radio on the cool-down lap. “The stewards determine that the driver of Car 18 was predominantly to blame.” Alonso’s Alpine was launched into the air, thudding heavily back to earth and sliding into the barriers. He second pit stop dropped him to the back of the back, and despite spending most of that final stint in clear air, his pace was woeful. Could it win a race this season? “It was clear to us that the driver of Car 18 made a late move in reacting to the overtaking attempt by the driver of Car 14 by moving to the left,” said the ruling. It was a reminder of what Formula 1 is set to lose once Vettel hangs up the helmet at the end of the season — and, perhaps more to the point, how good he can be when the car and the team is working for him, which hasn’t always been the case dating back even to his seasons at Ferrari. Incredibly it was able to continue to pit lane, and in what the Spaniard is sure to add to his burgeoning portfolio of best-ever drives, he brought it home in seventh place. Alonso was closing in fast on Stroll down the back straight and at the final moment pulled out of his slipstream to make the pass on the run to turn 11. And it should be remembered that Hamilton was only in contention to begin with because of that pit stop mistake, because the sister Red Bull Racing and Ferrari cars started in penalised grid positions and because Carlos Sainz was punted out of the race by his Mercedes teammate. A Red Bull-backed driver dominating the race in a Red Bull-owned team — having cut his teeth, of course, in the Red Bull-owned junior team — was a reminder of just how influential Mateschitz had been in Formula 1 across the last two decades.

Fernando Alonso has dropped from P7 to P15 in the classification for the 2022 United States Grand Prix, following a protest against his car by rivals Haas.

Moreover, after the race, the FIA technical delegate considered the car legal. This is a responsibility of the Alpine Team.” two calls to Race Control by the Haas Team. “The FIA has the right to black and orange flag a car during the race if they consider it unsafe and, on this occasion, they assessed the car and decided not to action the flag. The stewards also noted that Haas “had been given the black and orange flag on three occasions this year for situations involving their car being in an unsafe condition” – the most recent of those occasions coming at the Singapore Grand Prix.
