She’s also a great friend and “evolving partner”, as well as a doting “mother” to her furbaby Toastie. [Instagram post](https://www.instagram.com/p/CjawhaNrGyT/) on Friday (7 Oct), Tan said her daughter Shi-An, 24, “doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do”. Instead of being worried or disappointed, though, Tan is proud of her — in fact, she encourages her to be this way.

Tan also adds that her only child “actively pursues and discovers the depths and validity of her passions”, something that not many of us can claim to even find the time for today. Instead, Tan directs her attention to how Shi-An chooses to chart her own course in “part-time gigs in a variety of fields to allow her a lifestyle she wants for herself”. The actress even added that “it is exactly the sort of state I encourage her to be in at the moment”.
