Tesla AI Day: Here's what to expect (CNN)

The six-hour event will include updates on Tesla (TSLA)'s work in artificial intelligence, “Full Self-Driving,” its supercomputer “Dojo” and maybe a humanoid ...

[ “unbreakable” windows, that promptly broke](https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/25/cars/elon-musk-tesla-cybertruck-window-glass-broke) — and can’t even be bought years later. [claimed before](https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2021/04/27/tesla-tsla-q1-2021-earnings-call-transcript/) that in the long run people will think of Tesla as an AI company, rather than a car company or energy company. Humanoid robots have long fascinated the public and earned a place in pop culture as powerful but sometimes dangerous. But creating a humanoid robot that rivals a human’s abilities has proved incredibly difficult for robotics experts. The six-hour event will include updates on Tesla [(TSLA)](https://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=TSLA&source=story_quote_link)’s work in artificial intelligence, “Full Self-Driving,” its supercomputer “Dojo” and maybe a humanoid robot, according to invitations posted online by Tesla [(TSLA)](https://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=TSLA&source=story_quote_link) supporters. It’s unclear if a prototype will be revealed Friday, but Musk tweeted Thursday that the event would include “cool hardware demos.” Artificial intelligence has seen major advances yet trails the general abilities of a human toddler. The Japanese company shut down development of Asimo in 2018. AI powers “Full Self-Driving,” but the system has faced criticism and backlash as it still requires driver intervention to prevent collisions and Musk’s deadlines for its capabilities slip year after year. [He has said ](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1483728729545363457?lang=en)that Tesla AI may play a role in computers matching general human abilities, a huge milestone many experts say is [decades away](https://research.aimultiple.com/artificial-general-intelligence-singularity-timing/) and perhaps [unattainable](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-020-0494-4). [(TSLA)](https://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=TSLA&source=story_quote_link) will hold its second annual AI Day in Palo Alto, California, Friday evening. Tesla’s previous AI Day included detailed technical explanations of the company’s work in a bid to attract leading engineers.

Tesla AI Day 2022: livestream link posted online, Optimus teaser ... (Teslarati)

Tesla AI Day is only hours away! The company tweeted a teaser of Optimus recently, building up anticipation for this year's AI Day.

The strength and flexibility of human hands helps us accomplish various tasks. Compared to the AI Day 2022 teaser poster, the hands featured in the video seem more refined. The robot’s hands in the video appear to have at least four individual fingers, whereas the one in the teaser poster looks like it only has three fingers. The Optimus hands in the teaser poster appear to be made of all metal. The Texas-based company tweeted a teaser of the Optimus Bot recently, building up anticipation for this year’s AI Day. The brief video Tesla posted on Twitter shows Optimus making a heart sign with its hands.

Robotaxis: Musk said at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting held in early August the company’s robotaxi service will be a combination of Uber Technologies Inc. Optimus To Show Up: Tesla is widely expected to unveil a prototype of its humanoid robot at the event. The stock is coming into the 2022 AI Day with a 24% loss for the year-to-date period due to the market-wide weakness on the back of economic and geopolitical worries. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Tesla bot, aka Optimus, which Musk said would come in handy for dangerous and repetitive tasks. Dojo Update: Tesla announced at the 2021 AI Day that its Dojo supercomputer will be powered by its in-house D1 chips. Martin Viecha, Tesla’s Senior Director, Investor Relations, reportedly said at an invite-only Goldman Sachs Tech conference that “supervised FSD” will likely drop in by the end of 2022. Incremental updates on Dojo could be expected at the event. Musk had said earlier this year that FSD could be released for qualified vehicles by the end of 2022. Why It's Important: Tesla’s stock rose about 1% in the session after the 2021 AI Day and saw a nice run-up until early November, which is not solely attributable to the event. What Happened: The AI Day 2022 is due to be held in Palo Alto, California, on Friday. In May, when Musk announced the original schedule, he Including about 45 minutes of pre-event streaming, the event went on for about three hours.

Tesla expected to show humanoid robot Optimus demo on Friday ... (CNBC)

Investors are expecting a real tech demonstration of the robot, along with updates on Tesla's self-driving technology.

Tesla didn't have a hardware prototype to show last year and made the 2021 announcement with an actor dressed in a Tesla Bot body suit dancing on stage. AI Day precedes Tesla's third-quarter vehicle production and deliveries report which is expected within days. The safety concern should be tantamount in a factory, Kernbaum suggests. However, Kernbaum notes, when it comes to creating a robot that can make a difference in an car assembly plant, there's really no need for Tesla to develop a bi-pedal robot. As Bernstein senior research analyst Toni Sacconaghi wrote in a September 30 note ahead of AI Day 2022, In 2018 Tesla "had mistakenly tried to hyper-automate its final assembly (i.e. He said, "Hands are like the ultimate multi-tool. Musk has been promising a truly self-driving Tesla since 2016 when he said a coast-to-coast demo would happen by the end of 2017. Robotic legs require a lot of power, for one thing, which would put strain on any battery Tesla develops for its robotics. Dexterity and in-hand object manipulation are the grand 10-year challenges that will have an obvious impact on all precision manufacturing and on everything really." The result was that Musk soon admitted "excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake," and "humans are underrated." So what happens if you don't actually have a labor shortage? - Tesla didn't have a hardware prototype to show last year and made the 2021 announcement with an actor dressed in a Tesla Bot body suit dancing on stage.

Tesla AI Day 2022: How to watch, and our top 5 predictions (ZDNet)

Today, Tesla AI Day is sure to feature news about electric vehicles, but with Tesla, there are always other innovative projects underway.

For this reason alone, we could expect the much-anticipated Cybertruck to be a star of the Tesla AI Day. Musk also said that the new location could possibly not be the US, with sites in Canada and Mexico under consideration as well. For months, there have been rumors about where the next Tesla factory will be opened. Despite the increased power output, the design of the Supercharger V4 will remain basically the same. Over two years later, we are still waiting for self-driving Teslas to be released to the public, much less a self-driving taxi. Therefore, this is further confirmation that Tesla will talk about Optimus at the event to fill the talent void. This AI Day, we can expect updates on the development of the Dojo program. A leaked [ticket to the event](https://twitter.com/ByeonChansoo/status/1574861503206940672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1574861503206940672%7Ctwgr%5Efa4f83f76ee6fd12a7d8a6ee18ae98a271ccc636%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.teslarati.com%2Ftesla-ai-team-lead-teaser-ai-day-2022%2F) shows that Tesla is hosting the event at one of its locations in Palo Alto, Calif. The Tesla Cybertruck is also not a brand-new concept -- it was originally introduced in 2019. After all the buzz that Optimus created last year, it can be expected that the humanoid robot will be at the forefront of this year's event. Musk has admitted himself that a major purpose of Tesla AI Day is recruiting. Musk unofficially confirmed that Optimus would be a topic of discussion at this year's event by switching the event date from Aug.

Tesla AI Day News Roundup [Updating] (Teslarati)

Tesla AI Day has officially kicked off. Tesla is expected to reveal its Optimus prototype during the event.

It will be the first Exapod of 7 that Tesla plans to build in Palo Alto. The company also explained occupancy and the role it plays with 3D mapping and providing a birds-eye-view for the car. Tesla’s goal with Dojo is to build a single accelerator. Tesla has developed a new auto-labeling machine to help with 3D labeling. The company also uses that same technology it uses for its cars to simulate Optimus’ movements and reactions to external collisions. Tesla may update a simulated world quickly and as updated develop. To see “under the hood”–so to speak–somewhat explains the lane issues FSD testers experience on the road. Tesla also talked a bit about simulation. However, it is still a Tesla event, so everyone expects some product surprises and updates, specifically about the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, Dojo, and Full Self-Driving. The Tesla bot’s vision is very similar Autopilot. The company has been closely studying the structure of the human body while making the humanoid robot’s overall design. “The robot can actually do a lot more than we showed you.

Elon Musk unveils humanoid 'Optimus' robot at Tesla's AI Day (The Guardian)

The billionaire has said a robot business will be worth more than its cars, hoping to expand beyond self-driving vehicles that have not yet become a reality ...

A prototype of the robot walked on stage and waved to the seated audience. But building human-like, versatile hands that can manipulate different objects is extremely challenging, said Heni Ben Amor, a robotics professor at Arizona State University. “There’s so much about what people can do dexterously that’s very, very hard for robots. And that’s not going to change whether the robot is a robot arm or whether it’s in the shape of a humanoid,” Jonathan Hurst, chief technology officer at Agility Robotics, a humanoid robot firm, told Reuters. “Our goal is to make a useful humanoid robot as quickly as possible,” Musk said at the event at a Musk said currently humanoid robots were “missing a brain”, saying they don’t have the intelligence to navigate the world by themselves, and they were also very expensive and made in low volume.

Tesla Unveils Optimus, a Walking Robot That Could Arrive in 2027 (CNET)

Two prototype Tesla Bots could walk, wave their arms and grip with fingers. CEO Elon Musk says they'll eventually cost $20000 and should go on sale by 2027.

Tesla uses the same AI software to control the Tesla Bot as it uses in its cars. The full robot body has more than 200 degrees of freedom, 27 of them in the hands alone, Tesla said. The first robot walked at a slow, shuffling pace, with one foot placed just in front of the other. "The number of situations where Optimus is useful will grow exponentially," Musk said. In a video, the bots could do more, including picking up boxes and turning at the waist. The company plans to use it first in
