Brentford might have saved Manchester United from embarrassment ... (Manchester Evening News)

Erik ten Hag changed Man United's style after the Brentford debacle and the change in approach has inspired improvement.

Somewhere in a parallel universe, Brentford did not humiliate United in August and Ten Hag stubbornly persisted with his Ajax-like approach, instead of realising it was not working and leaving his side hopelessly vulnerable to average opposition. The Dutchman wanted to control proceedings against Brighton and Brentford and it backfired. [Manchester City](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/manchester-city-fc) on Sunday and they will dominate possession. There have been many special Champions League nights when that has been the case. Ten Hag has managed Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II, Utrecht and Ajax and there were doubts about whether a coach with that CV would have the tactical acumen to succeed in the Premier League. The history of United also dictates this approach should be embraced, not shamed. That pragmatic approach worked and it has been used since. It was spirited, determined and the counter-attacks had been ruthlessly efficient. It is not impossible to overturn a two-goal advantage, but the players' body language, with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was shouting and gesturing from the halfway line, suggested they had already accepted their fate. Ronaldo has played at the Bernabeu, Nou Camp, San Siro and Vicente Calderon, and he was never going to be fazed by the 17,000-capacity Brentford Community Stadium. It's just a shame that his teammates were and they continued to capitulate in spectacular fashion, conceding another two goals before half-time. The players had to take responsibility, but

Our Argentine striker know all about the unique flavours of cross-city rivalries having sampled the fierce battle for supremacy between Buenos Aires powerhouses ...

“I think it is one of the most watched and most important classics in the world. “We were talking and making some jokes about the game on Sunday, but hey, always wishing each other the best and to have a great game.” “Yes, it is true that Argentina is very known for the fanaticism of the fans, but I think that here they have also shown me a lot of affection at Manchester City, in the stadium, on the streets, in the city.

Ali Mann: Calling the derby shots (Manchester City FC)

As he prepares to commentate on CITY+/Recast on Sunday's 188th Manchester derby, Alistair Mann gave us his take on the unique flavour of the fixture - and ...

When players who you thought were part of the furniture moved on and new ones come in. I also got married on the day of a Manchester derby. I know people thought it would happen last year but again you get sense there is something really exciting happening here. I do think everything about the way City play has shown them evolving and a team who are playing an even more exciting brand of football. He had it down at 99 and I said one had been taken away by the dubious goals panel and funnily enough he ended up getting two. I’ll never forget commemorating on that Monday night game when Kompany scored the header. But they do and there has been a regeneration in lots of ways. I caught him playing for Belgium at Netherlands last weekend and although Belgium ended up losing there were some touches from Kevin which were incredible. I’ve watched United two or three times on them one was their game at home to Liverpool and they played exceptionally well. They had two managers, and one was a temporary fix. And it’s always a game that excites. As a born and bred Mancunian it’s just a special day.
