US Climate Envoy Visit Underlies Cooperation on Climate Change ... (Vietnam Briefing)

Vietnam Briefing highlights the recent visit by US Special Presidential Envoy John Kerry building on US-Vietnam cooperation on climate change.

Kerry’s visit to Vietnam may have positive implications for discussions regarding the participation of Vietnam in the IPEF. US businesses in the renewable energy sector consider Vietnam to be a budding destination and are ready to invest in the country. During US-Vietnam Energy Security Dialogue in July 2022, the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) offered a grant to Vietnam’s state-owned Kerry further reiterated even further opportunities for US businesses if Vietnam focuses on clean power and renewable energy Readers may write to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) for more support on doing business in Vietnam. Jake Levine, Chief Climate Officer at the US [International Development Finance Corporation](https://www.dfc.gov/) (DFC), stressed that DFC is willing to support Vinfast to build a domestic EV manufacturing chain in Vietnam. Third, according to Kerry, the US can be Vietnam’s trusted partner in the green energy sector through financial aid, technology transfer, and expertise in management models. Vietnam Briefing summarizes key highlights of the visit and explores the opportunities for US businesses in Vietnam. Vietnam also called for financial aid in building a synchronous electricity transmission system so that average people can afford renewable energy. As a result, renewable energy in Vietnam is being utilized far below capacity, at only four percent when it can satisfy up to 25 percent of the national demand. In fact, many businesses in Vietnam still hesitate to penetrate into the green energy market due to limited access to capital sources and high credit rates. As such, Kerry advised the Vietnamese government to leave out coal in the country’s long-term strategy if Vietnam wants to achieve net zero emission status.

“The Ben Tre Project has the potential to play a pioneering role in Vietnam’s green energy future and will contribute to the realization of the Vietnamese government’s ambitions to install 7 GW of offshore wind before 2030″, said Bernard Casey, Chief Operating Officer for Mainstream in the APAC region. The LiDAR was placed on a fixed platform and deployed in Vietnam’s East Sea, 40 kilometres from the coast of Ben Tre Province at water depths of 25 metres, making it the furthest wind measurement platform from shore in Vietnam, Mainstream said.

The authorities are also expected to implement new rules that would require social media platforms to immediately take down content deemed to harm national security, and to remove illegal content within 24 hours, sources familiar with the matter said. Two sources with direct knowledge told Reuters that more rules on internet and social media platforms would be introduced around the fourth quarter of 2022 to early 2023. Government officials have been holding confidential meetings with popular social media and internet firms to brief them on which types of accounts will be allowed to post news content under the new rules, according to the sources. The rules, expected to be announced by the year-end and with details yet to be hammered out, would establish a legal basis for controlling news dissemination on platforms like Facebook and YouTube while placing a significant moderation burden on platform providers, two of the sources added.

House of the year, Vietnam: VP Bank (Risk.net)

As a result, the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio at the bank got better, falling from 2.18% in 2019 to 1.51% at the end of 2021. You do not want to refer clients to the Credit Bureau so that they are forever unable to get a good credit history. This is not what you want to do with the client,” Kolechko says. This allowed the bank to take a decision on a car loan within 30 seconds, at a time when many of its competitors were taking a day or longer to do so. Sales increased and we became the bank of first choice Due to the fact that Vietnam’s laws on these two elements are not yet set in stone, the bank had to focus on making the platform highly customisable, so it can be tweaked as required. Sales increased and we became the bank of first choice,” says Kolechko. The Vietnamese house rejects around 30% of loan applications using this system, which is perhaps a bit higher than might really be necessary but reflects the conservatism within the bank. “If we reject an application, the dealer will then refer the client to another bank. “The idea is to achieve high growth while maintaining stability – that is how, in the long run, we will be successful.” As a result of this leap into pole position, the overall quality of VP Bank’s loan portfolio improved dramatically. But that wasn’t good enough for the bank’s chief risk officer Dmytro Kolechko: he wanted the bank to be number one.

Readers may write to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) for more support on doing business in Vietnam. These tensions have pushed international businesses to reconsider their position in China amid the ever-present threat of sanctions and government surveillance. Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares said his company was implementing an “asset-light” strategy in China, highlighting concerns that rising political tensions between China and the rest of the world would lead to economic sanctions. By implementing these elements, the VBII’s creators claim that Vietnamese businesses can more easily comply with the standards expected of them by international partners and stakeholders. The index was constructed in the belief that building integrity processes in a company starts with top-level commitment. It will do this, he contended, by creating data and information-based trust which, in turn, will serve to attract more investment and enhance the progression of Vietnamese enterprise. Winsley also highlighted the UK’s commitment to helping Vietnam realize its objectives in business and meeting international expectations around climate change, education, and health. The index, introduced by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), is designed for enterprises of all sizes, forms of ownership, sectors, and structures, and measures the integrity and conduct of Vietnamese business. The VBII project aims to enhance accountability and integrity within business practices at all levels.
