If you want to post a public comment, you can do that at the bottom of the page. It has the biggest fleets, the biggest pier and the biggest fish market. Vidthayanon also called for regulations barring the purchase and processing of undersized seafood, and for truthful labeling of seafood products as necessary steps to restoring Thai fish stocks. Sukcharoenkana said Thailand’s commercial fleet is shriveling as a result of the new measures and “discrimination” against the commercial sector. They docked their boats in front of Parliament and entered the building. He was shouting, a habit he later explained came from a career spent giving orders to his crew over the din of boat engines. “We have been forced to moor and stop fishing,” Mongkol Sukcharoenkana, president of the National Fisheries Association of Thailand, which represents commercial fishing interests, told Mongabay. And while the government is continuing to talk about downsizing the commercial fishing fleet, focusing on trawlers, it appears the 8,024 vessels in question have been out of commission since 2015. The downsizing to around 8,000 is on the right track,” he said. Ocean Conference in Lisbon](https://news.mongabay.com/2022/07/u-n-ocean-conference-ends-with-promises-is-a-sea-change-coming/), Suwannarak presented Thailand’s commitment to the international community, announcing a permanent ban on new registrations for bottom trawlers and a $30 million buyout scheme for 1,838 of the docked vessels deemed only to have violated registration requirements, including 541 bottom trawlers. The government also announced the arrest of close to 200 unregistered fishing vessels deemed stateless and accused of violating international fishing regulations in Thai waters. In July, the Thai government announced a ban on new registrations for trawlers coupled with a $30 million buyout program for them and other fishing vessels.

Things tourists should know about visiting temples in Thailand (INSIDER)

At temples like Wat Arun and Wat Rong Khun, tourists should avoid stepping on thresholds and wearing revealing clothing.

Puacksumran told me locals believe that kau chim allows them to look into the future and receive answers to burning questions. Many tourists especially enjoy visiting the stunning riverside temple [Wat Arun](http://www.watarun.net/) in Bangkok and the pale white temple [Wat Rong Khun](https://www.remotelands.com/travelogues/the-short-curious-history-of-the-white-temple-of-chiang-rai/) in the northern province of Chiang Rai. She also instructed me to make a wish before placing the sticks in the burner — at Wat Kalayanamit, I had to repeat this several times. The numbered card usually has a revelation that's written in English and Thai. When visiting major temples, the general rule of thumb is to cover one's legs and shoulders in order to avoid offending locals. In addition to flowers and candles, incense sticks are also used as offerings. [One editor from The Bangkok Post wrote in a 2018 article](https://www.bangkokpost.com/opinion/opinion/1553006/keep-ringing-the-bells-but-not-too-loudly) that "Thais are very sensitive to noise" — so as a tourist, it's best to err on the side of caution and to be considerate when ringing the bell. Toyota's Thailand unit in a written statement said it was paying the lower tax rate for imported Prius parts based on JTEPA, but it respected the ruling and would comply. The court was handling an appeal against a 2019 ruling that the company must pay duties on some parts imported from Japan, which were for its Prius gas-electric hybrid model assembled in Thailand between 2010 and 2012. BANGKOK: Thailand Supreme Court on Thursday (Sep 15) upheld a lower court ruling that the local unit of Toyota Motor owed the government 10 billion baht (US$272.11 million) in extra taxes for importing components not subject to a reduced tariff.

Thailand's top court rules Toyota unit must pay $272m in import duties (The Financial Express BD)

Thailand Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a lower court ruling that the local unit of Toyota Motor Corp owed the government 10 billion baht ($272.11 millio.

The additional tax was owed on more than 20,000 Prius vehicles assembled at Toyota's Gateway factory between 2010 - 2012, according to earlier media reports. The court agreed with the previous decision that the imported items should be treated as complete knock-down kits, with an 80% tariff rate, instead of as auto parts, meaning they were not eligible for a reduced rate of 30 per cent under a Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA). Toyota's Thailand unit in a written statement said it was paying the lower tax rate for imported Prius parts based on JTEPA, but it respected the ruling and would comply.
