Geylang International sent its condolences to Mr Lim's family in a Facebook post: "Geylang International stands with the Football Association of Singapore and wider Singapore football family in mourning the loss of its president Mr Lim Kia Tong." In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mr Tong said Mr Lim "was utterly devoted to football, consumed with doing his best to lift Singapore football", adding that he was also a respected figure at FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). "Mr Lim had served as the first elected FAS president since 2017 and was a dedicated servant of the sport he loved."

Mr Tong, who was also a lawyer before being appointed a minister, hailed Lim's contributions to the legal fraternity, calling him "a tenacious litigator" who "always fought his cases with an uncommon compassion and with a lot more heart than many would know". He added: "Kia Tong’s job in football was a difficult one, but he handled it with grace and poise. "The football fraternity as well as those at the Bar will miss him greatly. My heart sank, and, for a while, I could scarcely believe the messages I was seeing. I will continue to try to contribute to local football to repay what Kia Tong has done for me." By his admission, Lim remained a relatively low-profile figure until the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA are deeply saddened to find of the passing of Lim Kia Tong, President of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and a dear friend of all at FIFA.

Mr Lim was a trusted leader in the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and his devotion to developing football in his beloved Singapore was evident to me when I last visited him last year. Lim was a great man and a huge supporter of football in south-east Asia. Mr Lim was a devoted servant to our sport in Singapore and across the wider south-east Asia region.
