And it seems the environment is very conducive to set a new box office benchmark for a Hindi film in the country. The advance booking for the afternoon and evening shows is okay. And the good news is that Brahmāstra has generated solid interest among the movie-going audience in the Telugu states. What matters is whether or not the film has caught the interest of the audience,” added Deepak. SS Rajamouli is distributing Brahmastra in the south Indian states. It’s very comforting news to the embattled Hindi film industry.

The mega-budget movie, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar.
RECOMMENDED Brahmastra is being marketed as a pan-India film. As per analysts, Nagarjuna’s presence and Rajamouli’s VFX may draw the viewers in the Telugu belt (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana). The movie will see Kapoor as Shiva, Bhat as Isha, Bachchan as Guruji, and Roy as the antagonist. Brahmastra will collect Rs 10 crore + in advance sale only. Factors, like mass circuits, and spot bookings can also play a crucial role on Day 1, which can lead to higher earnings. The lifetime collections could touch something between Rs 130 and Rs 200 crore if the movie manages to have a few successful weeks, analysts said. The craze is building up among fans who are eagerly waiting for the movie. The movie also stars actor Shah Rukh Khan, who will be seen as Vanarastra. It is to be noted that this year the only Bollywood movie that earned a double-digit figure on Day 1 was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The film is based on stories from Indian mythology and history and will be released in four other languages – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The mega-budget movie, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The Indian film, Brahmastra: Part 1 - Shiva, in theaters Friday, is a superhero origin story by way of Bollywood.
Every love story has the trope of instant deep passion, but Shiva and Isha's is a tad more believable as a component of epic myth. Shiva's fire powers create arresting shapes in the sky and form weapons. Shiva has visions of the killers hunting other Astra guardians, and he's had a supernatural relationship with fire his whole life. The Astra battles are as epic as any confrontation between Marvel heroes and villains, too. Shiva and Isha dance again at a children's birthday party, and the kids later join in. The action and visual effects are on par with Hollywood's Marvel movies, but it's based on Indian mythology.
'Brahmastra' has received a great advance booking response. The film has sold approx 1.5 lakh tickets and is eyeing an opening of 20-25 crore.
The review also highlighted the presence of megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna, but refrained from naming Shah Rukh Khan. They are at their most endearing when vulnerable,” a part of the review read. Film critic Courtney Howard also complimented Ranbir and Alia‘s performance, pointing out their “charm and style”.
Brahmastra movie review: You keep yearning for magic in this Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt film. Part fantasy, part mythological, part action-adventure, part desi ...
The VFX is non-stop (at one point, a troll-like army appears, and disappears), the blaring music keeps wanting to bludgeon us into submission, and we are left yearning for magic. And that truly is the problem with the film, which is meant to be the most expensive Bollywood has produced. The target is, naturally, our hero Shiva and Isha, another name for his faithful Parvati, and a small subsect of people (Brahmansh) quietly residing in the high reaches of the Himalayas, as defenders of the faith, and warriors armed with weapons with primal powers. One of the better portions involves Shiva being put through his paces by the elder Guru (Amitabh Bachchan), as he (Shiva) plays, literally, with fire, and the screen lights up. Bookended by the surprise presence of Shah Rukh Khan and the one and only [Amitabh Bachchan](https://indianexpress.com/about/amitabh-bachchan/), and a middle lifted by the affable Nagarjuna. [‘Brahmastra Part One-Shiva’,](https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/brahmastra-movie-release-review-live-updates-ranbir-kapoor-alia-bhatt-movie-box-office-collection-8138292/) Ayan Mukerji’s long-in-the-making mega tentpole which is meant to be a trilogy.
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy. Director: Ayan Mukerji. Rating: 3 stars (out of 5). The relentless action that ...
Mouni Roy, playing the arch-villainess who is out to wrest the brahmastra and wreak havoc on mankind, carries the daunting weight of the role without wilting. In the same breath, he reveals that he plans to adopt the surname of his wife. With Ranbir Kapoor anchoring the action and the screenplay steering clear of the peddling of unbridled machismo, what we have is a male protagonist who willingly cedes ground to the woman in his life. He is aided by his beloved Isha (Alia Bhatt), a woman who isn't given to playing second fiddle, and a homilies-spouting Guru (Amitabh Bachchan), who dwells in an ashram in the Himalayas where he grooms the next generation of defenders of the light. But once the exposition is out of the way, Brahmastra hurtles along towards the all-important climactic clash between Shiva and Junoon, who is guided by a shadowy evil being. That apart, the play on Shiva and Parvati - Isha is one of Durga's names - is obvious, but one character rechristens the male protagonist 'Dragon', perhaps a nod to Norse and Viking mythology with an eye on universalizing a story rooted in Bharatvarsh.

[Mouni Roy](https://www.pinkvilla.com/topic/mouni-roy) is the surprise element of the film. Overall, Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva is an immersive experience that promises entertainment. The lonely orphan finds love in Isha ( [Alia Bhatt](https://www.pinkvilla.com/topic/alia-bhatt)) and intends to live a regular life. Cameos by [Shah Rukh Khan](https://www.pinkvilla.com/topic/shah-rukh-khan), Deepika Padukone and Dimple Kapadia elevate the experience, though I wish a little more background was known about SRK and Kapadia’s characters. The credit here is as much for Ayan Mukerji, as it is for editor Prakash Kurup. Manikandan and Vikash Nowlakha manage to effortlessly showcase the world of Brahmastra through their lens. Both merged together present an engaging visual in the cinema, bringing every concept art created for the film to life. Amitabh Bachchan plays Guru and there is probably nothing that he can’t play on screen. However, this Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer should be seen for the overall impact it creates on the viewer. [Ranbir Kapoor](https://www.pinkvilla.com/entertainment/news/ranbir-kapoor-says-he-cant-take-brahmastras-advance-bookings-seriously-calls-alia-bhatt-trade-analyst-1189253)), a DJ, is aware of his powers but chooses to bury them deep within himself. What I loved the most about Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva is its engrossing screenplay.
Brahmastra review: This Ranbir-Alia movie bets big on its visual elements and the overall plot. VFX is the one thing that binds this spectacular film ...
RECOMMENDED All things and flaws considered, the vision for Brahmastra is astounding, and not easily seen in Indian cinema. VFX is the one thing that binds this spectacular movie together. The pace of the movie is not consistent, with some parts of the movie being very slow, while some are fast-paced. Who would reveal their deepest darkest fears to a girl they met minutes ago? The dialogues add nothing, only take away from the movie. But to actually see her owning those and doing more than justice to her role, while looking perfect in every scene can only be credited to talent. Nagarjuna’s Anish Shetty is an architect, who wields an astra too that has connection to Lord Shiva. To make them – and us – explain how it works, Mukerji uses the tried and tested charms of bigwigs like Nagarjuna and Shah Rukh Khan as members of the Brahmansh. He knows bits and parts of the grand scheme but cannot fathom the enormity of it. The first part of the trilogy lays the groundwork, but also throws us into the world of Shiva, which he can’t just yet make much sense of. Let’s cut to the chase.
Brahmastra movie review: Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are electric in this Ayan Mukerji spectacle. The film is a treat for long-waiting fans of Hindi cinema ...
Making Brahmastra even more special are Alia and Ranbir - the souls of the film. While the story of Brahmastra was never really meant to be simple, it's the magic of VFX (all made in India), treatment of the astras, and grandeur of everything surrounding the characters that make it a visual spectacle and truly a cinematic experience to be enjoyed on the big screen. And talking of fighting scenes, the action choreography is next level and on par with some of the best we see in films like RRR and Baahubali. Oh, there's also another veteran actor, a member of Brahmansh, who has been given exactly two dialogues and has been royally wasted in this ensemble cast. Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) is a DJ who falls for Isha (Alia Bhatt) at first sight and as their romance blossoms, his quest to find the reason behind his strange connection with fire becomes even stronger. Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva is a love story at the core, but it soon takes form of a fight between the good and the evil when the energies that rule this universe take control.
Impressed with the film, many fans predicted that the superhero flick will "create new records" at the box-office.

Mukerji’s biggest achievement is getting this relationship to flourish, Kapoor and Bhatt being among the precious few real-life couples with palpable onscreen chemistry. The film eventually assumes the familiar shape of the pixelated beat-’em-up, with Amitabh Bachchan outgrowling MCU’s Patrick Stewart as a guru overseeing a Himalayan training camp. Thereafter, the torch of righteousness passes to pin-up Ranbir Kapoor as EDM-blasting DJ Shiva, clueless modern scion of a long-secret society, obliged to save the world from Mouni Roy’s old-school villainess – while solving the mysteries of his lineage and wooing rich girl Isha (Alia Bhatt).

You had all the Astras (money, starcast, vfx...) to make this a great cinematic experience except for Scriptastra. [#Brahmastra]Misses The Target. [#Brahmāstra]could’ve been a game changer, but, alas, it’s a missed opportunity…
Brahmastra, the first installment in the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer trilogy, has opened to tepid reviews from analysts and viewers. Weak reviews have.
[Brahmāstra hits the advance booking bulls eye but needs word of mouth publicity](https://www.businessinsider.in/entertainment/news/brahmstra-hits-the-advance-booking-bulls-eye-but-needs-word-of-mouth-publicity/articleshow/94055321.cms) [Time to buy banks? However, it looks like the first round of disappointed viewers are spreading the bad word out. In Indian mythology, Brahmastra is known as a weapon of unstoppable destruction, which can only be stopped by its counterattack astra (weapon). This analysis was made before the weak reviews poured in. [said](https://twitter.com/_omkarb14/status/1568138364100165640')after watching the movie today. “We believe a positive word of mouth and audience acceptance can help the film breach the upper end,” said Karan Taurani of Elara Capital. “The lifetime box office (collection) for the film is estimated to be in a wide range of ₹130-200 crore, based on the strong advances,” says a media note by Elara Capital. Another viewer explained that beyond the visual effects, the movie was a hotch-potch of bad story-telling, and character development, among other issues. Ironically, the movie could end up being a victim of the weapon it is named after. Movie reviewer and analyst Taran Adarsh gave the Ranbir-Alia starrer a two-star rating, saying that the movie is a king-sized disappointment. If Brahmastra tanks, it could not only be one of the biggest Bollywood flops, but it could also derail the Hindi movie industry’s hopes of a revival at a time when several South Indian movies have broken records nationwide. - The movie with an ensemble cast has been in the making for years and its budget is said to be ₹410 crore.

The fantasy fiction film is said to be made with a budget of Rs 400 crore. At 1 PM, Inox stocks dropped over 5% and are traded at Rs 493.20 per share. Shares of multiplex chain PVR recorded a 10% jump over the past two weeks as there was a huge hype around the film.
Brahmastra has its flaws and its debts, but the bigger question is: will audiences go for a spectacle that's all warmth and soft edges?
Brahmastra merges these worlds: the framework and splashy effects of a Hollywood movie retrofitted onto a story populated with Hindu gods and goddesses. But that film was unlike anything Hollywood was doing at the time, whereas Indian and foreign viewers alike will recognize the familiar foundations of Brahmastra, even if the construction on top is new. Shiva—who's impervious to fire—produces a blast of flaming energy, blowing away the advancing henchman. When he comes to, he decides to go to Varanasi to warn the man whose name was given up (Nagarjuna), and who has a fragment of the Brahmastra. This torture appears in a violent vision—not the only time the film reminded me of Harry Potter—to Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) at just the wrong time, when the carefree DJ is showing curious rich girl Isha (Alia Bhatt) his nifty-looking loft in a chawl. From there on, it’s spot-the-Hollywood-blockbuster, with narrative devices and structures nicked from a variety of franchises.
Alia Bhatt's striking performance could not save film from falling flat.
The same will happen with the next set of actors who decide to be part of Brahmastra movie cast. Given that this is the first time Bollywood has even attempted a film in this genre and at such a scale, it is a shame that the execution turned out to be boring. As opposed to his claim in one of the videos doing the rounds on social media, Brahmastra’s VFX is nowhere near that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shah Rukh Khan plays renowned scientist Mohan Bhargav who possesses Vanar Astra (monkey power) and is shown to be a part of the community that is charged with protecting the Brahmastra. In the razzmatazz and the dazzle, the frenetic music and the array of never-seen-before special effects, there is an acute lack of an arc, an angle, as if the makers did not consider the plot to be worthy enough of any time, money or attention. (Who are you and what is happening here?) asks Alia Bhatt's character Isha, more than once in Ayan Mukerji's mega-tent pole Brahmastra, part one of what is said to be the most expensive Bollywood trilogy till date with a production cost of Rs 410 crore.

In the last three months, we have not seen that. But now producers and script writers are going back to the table in terms of what the customer wants. It is very important to have one good movie every month for this industry to do well. Since in the last two years because of Covid, many movies did not release, some of that content was also old. In the last three months, we have not really seen any good Bollywood performances. Q1 was extremely strong for the movie industry. In regional cinema, some movies have done well but a lot of them have not worked as per expectations. The VFX and the overall production quality have to be strong. Also we have seen that the ticket sales, advance booking has been very strong. No, it is not like that. It is very important that every month one blockbuster is there because there are four weeks you would need to fill up in terms of occupancy at least upwards of 25%-30% for a very good number,” says Brahmastra, if you see, was supposed to be a life saver, a game changer from a near term perspective because the last three months have been quite tough.

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is a high-octane blend of generic Hollywood conventions and predictable Bollywood tics, of technical razzmatazz and emotional traction. In another scene early in the film, Shiva says to Isha that he has no surname because he does not know who his father is. Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) is a DJ who falls for Isha (Alia Bhatt) at first sight and as their romance blossoms, his quest to find the reason behind his strange connection with fire becomes even stronger. But the duo has no time to pause and wonder what on earth is going on. Mukerji, who spent almost eight years to come out with the final film, clearly has gone overboard with certain aspects, but thankfully, it never reaches a point that it starts to bother and distract.

Despite seeing a strong start with the advanced bookings, the film earned mixed reviews on Day 1. It is to be noted that this year the only Bollywood movie that earned a double digit figure on Day 1 was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The movie has Kapoor as Shiva, Bhat as Isha, Bachchan as Guruji, and Roy as the antagonist. Despite mixed reviews, experts feel that the movie may ultimately end the dry spell of Bollywood, and might earn a whopping Rs 35 crore on the opening day. A report by BoxOfficeIndia.com stated that the mythological sci-fi has seen 40-50 per cent occupancy during morning shows, which is the highest for any Hindi film since the pandemic. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in significant roles.

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer records highest first day numbers on a non Holiday for a Bollywood film.
The payout, based on the first day, is certainly pleasing, and one can only hope that the film sustains in the long run, so that the dry spell of Bollywood ends. 'Mujhe iss astra ki shakti ka ehsaas hai Scientist sahab' – says Junoon, the antagonist of Brahmastra, played by the fierce Mouni Roy.
The usage of the word ‘membership’ to refer to the induction of Shiva into the secret society takes away from the seriousness of the scene. Blunders and misfit dialogues aside, the most painful part in Brahmastra was seeing Alia Bhatt, unarguably the best actress of our generation, reduced to a prop. One cannot help but wonder why Alia went for a role as inconsequential as that of Isha who serves little-to-no purpose in the grand scheme of things. It has cinematic brilliance and good visual effects but lacks soul and fails to make the audience feel for its characters. [Amitabh Bachchan](https://www.firstpost.com/tag/amitabh-bachchan)) who is the leader of Brahmansh, a secret society meant to guard Brahmastra. The usage of Love Storiya in Kesariya was only the tip of the iceberg. Ayan’s vision is truly brought to life on the celluloid but sadly, it is the script and the writing which is the hamartia of Brahmastra, the hero all of us hoped would revive Bollywood. As a fantasy film which borrows much of its themes and backstory from the ancient Indian mythology and the legends of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, one would expect the writers to stick to using Hindi words to address characters and symbols. When we see Shiva and Isha discuss the astras, they talk of ‘light’ many times. There is also a high-octane chase sequence featuring one of Junoon’s ‘killers’ which will keep you on the edge of your seat. They appear as sudden bursts of brilliance in between scenes which are monotonous and marred by poor writing.
