LIVE: Aussies ripped for being 'selfish' after review 'shocker'; star rocked by brutal call.

Alex Carey survived 28 balls for 12 runs but ultimately couldn’t turn the tide as he was stumped by the barest of margins to give Mitchell Santner his first wicket as Australia slipped to 5-54 after 18.3 overs. “I can’t believe this is Australia I’m watching,” he said. I simply find it quite astounding.” He’s got to show something in these two games,” Waugh said. Marnus Labuschagne also made five before he was trapped in front by Trent Boult. “Stone dead. That’s as plumb as it gets. That’s where Smith (non-striker) should say, ‘no, that’s absolutely dead. Waugh said that Australia was making the “same mistake over and over” with the bat. I think he’s got these two games. Watch Australia v New Zealand. Waugh was stunned in commentary, suggesting that Australia has been both “naive” when batting and the decisions to review when plumb were “selfish”.

Australia v New Zealand: second one-day international – live! (The Guardian)

Over-by-over report: The trans-Tasman rivals meet again in the three-match Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series in Cairns. Join our writers for updates.

Just a couple to the score. 29th over: Australia 87-5 (Smith 47, Maxwell 17) Maxwell breaks the shackles momentarily, Santner drags one down and Maxwell is onto it in a flash, carving over mid-wicket for SIX! 39th over: Australia 126-8 (Zampa 6, Starc 3) Shot! 40th over: Australia 128-8 (Zampa 7, Starc 4) Two singles off Matt Henry who has 3-25 from nine overs. Four more very welcome runs to the Aussies. 43rd over: Australia 146-8 (Zampa 15, Starc 13) Southee finishes his last over and goes for three runs. Two overs to go, painful runs these for New Zealand. Australia take 11 runs off the final over and plenty of that spurious notion – momentum – into their bowling. Starc has the ball Guptill and Conway have a bat each. 2nd over: New Zealand 4-1 (Conway 2, Williamson 0) A palate cleanser after the spicy start. 5th over: New Zealand 12-1 (Conway 3, Williamson 6) This is challenging for the Black Cap batters. 12th over: New Zealand 18-3 (Williamson 10, Mitchell 0) After 27 dot balls Kane Williamson pounces on a short and wide one from Hazlewood and belts it four in front of square with a textbook cut shot.

[Kane Williamson](https://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/players/1058-kane-williamson-playerprofile) won the toss and opted to bowl as they look to level the series. Sean Abbott and Smith then fell in quick succession as New Zealand looked to wrap up the innings. Australia could have had a second wicket immediately after the first as a mix-up left New Zealand wide open for a run out, but the Australian fielders made a mess of the chance. Steve Smith's 61 and a commendable rearguard effort by Mitchell Starc (38*), Adam Zampa (16) and Josh Hazlewood (23*) helped Australia score 195/9 in their 50 overs in the 2nd ODI against New Zealand. When Smith fell, the score was 117/8, but the tailenders frustrated the visiting bowlers to take Australia close to the 200-run mark. While Australia skipper Aaron Finch fell for a duck in the second over, David Warner was out for 5 soon after. Mitchell Santner then had Alex Carey stumped to leave Australia five down, after the wicketkeeper looked to steady them along with Smith. Mitchell Starc had Guptill flashing at a wide delivery in the first over which resulted in his dismissal, while Conway was caught at backward square leg trying to take on Sean Abbott.

Between those dismissals, the recalled Sean Abbott, in his first outing of the season, had been sharply held at cover off a firmly-struck drive to give Henry his third. [two days ago](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/new-zealand-in-australia-2022-1317459/australia-vs-new-zealand-1st-odi-1317479/full-scorecard), briefly steadied the innings alongside Smith but he departed to a line-call stumping when he missed a reverse sweep against Mitchell Santner. And while much of the focus has been on Finch's form, it continued a lean time for Stoinis who averages 17 since the 2019 ODI World Cup. He has 26 runs in five innings against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, leaving him with 169 runs at 13 this year. David Warner played out a maiden from Boult to begin the match, then Finch faced up to Henry. 11, as they gave themselves a few more to work with than appeared likely at 117 for 8.

14.6 Abbott to Williamson, no run, back of a length on off, backfoot punched towards mid-off. But when a stalwart like Williamson is playing that way, you got to believe there is a plan behind this tepid start. NZ are in a shell, they are showing absolutely no intent! New Zealand just don't have a way out in this match. 15.5 Zampa to Mitchell, FOUR, a boundary after ages! Everyone seems to have forgotten those exist.

Full on the pads, flicked behind square and Labuschagne is the fielder who jumps well to try and pluck it. 0.4 Starc to Guptill, 2 runs, dropped!! Full outside off, no swing and Guptill flashed at it.Gets an edge which travels quickly to Aaron Finch at first slip. Guptill c Finch b Starc 2(5) 0.6 Starc to Williamson, no run, how is that not a wicket? Somehow, NZ don't lose a wicket of that delivery

Adam Zampa flights a googly really full and pitching on off, Trent Boult looks to sweep this one but is early into the shot. Says that the surface was tricky and it was not easy to chase this down and they tried to take the game deep. Signs off by saying that it feels good to wrap up the series and win against the number 1 side in the world. The ball goes on to hit the pads. Says that there will be a new surface in the next game and they need to adjust to that surface quickly in the next game.
