Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City ahead of the summer transfer window deadline.

Chalobah has played as the central defender in a back-three before and could replace Thiago Silva should he continue to develop and improve his level of performance. The Blues have focused on signing players for the future as shown with the arrivals of Omari Hutchinson, Cesare Casadei, Chukwuemeka and Slonina, and Fofana could well fit into that category as well. This would only occur as a last resort with the veteran defender having been a standout performer since making the move to Stamford Bridge, but Fofana's arrival gives Tuchel flexibility with his defensive options. Fofana has played in a four-man defence before with Leicester and proved he can excel due to his physical attributes. The 2022 summer transfer window is almost over but the last few hours are set to be an extremely busy one for Chelsea.

Barcelona are very interested in the 31-year-old defender and are confident they can get a deal to sign him done in time. Brighton are interested in signing the Scotland international, but Chelsea do not want to sell the young midfielder. Thomas Tuchel, though, is understood to very keen on the idea of bringing the Everton forward to Chelsea and are expected to continue negotiations as the day progresses. Chelsea are still confident they can reach a deal to sign Aubameyang in the final hours of the transfer window. With the arrival of Fofana, Ampadu does not appear to be part of Tuchel's immediate plans.
