During the National Day Rally 2022, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also spoke about the need for Singapore to take a strong stance on the war in Ukraine.

“China believes that even if she opposed Russia’s actions, US will not be grateful and reciprocate. “The division between the US and China is deepening. “We are not siding with the US, and we are not against Russia. It has created deep hostility between Russia and the other countries, especially with the US and other NATO countries." However, he noted that while most Singaporeans understood the Government’s position, some have asked “Why offend Russia? And are we sure we should share such messages with our friends?

"So that during the next crisis, we can again draw upon a deep reservoir of trust to see us through, just like we have done during Covid-19." Stressing that Singapore must learn from Covid-19, he said: "One day, the next pandemic will come. With the reduced requirements, they will be optional in most indoor settings. But there is a higher risk of Covid-19 transmission on public transportation and in healthcare settings, he said, and continuing to wear masks in these settings will help to protect the vulnerable against infections. This includes, for example, the ability to work and communicate effectively, as well as children’s ability to learn effectively in schools, he said. “You have to learn to read faces... He added: “ I wish to emphasise that people should still keep their masks on in any settings they are uncomfortable with, and the reality is that wearing masks does reduce the risk of respiratory infections, including influenza and common colds, not just against Covid-19.” The most important lesson was to maintain the spirit of exercising personal and social responsibility, he said. Unlike other countries that have seen sharp spikes and declines in the number of Covid-19 cases, the Republic's Covid-19 waves grow and tail off more gradually, he said. You patiently endured rounds of easing and tightening despite the inconvenience," he said. if (a person) is angry or happy... Experts in Singapore had suggested recently that there was no need to continue enforcing mandatory mask-wearing indoors, since over 90 per cent of the population has been vaccinated and over half the population has been infected with the virus.

National Day Rally 2022 (Prime Minister's Office Singapore)

PM Lee Hsien Loong delivered his National Day Rally speech on 21 August 2022 at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Headquarters.

It is our duty to extend our success formula into the next generation and beyond. Hence we decided to go ahead and restart the T5 project, we redesigned T5 to be more resilient. This is not just to prepare for the next 5 or 10 years, but to rethink what Singapore can look like in the next 50 years and beyond. In the process of moving to Tuas, we modernised and upgraded our port operations. We need to focus on attracting and retaining top talent, in the same way we focus on attracting and retaining investments. That is why we had the know-how, we had the confidence, we were prepared to take bets. We have to amend the Constitution to protect it, and we will do so. The conversation is to build consensus on the kind of Singapore we want to see. But it will also keep what I believe most Singaporeans still want, and that is to retain the basic family structure of marriage between a man and a woman, within which we have and raise our children. It is only possible because we always plan forward, to give ourselves options and solutions during crises, and that is how we must continue to prepare ourselves for the future. We will maintain our current family-oriented approach, and the prevailing norms and values of Singapore society. We have adapted them to the changing situation, and gradually eased them as things stabilised.

National Day Rally 2022: 4 Notable Highlights That Could Impact ... (DollarsAndSense.sg)

Announcements made during the National Day Rally 2022 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong could impact certain groups of Singaporeans.

The first is that we (and the government) should continue to keep a close look at inflation and be ready to do what it takes for us to combat it, including changing our consumption habits if required. All of these will likely be a boon to current homeowners who are living in towns nearby the base. The decision to relocate the Paya Lebar Airbase will create a vast plot of land, with MND estimating that it can build around 150,000 new homes across both the public and private sectors. For the existing Paya Lebar airbase, which is occupying a centralised location, this impacts the buildings in many nearby towns. Also, the government intends to amend the Constitution to protect the definition of marriage – recognised currently by law as taking place between one man and one woman – from being challenged constitutionally in the courts. PM Lee started his National Day Rally 2022rally speech by thanking everyone in Singapore for the collective effort that we have all put in to guard ourselves against COVID-19.

It will be the world's largest fully automated port. The new terminal will serve about 50 million passengers a year, more than T1 and T3 put together. Even as Singapore repeals Section 377A, it will uphold and safeguard the institution of marriage, said PM Lee. Cost of living is at the top of everyone's minds, acknowledged PM Lee. The era of globalisation is over. But the basic reality is that international economic conditions have fundamentally changed. Pointing to how things have gone wrong in Europe, he asked: "Can you be sure things cannot go wrong like that in our region too? But they also need to work together on pressing global problems like climate change, pandemics and nuclear proliferation. He said schools in particular should not require students to wear masks in class. If such a challenge succeeds, it could cause same-sex marriage to become recognised.
