The fact that the film lacks any intent to convey a story that has something to say itself is enough to show you what you may be signing up for if you decide to watch this two-hour film. Of course, it's these intimate scenes that have been a staple to the franchise and without them, the audience would drop watching the film in the drop of a hat. One of the most disturbing bits of this film is also that it constantly has songs playing during the transitions between scenes and it does seem like the film uses music much more than any dialogues. The confusion that Laura faces in choosing between Nacho and Massimo doesn't have enough fodder to make an entire film interesting and hence, a lot of the erotic scenes are forced into the narrative. The dialogues take another hit due to the vivid and obvious lack of the screenwriter’s knowledge of the language. Even though the supporting characters, Laura’s BFF Olga and Domenico, Massimo’s friend and business partner, try (a little too hard) to provide some comic relief, they are burdened with the absolute failure of the script to bring the personalities of their roles alive. While Massimo is dominant and coercive, the new love interest of Laura, Nacho (a gardener: yet another stereotype), is understanding and thoughtful. A climax that feels like a montage of two people falling in love (when they are most definitely absolutely not), one where you wish the franchise would come to a uneventful end speaks a lot about films that are over-ridden with sexual content but still don’t further any intellectual or financial capabilities. The Next 365 Days is a tough brawl between sexual montages and dimly lit discos that boast of the former yet again. The premise of the first two movies sold an alluring fantasy, that of a hard-working independent woman giving up the atrocities of the professional world and skimming through mediocre men to let a mafia rule their lives in exchange for non-vanilla sex.

At this point, I think I understand what the appeal is about these deeply silly movies, and I also think it’s a waste of time to critique them on the level that you ordinarily would. It felt purely aesthetic at first – Laura gets to have her cake and eat it, more so in this movie than either of the previous two. Weirdly, though, I don’t think this not being a “proper” film is even a criticism at this point. Even the most authoritative of men can’t put business first in this fantasy. It’s easy to dismiss everything to do with 365 Days, on a moral level – they’re still about deeply unhealthy ideas of sex and relationships – and a technical one since they are really atrociously written and plotted if you stop to think about it for even a second. The first was that these films are essentially review-proof, which I pointed out in

Though she’s referring to her deeply uninvolving romantic dilemma, it’s hard not to hear her speaking with the wistful voice of the Netflix accountancy department, as they, and they alone, offer up a prayer that there might be many more “365 Days” to come. Granted, the songs are 100% indistinguishable and all the lyrics appear written by the same algorithm that generates the dialogue: Who knows what to make of a sex scene scored to a gravel-voiced chorus of “Fuck society?” Still, 25! Indeed, the only contributors who don’t appear completely tapped out by the end of “The Next 365 Days” are those with arguably the most reason to be. One wants to ball her in the Mediterranean, the other wants “to meditate with her in Bali.” Tomasz Mandes and Mojca Tirš, co-writing with the books’ author Blanka Lipinska, already distanced “This Day” from the original film’s queasy rapiness, but now seem eager to engineer a full 180. During one would-be dramatic confrontation between Laura and Massimo, it’s hard not to be distracted by the handprints on the glass rooftop railing between them that glint greasily in the lens flare. Nacho, who absconded with Laura, aka “baby girl” (still ick), in episode two and was then revealed to be the scion of another Sicilian gangster clan, attends a post-bloodbath parlay with Massimo.

The only sort of answer the book does give, is that in that, Laura choses Nacho and Massimo agrees to a divorce. The plot of the third book is completely different to the third film, including Massimo killing Laura’s dog, Laura being an alcoholic, and needing a heart transplant. After saying he’s been left broken from finding out Laura went through the loss of their baby alone, and that she turned to Nacho, Massimo asks her one last time, “Are you back, babygirl?” to which Laura just stands there. Of course, she says Nacho is a good person, and pleads Laura gives him a chance to explain himself. Laura all but tells Nacho she wants to be with him, but needs more time to sort things with Massimo. Laura and Massimo’s story has come to and end, and we’ll no longer have more films where all we do is watch them have sex and occasionally chat about mafia stuff.

The latest chapter in the quaggy eroto-saga of Laura and Massimo is DOA nearly all the way – “nearly” because it drops in a real hell of a hoot of a howler of a third-act dream sequence that’s a brief bit of audacity before resuming the movie’s dreary cycle of montages, Olga’s godawful comic relief, ponderous images of Laura brooding and smarmy-smeary sex scenes, all rife with mondo-mutilated English dialogue and set to an incessant and interminable downtempo dreck-rock soundtrack. OK, so Laura and Massimo bang, but then the marriage hits the rocks and she throws herself into “work” – you may recall, in the previous movie Massimo bought her a clothing-design company which she never bothered to have anything to do with until now. (That’s the last of the too-easy Nacho jokes, promise.) Massimo goes to gangster parties with coke and hookers, and I think he remains faithful; it’s hard to tell when you’re watching a random collection of shots of bare chests and butts and breasts in various iterations of sexual congress. (Perhaps you’ve noticed that everyone in this movie series is permanently horny.) But Massimo reminds her that the doctor says no schtupping until she’s all healed up, so instead of getting a sex scene after the first five minutes of the movie, we have to wait five more. So mayhaps it’s wise to divorce analysis of these movies from the whole of the filmmaking art, and stick to intra-franchise comparisons: Is it possible that The Next 365 Days is even worse than the previous two? The Gist: Before we get too deep here (phrasing), we need to recap the ending of 365 Days: This Day: The marital “bliss” between rich and rapey gangster Massimo (Michele Morrone) and quasi-slave-wife Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka) went all topsy-turvy when she thought he was cheating on her – but it turns out the man she saw fornicating with another woman was actually Massimo’s (gasp) twin brother.

As expected, Laura did not die in the shooting, although she was injured. The only real death is of Massimo's evil twin brother, Adriano. Anna also died. But ...

The Next 365 Days does not have a post-credits scene. However, the movie does not tell us definitively whether or not Laura and Massimo got back together or if she went back to Nacho. He’s more upset that his own actions pushed Laura away from him and she had to deal with the loss of the baby alone. Most of the movie is spent with Laura trying to decide between Massimo and Nacho. But Laura survived the shooting. Well, the end is officially here, at least for now.

The characters lack depth, which makes the love triangle laughable. Perhaps the writers should have weaved a tale of romance between Nacho and Massimo; at least ...

He wanted to be with her, and for that, he was ready to do whatever it was that she wanted of him. He did the same with Laura, and he now wanted to know if she had returned to be with him forever. He wanted to be with her only if she wanted to spend her life with him. Laura might choose to not be with Massimo, knowing how she always felt caged in his presence. She wanted Laura to allow him to explain himself since what he did was for his father and not because he wanted to betray her. Laura returned to the hotel, and she was met with Massimo’s temper. She wanted to make out with Massimo, but he wanted her to rest. She asked Massimo to give her time and space to make sense of what she wanted from her life. He was the reason why her life was in disarray, and even though she wanted to detest him, she was attracted to him. He reminded her that he was not Massimo and he would never force her to go against her wish. She knew her marriage was failing, and she did not wish the same for her business. The kiss between Nacho and Massimo in Laura’s dream is a vision of the desperation of the filmmaker to sell the film in some way or another.

In the books, Massimo is an absolute villain and much worse than the character in the films. Who does Laura end up with in the The Next 365 Days film and book ending? She asks for space to sort her feelings out, so Massimo goes home to Sicily and Laura goes home to her parents house where she confesses she's in love with "someone else," a.k.a. While on a business trip to Portugal, Laura meets Nacho and the two end up getting together and having sex on the beach. The film starts with Laura and Massimo back at it again. At that point, Massimo is then convinced she’s hiding something and the two separate for a bit.

On the other hand, if you think this film is a haunting study of a woman learning how to leave her abusive partner, Laura’s comment to Nacho that she has to get out of this situation suggests she leaves Massimo. Olga is worried Massimo will murder Laura, but she says she’s not afraid of her husband and that she’s going to return to Sicily. If you want to believe in the enduring bond of Massimo and Laura, you could take her polite comment that Massimo will be a good father one day as proof that she stays. Laura dreams of a threeway with both Massimo and Nacho in which, yes, the men make out. To this, Laura says she needs to speak to Massimo, adding she can’t stay in that situation anymore, but she needs more time. When Laura returns to her hotel, a furious Massimo is waiting for her. He then confesses his love for her and drives her to a random house that may or may not be his. Laura devotes herself to work, because, you know, she has a fashion line that Massimo bought her for Christmas in the last film. Laura and Olga go to a fashion fair in Lagos, Portugal where they do more partying and brand ambassador-ing. Laura then sneaks out to dinner with Olga and confesses that she might have feelings for Nacho. Laura finally falls asleep and dreams of having sex with Nacho, but when she wakes up, it’s Massimo in her bed. After nearly dying at the end of 365 Days: This Day (and almost dying at the end of the original 365 Days), Laura has decided she’s been given a second chance at life.
