Manchester United sign Real Madrid legend Casemiro in £60m ... (Goal.com)

He'll join the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez among the club's summer signings. How much have Man Utd paid for Casemiro? Man ...

The latter is thought to be valued by his club in excess of £90m ($106m), perhaps putting off interest from United. Currently Ten Hag's squad appears to be lacking a player who is a natural in this position, so the Brazilian will almost certainly have an impact. United have looked at Carrasco's Atletico Madrid teammate Matheus Cunha as well, but it is believed a nine-figure sum may be needed to lure the Brazilian to Old Trafford. Casemiro won five Champions Leagues in a nine-year spell with Los Blancos and Erik ten Hag will be hoping the Brazilian can bring some much-needed experience to the United midfield. They listed his honours while at the Spanish giants, which included five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles. "Real Madrid is and will always be his home, and we wish him and his whole family the best of luck in this new stage of his life."

Casemiro transfer: Manchester United's offer for Brazilian may be ... (CBSSports.com)

The €60 million fee and four-year contract suggest that Erik ten Hag can build a system around the defensive midfielder.

Ten Hag spoke about how he had assurances from the Glazer family that he'd be backed in the summer but they could be finding out how much polish United needs to restore the former shine to the badge making it an attractive destination. If ten Hag isn't planning to accommodate Casemiro, similar issues playing out of the back will happen when he's targeted, which is why this feels like a desperation signing. They've spent all summer pinning their hopes on adding Frenkie de Jong and with that seeming unlikely, things are being thrown at the wall to see what sticks. Brentford targeted the trio of David De Gea, Lisandro Martinez, and Eriksen with their press leading to the second goal for the Bees after De Gea also made a mistake on the opener. Casemiro's role can be a little confusing at Real Madrid as at times he's deeper than the adventurous David Alaba but his importance to the defense is clear. Casemiro's struggles and age are what make this a bit of a head-scratcher for Manchester United. But for all of his defensive strength, Casemiro isn't perfect, which is why Manchester United's offer may be too good to refuse for Los Blancos. While Carlo Ancelotti leaves the team to their own devices for free-flowing attacks, the presence of Casemiro provides stability amid the chaos. But the style that Real Madrid plays couldn't be more different than how ten Hag would like United to play as Raphael Varane has also found out after making the swap from Santiago Bernabeu to Old Trafford. The Red Devils sit at the bottom of the table as it's clear that ten Hag needs reinforcements on the side. For a team that needed help in the middle of the park, it doesn't get much better than Casemiro but how will Erik ten Hag deploy him? Casemiro will sign a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year pending the completion of a medical and his visa being approved.

My first professional match was scheduled in the ‘local’ town of Griffith, NSW, a mere 360km and more than four hours’ bus trip away. After 10 minutes there was a foot of water on the pitch/pond. Alas, a lack of floodlights – and a kick-off time that didn’t factor in extra-time – forced an abandonment on 105 minutes with the score 5-5. I gave my ticket to the barman who was also a Blue for the rearranged fixture, as I couldn’t make it. Superstar or superflop? Will Casemiro fit Man Utd? (BBC Sport)

Whether or not the 30-year-old defensive midfielder, who has won five Champions League titles, ends up being a superstar or superflop, the only certain thing is ...

0.8 Those sort of figures suggest Tchouameni was never bought in just to make up the numbers. Maybe that is no surprise; the wear and tear on players in that most taxing defensive midfield role is considerable. But you don't survive and then ultimately triumph in a bear pit like Real Madrid without being made of the strongest of stuff. Casemiro might not be enough to help them to climb up the table. Casemiro will improve the side but it seems unlikely he will make a huge difference to United on his own. If he decides to play Casemiro in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Fred or Scott McTominay, Ten Hag will have a physical side but one that lacks control. For Ten Hag, it will be a case of finding the right balance to make sure the new arrival fits in as best as possible. Ancelotti has asked him to go forward more often, occasionally taking on an offensive midfield role, and he scored seven times last season - equalling his career best for a campaign. That could be a problem with United when faced with teams that pressure high if he is expected to drive with the ball. While the unglamorous Casemiro added some of that balance, he was also prone to mistakes. It's said that Hollywood director Cecil B DeMille could find nobodies and turn them into stars.

Man United's new signing Casemiro: Everything you need to know (ESPN)

Manchester United have spent €60m to bring in world-class midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid, but what can they expect from him?

[Barcelona](/soccer/team?id=83)'s [Sergio Busquets](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/121893/Sergio-Busquets), had more ball recoveries than Casemiro (230) in LaLiga last season, and that's playing for a Madrid team which tends to dominate possession. He might be 30, but he's still vastly experienced and one of the best in the world in his position; United couldn't really say no when the opportunity came up. He breaks up play, reads the game well and he's comfortable sitting in front of the back four -- which is something United have missed even before Ten Hag arrived. The Brazilian's role in that trio was well-defined as most defensive-minded of the three, protecting Madrid's defence, winning the ball back and providing a platform on which more attack-minded colleagues could flourish -- although he has shown a growing desire to get forward over the years, too. He has been compared in style to legendary Real Madrid defensive midfielder Claude Makelele, though Casemiro's positional sense and determination mark him out as one of the best around. Casemiro usually sits deep as the central pivot in front of the centre-backs in a 4-3-3 system.

Man Utd agree £70m deal to sign Real Madrid legend Casemiro (Goal.com)
