None of the Zimbabwe batters looked comfortable during those opening overs as Chahar got a lot of deliveries to dart back late while some straightened after pitching. This is because there will be at least one spinner less in the final composition of the squad as sideโs wonโt require four spinners for pitches Down Under. (example: u cannot substitute for you, d is not 'the', n is not 'and'). Not to forget that it was also their third century-plus stand from the start of the West Indies series. Rahul foregoing his spot at the top of the order to let the in-form pair maintain its momentum, Dhawan and Gill scored their third half-centuries in last four games. Zimbabwe dropped Takudzwanashe Kaitano but were boosted by the return of the experienced Sean Williams.
He started the next over with a four and a six through and over midwicket that took India to 150, and he even overtook Dhawan in the next over. Gill started attacking more when he neared his fifty and brought up the landmark by dispatching two full tosses from Burl through the covers in the 25th over. He soon reached his 38th ODI fifty, his third in four innings, by when Gill had also opened up with three fours in the square region on the off side in one Evans over. Chahar started gingerly before he sent back the hosts' top order in an opening burst of 7-0-27-3, in which he swung the ball both ways and had Innocent Kaia and Tadiwanashe Marumani caught behind by the ninth over. When Axar struck in successive overs by removing Chakabva and Luke Jongwe, it looked like Zimbabwe would be skittled for under 150, but Ngarava and Evans fought back with a flurry of boundaries off both pace and spin as conditions improved for batting. Chahar's swing, Prasidh Krishna's bounce and Axar Patel's accuracy helped them bag three wickets apiece to bowl the hosts out for 189 before Dhawan and Gill hunted the target down with nearly 20 overs to spare.

Zimbabwe showed some solid fight down the order but it was a little too late for the hosts. Goes fuller and just outside off with some turn, Victor Nyauchi looks to loft it but gets a thick outside edge. He says that he backed himself as the batter and will look to do the same with the ball. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav worked in tandem in the middle and kept the run flow in control. Will the hosts be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat here? Axar Patel bagged three wickets while the latter was a bit unlucky and remained wicketless. Regis Chakabva got off to a good start but was unable to bat deep. Adds that they tried to keep it simple with the blade. He has come back into the side and recorded his best figures in ODI cricket with three wickets to his name. Says they focused on watching the ball and hitting the same. Zimbabwe though would be hoping to start brightly with the new ball and put up a solid fight. This should not be a tough ask for the Indian batters, given the strength in their rank.

It was good to see Richi (Ngarava) and Brad give us that partnership at the end. Our bowlers tried to come hard at them, but obviously they batted really well and took the game away from us. I'm fine and the body is fine as well. As it turned out, Indian seamers found ample movement and settled into excellent rhythm after a couple of erratic overs. Zimbabwean skipper: The Indian bowlers bowled really well, put the pressure on us and we lost our way after the first 4-5 overs. For a few of us, it is great to be back in the Indian dressing room. There was a bit of swing and seam movement as well, but it was good to see the bowlers stay disciplined and pick up those wickets. Before coming here I played at least 4-5 practice games and the body and mind wasn't working together in the first few overs, but it got better after that. As a team we have been in good form, good to see that all of us are getting enough game time. Player of the Match - removed Zimbabwe's top 3 inside 11 overs: The landing was a little hard and when you play a international game after six and half months, obviously you will be a little nervous. Indian skipper: We do play a lot of cricket and injuries are going to be part of it. It is a tough time and we worked together (me, Kuldeep and Deepak) in Bangalore.

Sony Six, Sony TEN 3 and Sony TEN 4 channels will live broadcast the Zimbabwe vs India second ODI in India. Therefore, a left-right combination of Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul won't be a bad option in case Shikhar Dhawan's forearm injury sustained towards the end of the match turns out to be serious. The immediate target for the side would be to try and bat first in case Rahul wins the toss in Saturday's second ODI. Just like batting in morning could be a challenge for Rahul and Co. India's tour of Zimbabwe will be telecast live on Sony Sports Network in India. Deepak Chahar had pointed out after the first game that there is little help for the bowlers during the second session and the only time there's some challenge for batters is the first hour of the match.
Fast-bowler friendly conditions are likely to persist in Harare in the second ODI of the three-match rubber.
- India's bowling average in ODIs during the first ten overs this year is 24.32, their best in a calendar year since 2003 (23.68). The way he bats and times the ball is lovely to watch.
