'She-Hulk: Attorney At Law' Episode 1 Gives Jen Walters Her Short ... (Collider.com)

The first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is the origin story we need for Tatiana Maslany's Jen Walters before we dive into "fun lawyer show."

The episode ends in explosive fashion, with Titania (Jameela Jamil) bursting through the walls of the courtroom just as Jen is starting to deliver her closing remarks, having decided to return to her life and rejecting the mantle of superhero. With more familiar faces from the MCU set to arrive in the coming weeks, including Wong (Benedict Wong), Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) and of course Daredevil (Matt Murdock), it's just a matter of time before the lawyer show becomes the superhero show. But when she first gets them, she loses control on a group of men who follow her out of a bar and force their presence on her in the kind of terrifying moment too many of us are familiar with. As the three prepare to head to court, Jen hangs back for a moment and turns to address the audience directly and explain why exactly it is that Nikki made reference to Jen "hulking out" in court. While she's secluded on an island in Mexico with Bruce, who has reassumed his Smart Hulk form, she points out that mastery of her emotions — anger in particular — is something that comes far more naturally to her than it does to him. Dennis is a little less than helpful, claiming he should be the one to make the closing argument, while Nikki is far more encouraging.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law gets off to a fun, self-aware start (The A.V. Club)

A charming Tatiana Maslany makes us fall for Marvel's latest small-screen superhero.

To drive her point home, Jen goes from human to Hulk and back again with the ease of a woman unhooking her bra at the end of a long workday. As she’s tearing the place apart, Nikki crawls over to Jen and tells her that she needs to Hulk out to save the civilians around them. To the tune of “Fast (Motion)” by Saweetie, Bruce teaches her boulder-throwing, wardrobe tips (“spandex is your best friend”), and Hulk yoga. We then return to present-day Jen, who tells us she’s been able to keep her powers under wraps since, only coming out as a Hulk to Nikki and her family. (“Those are, like, the baseline of any woman just existing,” she deadpans.) He goes in hot with a wall of buzzing saw-blades, and Jen transforms, easily stopping the saws and tearing the door off. But Bruce insists she still needs to learn to control her transformations and master her powers. “Whoever did this to you does not care about...” one says, and they surround her in a cloud of makeup, hairspray, and goodwill, gifting her a fuzzy pink jacket and a pair of iridescent sandals. What’s more, he was able to use her blood to heal his arm and is now back in fighting shape. This is his Mexican hideaway, the place where, with the help of his old pal Tony, he figured out a way to combine violent Hulk and gentle Bruce into one guy. The rapport between the cousins—and between Maslany and Ruffalo—is immediately obvious as they gossip about everything from Jen’s habit of eating Flamin’ Hot Cheetos with chopsticks (product placement!) to whether Captain America died a virgin. Four women who are clearly having the night of their lives come in and immediately offer Jen the kind of support that you only find in women’s restrooms at midnight. She wakes up after dark in human form, barefoot and covered in dirt and blood, and stumbles into the bathroom of the hilariously named Ideal Sports Bar.

But with eight more episodes on the way, we’ll have plenty of time to get to know Jennifer – and her alter-ego – better. We only get a very brief glimpse at this side of Jennifer’s other life, including a very brief introduction to There are also other classic MCU references to enjoy: Bruce and Jennifer’s hideout was built by Tony Stark, the spaceship that sent them off course was Sakaaran, and they solve the issue of Bruce’s injured arm after the [Spider-Man](https://www.gamesradar.com/marvel-spider-man-ps4-review/), but not far off) as she prepares to take to the courtroom floor for her latest case. She’s so likable as soon as she’s on screen, effortlessly nailing the comedy, including some particularly great moments where she grapples with the foot-and-a-half difference between her Hulk height and her Jennifer height. In fact, she doesn’t seem to have much of an issue at all with her new powers, much to Bruce’s amazement. He’s got a binder – and 13 years of trauma – to help. Now, as Phase 4 comes to an end with its last episodic series, She-Hulk is planning to push the superhero genre even further as the studio's first all-out comedy – all in the guise of a half-hour legal drama. A rogue spaceship pulls out in front of their car and causes them to roll and crash. Both survive, but Bruce gets some of his blood on Jennifer’s open wound, turning her into She-Hulk. Think less Thanos, and more about the perils of dating on Tinder when you’re six-foot-seven and green.

But hey, perhaps viewers who love network-style sitcoms and procedural shows will get more of a kick out of the whole thing, and perhaps She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will markedly improve after episode four. The later procedural stuff is also kinda interminable, with a succession of There are plenty of MCU connections in the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and most of them are weaved in via Bruce filling in some Phase 3 gaps for us. She is able to control her Hulk situation a lot more easily, she is still basically herself when in Hulk form, and she has no intention of being a superhero. Episode one is different to the rest, and sticks to Jen’s origin story before the series becomes its true procedural self. Bruce references his origin story as Edward Norton and several moments in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron while discussing how he was historically able to transition from Banner to the Hulk and back again. It’s not just that this vibe feels dated as all hell, it also speaks to how far behind the MCU is with female superhero representation that it feels the need to catch up in such a lazy and clichéd way. Not for nothing, that famous image of Oscar Isaac eating Cheetos with chopsticks also sprung to mind when Jen was praising the virtues of the technique with Bruce. The bulk of the premiere then focuses on Jen first learning to cope with her powers, and Bruce testing her limits. Some of the messaging in this show is as subtle as a boulder being thrown your way. She-Hulk review: Tatiana Maslany's feminist dramedy is best MCU ... (Hindustan Times)

She-Hulk review: Marvel's latest superhero show merges the action genre with a light feminist dramedy to excellent effect. Tatiana Maslany steals the show.

Questions have been raised about the tone of the show and how Marvel is diluting the seriousness of the stakes in MCU with these lighter shows. Jameela Jamil as the superpowered influencer Titania is a fun addition to the MCU, and one can’t wait to see more of her in the future. That’s got more to do with Marvel studios working their VFX divisions like sweatshops and less with the show in itself. He feels out of place in a different tone of the MCU and his Hulk feels like a watered-down version of who he once was. I feel marvel Studios is trying to find a spot in every niche, every genre with its content, so that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has something for everyone. She is the beating heart of the show. There are lots of cameos thrown in to connect the show to the larger Marvelverse, most notably Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Charlie Cox, and of course Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. It’s a show from the perspective of a woman in her 30s, trying to find that work-life balance, while also battling demons from an alternate dimension. [Marvel Cinematic Universe](https://www.hindustantimes.com/topic/marvel-cinematic-universe) the concept of breaking the fourth wall, which we have come to love in shows like Fleabag and of course, the Deadpool films. [ Marvel](https://www.hindustantimes.com/topic/marvel)’s web series are getting more relatable and as real-life as possible in a world full of parallel universes, time travel, and god-killing warriors. She-Hulk takes it forward by bringing issues like sexism at workplace and the cesspool that is dating apps. At its heart, She-Hulk is not even a superhero show.

For Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), that query comes quite literally as she's gifted with the powers of a Hulk. To be a Hulk — like her cousin, Bruce Banner ...

Her new powers have made clear how unfairly she’s been treated, and now she has the ability to do something about it. Good for She-Hulk for being the first MCU superhero to use her powers for horniness. But her new success brings to light the way Jen has been continually overlooked and taught to undercut herself. One is about recognizing what you owe other people; the other is about recognizing what we owe ourselves. If given the choice to live a superhero’s life, she would ask if it offered health care (the Avengers famously do not). Perhaps I’m naive, but I’d hope that someone tuning into She-Hulk and wanting to enjoy it would know that cat-calling a woman on the street is not good behavior. In the first four episodes critics were given, there are plots in which Jen has to figure out the legal ramifications of supervillain parole or how to serve a cease and desist to unlicensed magic users. How 'She-Hulk: Attorney At Law' Reveals More About Smart Hulk's ... (Collider.com)

The show answers a few questions that fans have had about the jade giant post-'Avengers: Endgame'. she-hulk-trailer-bruce-banner ...

The device breaks during the car crash, meaning that Banner reverts to his "Smart Hulk" form, although he uses Jennifer's blood to heal his broken arm — an injury sustained when he snapped his fingers while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. In the She-Hulk pilot, he explains that the device helps him revert to human form while also healing the damage that he received to his arm when he wielded the Infinity Stones in Endgame. And given Banner's presence in She-Hulk, as well as the return of the Abomination (Tim Roth), it looks like the jade giant will continue to have a major influence on the MCU's future. This winds up being a moot point as Jennifer has more of a handle on her Hulk strength, even being able to change back and forth between forms at will. The first episode shows that transformation, with a car crash leading to Bruce's gamma-irradiated blood seeping into Jennifer's wounds and transforming her into the She-Hulk — but the rest of the episode also reveals more about how Bruce was able to merge his two separate personalities into one whole Hulk. The She-Hulk pilot expands further on this: during the five-year gap between Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Banner constructed a lab in Mexico with the help of Tony Stark.

'She-Hulk' Is Getting Review-Bombed Even Harder Than 'Ms. Marvel' (Forbes)

She-Hulk attracted controversy ahead of release for its digital effects in trailers, but past that, happens to be an MCU show directed by, written by, ...

She-Hulk has a 90% critic score with 255 reviews in and 77% audience score, which isn’t great (it’s the lowest among MCU shows at the moment), but it’s not as intensive of a bombing run as what’s being shown on IMDB. So yes, as ever, this kind of review bombing is incredibly childish and stupid. I also thought the comedy and fourth wall-breaking worked, but I’m certainly curious to see more and how the show develops now that Jennifer is back in lawyer mode. And as I posted last time, here’s what this curve looks like for a “just okay” series like Falcon and the Winter Soldier that no one is bombing: Yes, more than a third of all reviews for She-Hulk are 1 star, which makes its current IMDB score 5.4 out of 10, the lowest of all the MCU series. Marvel is still at a 6.2 with 19.9% 1 star reviews, so it’s not like IMDB every really goes and tries to sort through these kinds of bombing campaigns. All I have to do is consult the last article I wrote about this, which shows what review bombing actually looks like, where it’s taking place on Marvel, and what has not happened to the same extent with other MCU series. In fact, this is actually worse than what happened with Ms. - Hawkeye – 1.5% - She-Hulk – 35.8% - Loki – 1.5%

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Series-Premiere Recap: Better Call Walters (Vulture)

In the new MCU show, Bruce Banner's cousin Jennifer Walters becomes a Hulk, but rather than be a superhero, she wants to keep being a lawyer.

The IRL actor and fictional Jen share a love of eating • Jen’s origin story is a bit different here than it is in the comics. This makes sense to me, and not in a #girlboss or “girls mature faster” or “backward and in heels” kind of way. In the post-credits scene, Jen fakes being drunk so she can get Bruce plastered and finally learn the dirty deets about Captain Rogers — who Bruce confirms hooked up with a girl on the USO tour back in the 1940s. Back in the present in Los Angeles, Jen is ready to nail her closing argument in the case against GLK&H. The third time she transforms, she retains her mind and memory and doesn’t need to be talked to like a wild animal. Eager to train the new green meanie in the family, Bruce assembles a binder of notes to help teach his cuz the ropes and determine what triggers her transformations. 'She-Hulk' Creator Jessica Gao On Marvel Series Launch Today ... (Deadline)

The Emmy winning creator of Marvel's just debuted first out-&-out comedy reveals how it all came together & where it could be going.

“The beauty of television is we have the time and the space to spend time with the character,” the Emmy-winning EP adds of the [Tatiana Maslany](https://deadline.com/tag/tatiana-maslany/) starring superhero series. Also in the well-paced mix is Good Place vet Jameela Jamil as a costumed influencer (to put it mildly), plus Ginger Gonzaga as Walters/She-Hulk’s BFF and paralegal and fellow superhuman division lawyer Augustus Pugliese, played by Josh Segarra. The EP also gives us a sense where She-Hulk could end up next in potential future seasons and those dual Avengers flicks announced at Comic-Con last month. In that context, the show sees appearances from Mark Ruffalo as the Bruce Banner cousin of Maslany’s Los Angeles lawyer Jennifer Walters, Tim Roth back in his Abomination role from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk movie, and more of Dr. Take a listen to our convo with Jessica this morning here — and yes, there’s more on that Steve Rogers sex talk. (Slott teases something called the Reckoning War in his She-Hulk comics; that wouldn’t come to fruition until the very end of his Fantastic Four run, earlier this year. The idea that She-Hulk would work in an office that specializes in superhuman legal cases comes from this mid-2000s series written by Dan Slott, who’d go on to make his name with an extensive run as Marvel’s primary Spider-Man writer. If there’s a breakthrough project for She-Hulk, it’s Sensational She-Hulk, a stealth reboot of the entire character that established her as a comedy hero.

She-Hulk Recap: It's Not Easy Being Green — Grade the Disney+ ... (TVLine)

Marvel's "She-Hulk" this Thursday made the case for headlining her own Disney+ series. What say you, the jury?

Once this very random (and to-be-explained-later) threat is neutralized, Jen returns to her normal self, clothes a bit tattered, and plainly tells the judge, “I’m ready to give my closing argument now.”](https://tvline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/she-hulk-maslany-video.jpg) Nikki quietly urges Jen to do her “thing,” publicly for the first time, and — favorite outfit be damned — Jen kicks off her heels and swells into her She-Hulk form, to clobber Titania. Tensions cool as Jen helps Bruce rebuild the bar, during which he concedes that she can return to her normal life. Powers like this can put a target on your back, he warns, but Jen is more focuses on her ability to metabolize booze — “All buzz, no barf,” Bruce boasts. The question then becomes, “How can Jen turn herself back?,” as Bruce warns that he was once “stuck” as Hulk for two years, in outer space. And as she drags out a dazed Bruce, blood from his own wound drips into hers, nearly instantly causing her to “hulk out,” as seen in a car door reflection.

'She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law' explained: Bruce Banner, Nikki Ramos (Los Angeles Times)

The 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' team — including Jessica Gao, Kat Coiro, Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo — break down the series' key relationships.

“As actors, they were bonding about all of these technical aspects that they have to deal with” in the motion capture suit, says Coiro. “He thinks somehow he’s going to mansplain what it is to be the Hulk to her, and she ends up teaching him just as much as he’s trying to teach her, if not more,” says Ruffalo. Because Jen’s origin story involves Banner, “She-Hulk” allows the genius scientist to show new sides of his life through his interactions with his cousin. And from the first episode, “She-Hulk” does not shy away from addressing how women like Jen live with constant pressure to control their rage and fear in a way that men like Banner do not have to. “In so many things, even when they have loving friends, someone’s stabbing someone in the back at some point, and it’s so unnecessary,” says Gonzaga. “There’s a real fun antagonism there.” And yet, when you present so differently, when you are suddenly green and gigantic and every eye in the room turns to you when you walk in through a door, you do modulate your personality.” And Gonzaga sidesteps the answer like a true MCU pro when questioned about whether Nikki has any secrets or powers of her own. Below are some of Jen’s key relationships introduced in “She-Hulk” so far. [Mark Ruffalo](https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2020-07-07/mark-ruffalo-derek-cianfrance-i-know-this-much-is-true-hbo), quoting head writer Jessica Gao, is “how horny-forward [the story] is” compared to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he shares with a laugh. “It was effortless to be friends with her … Despite gaining the ability to transform into a powerful, giant, green version of herself, though, Walters insists she will keep living the same life she did before the accident.

She-Hulk's head writer Jessica Gao explains that the end credits scene came from Kevin Feige.

As hinted at in the interview, Cap’s first time won’t be the last time fan-favorite topics are going to be discussed on She-Hulk. Also, that he was okay—obviously—with the amazing, meme-worthy “Captain America fucks!” scream that ends the scene. It was Kevin Feige who not only didn’t discourage Gao from exploring the sex life of Captain America—he also supplied the very specific bit of information that Cap lost his virginity in 1943 on the USO Tour. 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' finally answers the question of whether Captain America died a virgin — and Mark Ruffalo didn't warn Chris Evans about it.

"And I was like, 'You have the answer, and we can tell everyone?' And he was like, 'Yeah.' So this is Marvel canon. She loved how Jen is obsessed with Captain America's virginity because "it's the human side of him, the real side, the thing that she would [relate to]." "We didn't set out thinking that we were going to be able to answer it," Gao tells EW. In that vein of that question, there's a lot more Easter eggs like that throughout the season. But the actress admits she had no idea this was something Marvel fans have been wondering for years, adding, "I love that that's how everybody's thinking. "That's all the human stuff that we don't get to [usually see]," he says. But it turns out no one warned Captain America himself that a very personal piece of his history was about to be broadcast to the world. "What's great about this show is that we get to see them as just human beings and what their lives are and what those histories are. The cat's out of the bag." as the scene abruptly cuts, and now that piece of very vital information is cemented in the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. An annoyed Bruce decides to put an end to her rambling by disclosing a shocking piece of information he's been sitting on for years: "Steve Rogers is not a virgin. On its own, it's a brilliantly meta bit that calls out the legions of fans who debated that very topic for years (before Avengers: Endgame revealed that Steve ended up with Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter, thanks to some time travel).

First and foremost though, this is a She-Hulk show, and we need to see her be able to handle threats on her own. Fortunately, she was able to easily defeat Jameela Jamil’s Titania at the end of this episode, so this shouldn’t be an issue. Given that Bruce's arms device was blinking after the car crash, it appears that it was either partially or completely damaged, thus explaining why he reverted to Hulk form. The origin story portion of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s premiere episode, “A Normal Amount of Rage,” began with showing Bruce Banner on a road trip with his cousin, Jennifer Walters, played by Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany. During the five-year gap between Thanos’ snap and the Mad Titan’s genocide being undone, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce found a way to combine his intelligence and personality with Hulk’s physique, and Smart Hulk was born! She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Case Files: Series Premiere Promises ... (Rotten Tomatoes)

Certain viewers unfamiliar with the comic books have been clearly confused by this entry in Disney+'s Marvel series offerings. The comedy? It's built in.

It could be something we’re meant to parse simply as a joke, but the moment Bruce notices it suggests it may really be happening to Jen in the context of her reality. Granted, the latter may be a throwaway joke (as far as we can tell, there is no Ched Banner or Ched Walters in Marvel Comics lore), but it could always be a segue for one of the other Hulks to emerge in the MCU. We’re going to assume something similar will happen here as we know Jen will be working for a private firm, GLK/H, in the not-too-distant future. Is she some sort of hired muscle — an occupation her comic book counterpart has been known to take up — or is she just another example of the growing superpowered community referenced in some of the show’s previews? In just a few shots, it really establishes how different and absurd the MCU is from our own reality. As it happens, Jen has a cousin in the comics named David Pike, who becomes superpowered so Jen’s aunt can exact revenge on both her and her father. The two already seem like family, and, as Bruce suggests, there is something in the family genetics that makes them capable of converting the gamma radiation into Hulk powers. [Mark Ruffalo](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/mark_ruffalo)) long-winded explanation of why his arm is still healing as he and Jen drive down the Mexican road in the program’s opening minutes. The option of weeks or months means certain events in other films or shows may have occurred in the same timespan as the training montage. Of course, since the series is also one of the longest Disney+ Marvel programs so far, it is entirely possible Jen’s journey will catch up to the relative MCU present (late 2024 or early 2025) before its first season ends. With the first episode of She-Hulk finally out in the wild, let’s take a look at some of the things its jokes and passing references clarified about the MCU and the series’ place within it. The sense of time is important as it suggests the sort of well-known Marvel characters Jen might encounter as the series continues.

And the balance of living as something you are not and hiding in fragments of shame felt like the episode’s antagonist. The screenplay illustrates the challenges of living as a woman in this day and age, most noticeable in the bar scene later on. However, the camera pans to show her office, which is clean and uncluttered, and her law degree is on the wall in the back, proudly displaying her qualifications. And the confluence of these two modes has made Jennifer Walters into an extremely rare sight in pop culture: a highly feminine character who still gets to be incredibly smart, incredibly strong, incredibly confident, and incredibly funny. Slott’s series wasn’t exactly about the different ways women move through the world based on physical appearance or fame, but it was about Jen learning to feel proud of herself even when she wasn’t 7 feet tall and bench pressing a truck. And it’s the mixture of these two modes that the creators of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law chose for their series. Her first case was to prove that a corporation owed damages to an employee who was given superpowers in a laboratory accident. But in 1989, something would happen to her that would cement Jennifer Walters into the fundament of Marvel Comics forever. It would be the mid-2000s before another writer would come along and give her a new dominant mode: The superhero world’s foremost legal mind. [Hulk’s journey in the MCU](https://gamerant.com/incredible-hulk-fan-theory-movie-mcu/), fans assume that Walters is going through a similar scenario, where she is unable to control her anger. Wanda Maximoff finally got a standalone show with WandaVision, but the studio immediately decided to turn her into a villain in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. She goes on to highlight that if women do otherwise, they are often referred to as “emotional or difficult,” another comment on the Even in the more developed countries, the gender gap in the labor forces is still quite substantial, with many women leaving work after childbirth. However, when her cousin decides to run experiments on her in his hidden lab in Mexico, Walters proves that isn’t the case, and she is conscious every time she turns green. An independent woman is often viewed as a threat in society and the professional world. The reason behind this difference is the fact that she is a woman, which isn’t a comment on her physical strength or appearance, but rather highlights the struggles of women in the real world. Walters, on the other hand, seems to be more in control from the get go. Women are often asked to hold back or compromise their own feelings to ensure that those around them have the space to grow. “I think my boyfriend is here,” Walters says, a statement that many women have used in the real world to escape a harrowing situation. And from the first episode, “She-Hulk” does not shy away from addressing how women like Jen live with constant pressure to control their rage and fear in a way that men like Banner do not have to. “What I love about our show is that we’re taking the time to really just turn the camera a little bit to the left and see what’s going on in [their] everyday life.” “In so many things, even when they have loving friends, someone’s stabbing someone in the back at some point, and it’s so unnecessary,” says Gonzaga. One of the things about the Disney+ series that struck Mark Ruffalo, quoting head writer Jessica Gao, is “how horny-forward [the story] is” compared to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he shares with a laugh.

She-Hulk's first post credit scene answered the biggest question ... (For The Win)

She-Hulk's post credit scene just answered one of the biggest questions people had about Captain America.

We think maybe there was a spark there with Natasha Romanov. Not sure who it was or when it happened, but apparently he told Bruce Banner that it actually happened. Apparently, it was with someone on a 1943 USO tour back in his heyday. And, clearly, there was something there with Sharon Carter — the niece of the love interest he left behind in the past. This has easily become one of the most divisive (and hilarious) debates about MCU canon. “CAPTAIN AMERICA FUUUUUU-.” And there we have it, y’all.

'She-Hulk' director Kat Coiro has been smashing rules since the ... (Inverse)

The director of micro-budget dramedies and rom-coms enters the MCU with 'She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.' She's making sure everyone is taking notice.

“The fact she is a reluctant superhero is what makes her interesting,” Coiro explains. “Strip away everything else, you’re looking at a story about a woman in her 30s,” she says. “I was coming off of working with Jennifer Lopez, who is a bit of a superhero,” Coiro jokes. It’s also about a female superhero who does not want to be one because being a woman in the modern world is already a life-threatening challenge on its own. “I was pregnant, so I was like, ‘I’ve got to crank this out before I have this baby,’” she says. “I choose everything based on character,” she says. For Coiro, making films with shoestring budgets came with “so many compromises,” which resulted in a frustrating juxtaposition between the work put in versus the work displayed. I realized I was in love with the process of storytelling, not just acting. “As a director, I’ve always felt like my job is to disappear and not take up attention,” Coiro says. To Coiro, Hollywood was “not a part of my life growing up at all,” she says. “It was a very raucous place,” Coiro remembers with fondness. “I was a very studious young child who just wanted to sleep early.

And so a lot of the feminism of She-Hulk feels a little too pat — of course the sexist co-worker’s slights are things like “more smiles,” and the bad bros she runs into just a little too clear about how much her femininity is what irks them. [several decades of comics](https://www.polygon.com/23311380/she-hulk-free-comics-marvel-qr-code-link), and it’s telling that She-Hulk’s iterations fall in line with a more conventionally attractive body type. That the show is able to address the undercurrent of anger that comes with feminism is a step toward acknowledging rage as merely a valid response to a world that is broadly inhumane, in ways big and small, to women every day. It’s a double-edged sword that the creators behind She-Hulk know too well. “Those are like the baseline of any woman just existing.” It’s a point she’ll hit harder later in the episode, after weeks of training to be dexterous and zen so as to not accidentally Hulk out. [She-Hulk: Attorney at Law](https://www.polygon.com/23291038/she-hulk-creators-disney-vfx-union) makes its thesis statement about 13 minutes into its first episode: When Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) tells his cousin — newly Hulked, thanks to an accident — Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) that the triggers are anger and fear, she scoffs.

'She-Hulk: Attorney At Law' Episode 1 Easter Eggs You May Have ... (Collider.com)

She-Hulk introduces Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), cousin of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and attorney at law who has the unique ability to break the fourth ...

For the first time since the Avengers films, Bruce refers to Hulk as "the Other Guy" to explain how crucial it is that Jen gets control over her hulk side. After a long day of training, Bruce and Jen go to Bruce’s Bar and bond over a couple, several, drinks in Hulk form. The situations he gives to Jen range from The Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Thor: Ragnarok, which all feature iconic moments of Hulk to Bruce transformations. While we have all enjoyed these moments as audience members, it’s fun to be reminded of the events through Bruce as he shares them from his perspective. Raising and lowering his hands, Bruce speaks in a low voice to get Jen to emerge. Feeling confident about her ability to maintain consciousness as She-Hulk, Bruce reminds Jen that she still can’t control how and when she transforms. Though he tried to play it cool, Bruce definitely welled up at the mention of Bing-Bong, and who can blame him? Sakaar is the planet that Hulk landed on after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it is where the majority of Thor: Ragnarok is set. Jen suggests putting on a Pixar movie, citing the tear-jerking moment from Inside Out when Bing-Bong jumps out of the wagon to save Joy from being lost forever. While we learn later that Jen’s experience is much different from Bruce’s and that she has already refined her anger to use at will, at this moment, Bruce hopes to determine a threshold to give Jen an upper hand. It’s also a callback to Avengers: Age of Ultron when Tony posed the question to Bruce, “What if you were sipping margaritas on a sun-drenched beach, turning brown instead of green, and not looking over your shoulder?” Considering the majority of all Phase Four projects have taken place post-blip, there are five years of time that have been unexplored for the surviving Avengers and She-Hulk’s first episode does a great job at giving us a glimpse of how Bruce spent that time. She-Hulk introduces Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), cousin of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and attorney at law who has the unique ability to break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience.

[Marvel Studios' She-Hulk: Attorney at Law](https://thedirect.com/tags/she-hulk-series/) drops new episodes on Thursdays on Disney+, with the next one arriving on Thursday, August 25. In Episode 1 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, it's revealed that Bruce Banner has his own little hideaway in a remote portion of Mexico. All's well that ends well though, because the brawl eventually dies down, with Bruce recognizing that Jen has far greater control over her powers than he himself did for a long time. He has gone from a giant, rage-filled brute with a propensity for large-scale destruction to the quieter, more reserved Smart Hulk, a fusion of both the Banner and Hulk halves. It's in the premiere episode that audiences learn quite a bit about how the Hulk actually works and what triggers transformations.

He’s probably a virgin. “Our philosophy was really just like let’s just do things until they tell us we can’t because if you start asking for permission too much, then you’re giving people a chance to say no,” she said.
