Chelsea agree £23.5 million fee with RB Leipzig to sell Timo Werner (SPORTbible)

Chelsea have agreed to sell Timo Werner to RB Leipzig for a fee of £25.3 million, it has been reported.

"It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup. I think it doesn’t change anything whether it is a winter World Cup or in the summer.” And now, as revealed by Sky Germany, Werner will be getting this at RB Leipzig, with the German club agreeing a fee with Chelsea for the striker. Werner admitted last month that he could be happier away from Chelsea as the forward appears to now be getting his wish, and a return to the Bundesliga.

Some reports claim that the initial fee may be only €20m (plus bonuses), which is less great but again, it is what it is. According to multiple reports, Werner’s set to return to Leipzig for perhaps as much as €30m, which is still half of what we paid in 2020. (Though technically the first time involved a buyout so there’s wasn’t much, if anything to really negotiate.)

Timo Werner set to rejoin RB Leipzig from Chelsea in deal worth up ... (ESPN)

Timo Werner is on the brink of leaving Chelsea to rejoin RB Leipzig, sources have told ESPN.

He has scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea and although Tuchel is thought to be reluctant to part with the forward given the wider pressure to strengthen the squad, there is recognition the midseason World Cup has heightened the player's fears over a lack of regular action. Werner started well, scoring eight goals in his first 12 games up to mid-November, but managed just four more for the rest of the campaign as a loss of form and confidence set in. The 26-year-old is expected to arrive in Germany for a medical ahead of a permanent move thought to be worth in the region of €30 million, although various performance-related add-ons are yet to be finalised.

Chelsea's Timo Werner Set to Rejoin RB Leipzig, per Report (Sports Illustrated)

The German international scored 78 goals in 127 appearances for Leipzig before moving to Chelsea in 2020.

His breakout season in 2019-20 aligned with a historic Leipzig campaign. Meanwhile, reports around England suggest that Werner may have fallen out of favor with manager Thomas Tuchel despite the departure of forward Romelu Lukaku potentially clearing the way for playing time in a World Cup year. In four seasons with Leipzig, Werner rose to stardom with 78 goals in 127 appearances.
