British Airways suspends the sale of short-haul flights from Heathrow (CNBC)

BA has suspended short-haul flights after Heathrow asked airlines to reduce passenger numbers because of "ongoing challenges" facing the industry.

Barcelona's airport has "no intention" to cap passenger numbers during the summer, according to a spokesperson, as "the cancellation or suspension of flights is the responsibility of the airlines." The country's second-biggest airport, Munich, is in a similar position and told CNBC there are "neither plans nor intentions" to reduce its passenger numbers. "The purpose of setting a maximum is to ensure the safety of passengers and employees and to create a reliable process at the airport," the airport said in a statement. A spokesperson from Germany's largest airport, Frankfurt am Main, told CNBC there "are no plans to cap the numbers of passengers or flights" but there is "constant and intensive exchange with [its] partners at Frankfurt Airport to be best prepared for the ongoing summer traffic." The U.K.'s second-biggest airport, Gatwick, told CNBC that it would be "up to airlines to cancel or suspend flights" but it was currently "unaware of any airlines planning similar moves." In a statement Tuesday, the airline said the move was taken in response to Heathrow's cap on passenger numbers.

BA restricts sales for Heathrow short-haul flights for rest of summer (The Guardian)

BA cancelled more than 10,000 summer flights last month but will not be removing any further departures from the schedule under the new plans, and no existing ...

This resulted in an unacceptable increase in delays to get planes on to stand, bags not travelling with passengers or being delivered very late to the baggage hall, low departure punctuality and some flights being cancelled after passengers had boarded. Over 1 million people took flights in the airport’s busiest period for departures since Christmas 2019, with New York, Los Angeles and Dubai the main routes. It said the measures would protect existing bookings and help manage any disruption due to other factors, such as adverse weather or air traffic restrictions.

Heathrow has been the frequent scene of travel mayhem this summer, with long lines for security and technical glitches with the baggage system that resulted in huge piles of lost and unclaimed luggage. Passenger traffic at Heathrow and other European airports has boomed after two years of pandemic travel restrictions, but airports and airlines haven't been able to keep up because they laid off many thousands of staff amid the depths of COVID-19. LONDON (AP) - British Airways said Tuesday that it's suspending sales of short-haul flights from London's Heathrow Airport for about a week, a response to the airport's request to limit bookings to help ease travel disruptions caused by booming demand and staff shortages.

More travel chaos: British Airways has suspended short haul flight ... (Time Out)

The airline has capped short haul flights until next week. So how could if affect your holiday?

And even if you didn’t plan on flying with BA, it’s likely that the ticket sale cap will lead to increased prices elsewhere. The cap is being enforced by Heathrow in an attempt to limit passenger numbers. BA’s cap only impacts the airline’s own short-haul routes from Heathrow, meaning it’ll likely affect flights of less than three hours in length. And over the past few days, things have gotten even more confusing. No doubt you’ll have quite a few questions about BA’s ban on short-haul sales. Across pretty much all of Europe, it’s been a chaotic summer for airports and airlines.

British Airways Extends Flight Sale Suspension For Another Week (Simple Flying)

British Airways has now stopped selling tickets on domestic and short-haul European flights from Heathrow until August 15.

"It is the airport, it is us for sure, it is air traffic control, it's the providers. British Airways (and Heathrow) argue that reducing the number of passengers passing through the airport will help smooth out operations and improve reliability. With Tuesday now nearly over, there were around 200 delays out of LHR across the day and approximately 120 delays on flights into Heathrow. British Airways only had one last-minute cancellation at Heathrow but experienced 178 delays at the airport across Tuesday. But the move is also a clear signal from British Airways that they are responding to Heathrow's call to cap passenger numbers while simultaneously drawing attention to the airport's c urrent operational inadequacies. Instead, British Airways has simply stopped selling any remaining seats on these flights from Heathrow. Simple Flying understands most affected scheduled flights were almost full before the sales pause was implemented, so only a handful of seats on each flight were removed from sale. On Tuesday, British Airways confirmed that it would further extend that sales ban until August 15.

Can Pilots Leave The Cockpit Mid-Flight? (Simple Flying)

We take a look at the regulations surrounding pilots stepping out of the flight deck while flying.

That means for a flight crew that only consists of a captain and a first officer, if any one of the pilots wanting to leave the cockpit will have to call in a flight attendant. The need for a flight attendant is eliminated if a flight engineer is already present on the flight deck. When an aircraft is airborne, virtually everything a pilot needs to do can be done from the cockpit.

The jet-tracking teen stopped tweeting Mark Cuban's flights for free ... (CNBC)

Jack Sweeney turned down $5000 to stop tracking Elon Musk's airplane flights. Here's why the teen stopped tracking Mark Cuban's private jets for free.

Sweeney says he hopes to eventually monetize his Twitter accounts, potentially by turning his personal website into an all-in-one celebrity flight tracker or finding a way to offer carbon offsets for some of the flights he tracks. It appears Sweeney has held up his end: The account, which he designed as a bot that updates automatically, hasn't tweeted since April, and its bio says that its code has been disabled. And since he started his side hustle in June 2020, he says he's only agreed to a single "stop tracking me" request.
