Your passion is inspiring and an indispensable part of the Festival. The second set of awards is for the highly anticipated Show Garden Competition. This has always been a crowd favourite, with renowned, award-winning local and international landscape designers taking part. Across the island, we now have over 1,800 community gardens and nearly 2,200 allotment garden plots in 25 Parks. I am confident that the Festival will further galvanise this growing interest in community gardening. Singapore Botanic Gardens is the site of Singapore’s earliest garden and flower shows. The previous edition of the Festival in 2020 was unfortunately cancelled because of COVID-19. But one silver lining is that during the pandemic, many of us developed a newfound appreciation for our green spaces. It is a wonderful garden, and our first UNESCO World Heritage site. For some plant therapy, simply head to Singapore Garden Festival 2022 in the heart of town. This year, Singapore Garden Festival is held at a new location – Orchard Road. This is particularly significant as Orchard Road used to be home to fruit orchards, nutmeg plantations and pepper farms back in the 1830s. It is extremely challenging to design the landscapes as all the displays have to withstand the elements in hot and humid Singapore. They can also play detective with animals, and shoulder the temporary responsibility of owning a pet. Did you know that Singapore Garden Festival is amongst the top flower and garden shows internationally? Also at the Bukit Timah Core is a Flower Field with sunflowers and other flowers like periwinckles and snapdragons.
