Considering his love and adoration for Liverpool, it's worth keeping an eye on the Zambian this season. Last season, Daka enjoyed a commendable debut campaign with Leicester City, scoring 11 goals and registering 5 assists in 38 appearances. Which would leave Julian Ward with the difficult task of replacing another Liverpool legend next summer.

Three transfer sagas prove Liverpool are market kings as 'done deal ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool had their transfer business for 2022 effectively done and dusted by 21 June. As Chelsea and others flounder, FSG remain firmly on top of the pile.

Liverpool have been embroiled in their own sagas in the past, of course, but in recent windows they have operated with impressive efficiency. They are kings of the transfer market. If only the same could be said for Chelsea and co. That presented Barcelona with an opportunity to swoop in, and by the time the Blues had changed their minds once again and tried to resurrect the deal, Koundé was bound for the Nou Camp in a £42m deal. In all of these cases, there is a lack of conviction. But by then, the Reds had already swooped for his replacement.

Liverpool team vs Strasbourg predicted as future pairing tested and ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool take on Strasbourg at Anfield this evening in the final game before the season begins. Curtis Jones will be among those looking to prove himself.

The Brazilian is back in training, and could probably play if he had to, but Klopp will rightly consider it pointless to take any risks at all in a pre-season game. Naturally, it is easier to experiment in this manner in pre-season, but the new contract for Gomez this summer proves that Liverpool still have faith in the long-term plan. Of course, it’s early days, but it looks like there will be more of a concerted effort to bed in this pairing of the future wherever possible this season.

What did they do in the Community Shield, and where did it come from?” Yesterday, that other players fill in as Henderson is substituted off, clearly shows this is a deliberate team strategy this season. At the elite level, every little helps. Jordet: “Liverpool maintains their TEAM approach to penalty kicks from last season, where they insulate & protect their penalty taker from potential opponent mind games. Finally, Thiago escorts the City players away.” Jordet: “Other times, Henderson has led a concerted strategy where players took on different roles.

Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City: Community Shield Player Ratings (Sports Illustrated)

Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium to give Jurgen Klopp his first taste of victory in the Community Shield.

More Hendo shuffles, please. Came on for Trent and gave a calmness when Liverpool needed it. Did what he had to do, which James Milner usually does. Elliot took the ball at every opportunity, linking up well with Mohamed Salah. This could be his season. The Uruguayan won the penalty which took The Reds into the lead, and then went on a scored the third. His drive and speed are always a threat and kept the Manchester City defence on their toes. Firmino was the only player that failed to impress yesterday. The definition of smooth. Much more like it from the Liverpool captain. Fabinho - 7/10 Flying down the wing, linking up with Luis Diaz and still being solid in defence. Despite Pep Guardiola's side responding in the second half, the victors managed to regain and then extend the lead.

'In good shape' - Hendo and Robbo assess win over Man City (Liverpool FC)

Liverpool can take 'a lot of positives' from their FA Community Shield win into the new Premier League season, said Jordan Henderson.

It’s obviously the first game of the season and you only get here by being successful and a really tough game against a top opposition, but it’s always nice to win it. Obviously we’ve played in this twice before and failed on penalties twice, so it’s nice to kind of flip that and get the medal and win the trophy, of course it is. Obviously Mo’s penalty was fantastically executed as well so some really good moments, good goals in the game and overall I thought we deserved to win. It’s obviously the first proper game back so it was going to be intense; City are a fantastic team. We hadn’t won this trophy yet so it’s nice to do that, but after today we know we are going to enjoy it, but tomorrow we need to focus on next week, the start of the season and be prepared for that. I thought it was a good game.
