The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) banned websites and platforms that failed to register with it.

The ban these companies are facing right now is nationwide, and both privately owned and government-owned internet providers enforce it. According to Kominfo’s official website, major names like Google, Tencent and Roblox are already registered and continue to operate normally. The new law applies to both foreign and local companies.

Pangerapan also noted that the ban will be lifted once the companies register with the country’s database. A 2021 report from the digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) calls Indonesia’s laws “invasive of human rights,” as it puts platforms at the mercy of the Indonesian government, which will ban them if not in compliance with local laws. As noted by Reuters, the laws give the Indonesian government the ability to obtain data about specific users, as well as coerce companies into removing content that “disturbs public order” or is considered illegal.

Steam, Epic and other digital storefronts are currently banned in ... (VentureBeat)

A whole lot of digital companies are currently inaccessible from within Indonesia, because they didn't register with the government.

We want to tell you how the news matters to you -- not just as a decision-maker at a game studio, but also as a fan of games. Odds are that eventually all the big, important companies will register and fork over some money to Indonesia for the privilege. But if a company determines Indonesia isn’t worth the trouble, and they don’t register? If I lived in Indonesia I’d still technically own them, but I wouldn’t be able to access and play them. On Steam right now I have a library of several hundred titles. There’s a couple of things in there that seem like headscratchers.

There are criticism that such regulation may pose a threat to privacy and freedom of expression on the internet. However, it seems that Indonesia has managed to get big tech such as Meta, Google and Twitter to comply at the last minute. Social media platforms such as Facebook have been allowing misleading and scam ads targeting Malaysians on its platform and there’s virtually no action taken when users report them. If the platform fails to comply with the order, the government can order internet service providers to block access to it. Indonesia’s Communications and Information Ministry has imposed a blockade on eight digital platforms including Yahoo, Steam, Epic Games and PayPal after failing to comply with the country’s new licensing rule. Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network’s (SAFEnet) Nenden Arum said their analysis shows that this would be the most repressive regulation of its kind in the region.

Indonesia Blocks Steam, Epic Games, And Battle Net (GINX Esports TV)

The Indonesian government has officially blocked online platforms and services, Steam, Epic Games, and PayPal, over license breaches.

As long as the online platforms and services register their companies according to Indonesia’s licensing rule, they’ll be able to continue functioning, in which case Indonesians can resume accessing these services. On the contrary, the licensing law is understandable too. Recently, gamers across Indonesia have been devastated to discover that their government has officially blocked access to several online platforms.
