Former MP of Chua Chu Kang GRC and PAP member Alvin Yeo has passed away at the age of 60 after allegedly fighting an illness.

Having established himself in the legal fraternity, Mr Yeo joined politics and first served in Hong Kah GRC from 2006 to 2011. According to Mr Yam, the late Mr Yeo was the youngest ever Senior Counsel of the Supreme Court following his appointment at the age of 37 in 2000. Likening her predecessor to “a big brother”, Ms Low recalled how “kind and encouraging” the late Mr Yeo was to her when she first joined his GRC in 2011.

Alvin has served on a number of public committees that have conducted comprehensive reviews of the legal services sector. He is also an independent director of several listed companies in Singapore. His main practice areas are litigation and arbitration in banking, corporate/commercial and infrastructure disputes.

SINGAPORE - Lawyer and former member of parliament (MP) Alvin Yeo, died at home on Saturday morning (July 30) after a two-year battle with cancer.

Mr Chou added: "He had a very casual mannerism and everyone in the firm would call him 'Alvin', setting the tone for us at work. He successfully defended a claim over the seizure of shares in a mining company with more than US$1.5 billion in assets. He added: "I found out towards the end of 2020 that he was ill. We will miss him greatly." He was undergoing treatment then and yet he remained positive, saying that he looked forward to meeting up with a few of us in 2022 when he was fully recovered." Law firm WongPartnership, where Mr Yeo was the chairman and senior partner, announced his passing in a statement, saying it was mourning the passing of its co-founder.
