The Thunderbolts: A Super Team Unlike Any Other (Marvel Entertainment)

Who are the Thunderbolts? Read on to learn more about this group of supervillains masquerading as super heroes!

As they defeated supervillains like the Enclave and a new Masters of Evil team (a slight they took personally), their popularity skyrocketed, and they became New York City’s most beloved heroes in the absence of both the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. In return, the Thunderbolts went on one mission per team member on a rotating basis. Download the app on iOS and Android now! The addition of teenage super hero Jolt (Helen Takahama) to the team further solidified their trend towards true heroism, as the rest of the group was forced to keep up their disguises in private as well as in public. Most recently, the Thunderbolts served under Mayor Wilson Fisk during Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s DAREDEVIL (2019) series. They eventually reunited with Gold and then, ultimately, with Zemo and his new Master of Evil. The series culminated in Kobik’s self-destruction following the revelation she had changed Captain America’s history and turned him into a Hydra sleeper agent, which then led directly into the events of SECRET EMPIRE (2017). She tracked down the team and managed to talk some sense into some of her former teammates. Eventually, this operation was discovered by Hawkeye and the Avengers, who then convinced Ross to disband the team. He convinced the others to continue following him on two principles: that the public would never trust them again, and that the criminal underworld would never forgive them for their transgressions against them. After bowing in INCREDIBLE HULK (1962) #449, the Thunderbolts launched right into their own series with THUNDERBOLTS (1997) #1 by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley. Their secret identities remained a mystery until the very end of their oversized first issue, where Zemo laid out his villainous endgame. For the purposes of Zemo’s deception, these Masters of Evil took on new identities. Let’s take a look at the Thunderbolts’ past, present, and future!

Why Marvel's Thunderbolts Is the Perfect End for MCU Phase 5 (Den of Geek)

But first some recap: the first three Phases in the MCU were pretty self-explanatory. Each Phase came to an end with an Avengers movie (and maybe a comedic solo ...

It’s the nature of the Thunderbolts name that at least one member of the team will eventually realize that they’re on the wrong side of history and rebel. Captain America might represent our country’s potential, but by contrast, the Thunderbolts will be a dark take on what our government is capable of in the wrong hands. Thunderbolts is the government taking the concept and putting their tyrannical spin on it. Fittingly, in the comics, there were two major instances where the world had to survive without the Avengers. In the late ’90s, in the aftermath of the Onslaught comic bookevent, the Avengers and Fantastic Four simply vanished. Secret Invasion is coming up early on in Phase 5, and while it likely won’t directly follow the comic event of the same name, the aftermath can easily go the same way. The number of Avengers members who are still active in the field on Earth is enough to count on one hand, and they are certainly not teamed up in any meaningful way. The government, already showing that they’re shady when it comes to Captain America’s history, lied to Sam Wilson and got him to give up his potential run as the new Cap in order to instead give the shield to someone they approved of and could easily order around. Back in Captain America: Civil War, when the General “Thunderbolt” Ross was threatening the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords, Steve Rogers feared that it would lead to a Thunderbolts-like, government-controlled superhero team. So far, six movies and six Disney+ shows have been announced for this next phase of Marvel storytelling, concluding with Thunderbolts. Then Phase 6 will kick off with Fantastic Four and end with a double-shot of Avengers movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. While Phases 1-3 were packaged as the Infinity Saga, Phases 4-6 will be known as the Multiverse Saga. Phase 1 was about the creation of the Avengers. Phase 2 built on that and had the various Avengers come close to building a worldwide happy ending until their hubris got the best of them. Then again, it also makes a bit of sense when linking an era with no Avengers to a climactic Avengers doubleheader in Phase 6. Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this November. Phase 5 will quickly follow, starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February and Secret Invasion in Spring 2023.

Who Will Be in Marvel's Thunderbolts? (TV Guide)

Here's who we predict with be in antihero team-up movie Thunderbolts, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, and Tim Roth.

Starr, also known as Ghost, tangled with Scott Lang ( Paul Rudd) in Ant-Man and the Wasp, but she was in a lot of physical and emotional pain that was clouding her judgment. He never interacted with de Fontaine, but in the Thunderbolts comics, he's the leader of the group. Emil Blonsky first appeared in one of the earliest MCU movies, The Incredible Hulk, as an opponent to Bruce Banner with all the same powers because he got transfused with Banner's blood. He ended the show incarcerated in the Raft prison. Unfortunately for him, he was stripped of the title after he brutally publicly murdered a captured enemy. News that Thunderbolts was in development broke last month, but Feige officially confirmed the movie's existence on July 23.

Marvel Has Been Setting Up Thunderbolts For 6 Years (Screen Rant)

The earliest mention of a Thunderbolts movie in the MCU was back in 2018 when Ant-Man and the Wasp star Hannah John-Kamen mentioned she'd love for her character, Ghost, to appear in a Thunderbolts movie one day. Chatter continued to pick up in 2019 and through 2020, with it being rumored that a Thunderbolts movie was in development for MCU Phase 4, with Hulk nemesis The Leader allegedly set to be the main villain of the movie. Things really picked up for a potential Thunderbolts project in MCU Phase 4, however, which kicked off in early 2021. While the Thunderbolts news has seemingly come out of nowhere this summer, Marvel has been planting the seeds for the team in the MCU for a long time. Even in the MCU, however, the Thunderbolts movie has been set up for a few years now. Baron Zemo being one of the rare villains left alive by the end of his debut movie, 2016's Captain America: Civil War, hinted that Marvel didn't want to kill him off as they had future plans for him.
