Unchanged South Africa bat first in series decider (ESPNcricinfo.com)

England name same XI too as teams compete for series in at Headingley.

England also kept faith in the line-up that hasn't quite found its best form this summer, but has the chance to end their ODI campaign on a high nonetheless. His chanceless knock contained 10 fours, almost exclusively the product of supreme timing and placement, not least an angled push through the covers off Reece Topley that perfectly bisected two fielders. Both teams had named unchanged XIs following England's series-levelling win in another rain-affected contest at Old Trafford on Friday. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first on a warm day at Headingley, as both teams named unchanged XIs in their quest for an outright series win, with the contest locked at one game apiece.

England v South Africa: third ODI – live! (The Guardian)

England levelled the series at Old Trafford but who will take the deciding ODI at Headingley? Join Rob Smyth.

1st over: South Africa 5-0 (Malan 2, de Kock 3) Reece Topley has taken 11 for 76 in his last three ODIs, many of them with the new ball. de Kock glides his first ball for four and then clatters a filthy delivery to the cover boundary to bring up a high-class fifty from 39 balls. This is a quietly important game for an England team who have suffered a crisis of confidence in the last few weeks. 16th over: South Africa 97-1 (de Kock 58, van der Dussen 25) No real movement for Curran, so he is mixing things up. A week ago they bowed to the genius of Rishabh Pant at Old Trafford a week ago; today, they will hope for a better outcome against South Africa at Headingley. “I realise the obvious differences (footballers run a lot more for one), but the football World Cup has been moved from the Qatar summer. 17th over: South Africa 101-2 (de Kock 60, Markram 1) “Hi Rob,” says Julian Menz. “ I really wish Tanya’s article was open for comments, as I suspect even us club-level cricketers have suffered heat exhaustion at some point, and it is an extremely serious issue. 22nd over: South Africa 121-2 (de Kock 70, Markram 8) Moeen Ali returns to the attack. The forecast is a lot better from around 4pm, so there should still be scope for a shorter game. “It’s also a cause of much consternation at the mo with the powers that be, given it takes about five minutes to walk in and throw half a dozen warm up pitches on the mound. 21st over: South Africa 119-2 (de Kock 69, Markram 7) There was one ball remaining in the 21st over when rain stopped play. The finest exemplar of the power of the bullpen is here ( slightly whiffy language).

11:15 a.m: There's been a bit of shape early on for Topley and Willey early on, but the South Africa openers have progressed in fairly untroubled fashion. However, the surface looks good and it might be better to get close to an unbroken innings in first before conditions potentially bring Duckworth-Lewis into play. 10:30 a.m: The captains are out in the middle for the toss and Maharaj calls correctly. 11:40 a.m: End of the first powerplay and De Kock, after a couple of false starts in the series, is starting to motor. Showers are scheduled for the afternoon and that is something the captains will factor into their thinking at the toss. The leg-spinner responded by suckering the in-form Van der Dussen in a game of cat and mouse, which concluded with him clumping a catch to Bairstow on the midwicket fence. He's on to 37 and England will want to see the back of him soon. 12:22 p.m: In the 20 deliveries since Van der Dussen left us, South Africa have not hit a boundary, with Rashid and Curran putting the breaks on nicely. 10:10 a.m: Last time England were at Headingley, we found Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in swashbuckling form en route to dominant seven-wicket win over New Zealand. White-ball batting has proved a tougher task for both since. In a worst-case scenario, the teams need to be back out by 6:14 p.m. local time for the bare minimum of a 20-over thrash for England under Duckworth-Lewis conditions. It did mean having to contend with the tractor motoring around the outfield with a large rope to conclude the drying-up efforts. The rainfall already looks a touch lighter now the covers are on.

De Kock dazzles before rain ruins England v South Africa ODI decider (The Guardian)

The ODI series between England and South Africa was drawn 1-1 after the third match at Headingley was abandoned because of rain.

He now has runs under his belt, gliding 13 fours in wonderfully languid fashion, and a Headingley crowd that was hoping for more at least watched a gem of a player in full flow. As a new captain, just having that time to bed in and do that work around your players and with your coaches. Buttler stressed the need for players to start grabbing spots in his T20 World Cup starting XI. England have three Twenty20s against South Africa in the next week – starting in Bristol on Wednesday – to complete a run of 12 white-ball internationals in just 24 days. England, previously so dominant with the bat under Morgan, have been bowled out in all five ODI innings and missed a chance to reassert themselves here. And not just always in game mode, preparing for guys on the day.
