He broke into the England U21 set up as a direct consequence, too. "Well done, Djed - I did say you were Premier League or non-league," he replied. It's a privilege to be here. Djed Spence impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship last season, helping them reach the Premier League, but has now joined Tottenham in a deal that could rise to £20m with add-ons; Spence has signed a five-year contract until June 2027

Pros and Cons of Djed Spence at Tottenham this season (Cartilage Free Captain)

The reason for this is because Spurs, like any Premier League team, need to meet a homegrown quota for player registration for the upcoming season. The ...

But, Spence already has all the raw tools he needs to continue to develop at Spurs. And under Conte, he will be provided the meticulous platform that will give him the opportunity to work out some areas of his game and become more of a complete wingback. Spence already has the skillset to become a dominant wingback in a possession-based side that likes to dictate the tempo and figure out ways through opposing teams. At 21, Spence is still young but has a bevy of experience operating in the role he will be asked to play at Spurs. With Conte overseeing Spence’s development, he will be able to simplify what is asked of the youngster to get the most out of him. I would be much more pessimistic about Spence’s ability to transition immediately had his transfer gone on and on into the latter parts of the summer window. The England national team is loaded with RB/RWB talent, so while it will be hard for Spence to break into the team, it is imperative for Spurs’ player development and for future English young talents to see a youngster like Spence be considered at the international level while playing and improving at Spurs. And while they have drifted from that approach this offseason with some of their marquee signings being older, the Spence transfer certainly fits this mold. With the Premier League moving to five substitutes this summer, it will be more important than ever for Conte to have a stable of wingback options to choose from to keep up the intensity in his system throughout each game. At Spurs, Spence will now have the profile and the resources (both at the club and in the squad) for him to take the next step in his career. After all of the incomings for Spurs so far this summer, the focus now shifts to moving fringe players in the squad out, either on loan or on a permanent basis. And because a full squad is a maximum of 25 players, that means to field one, at least eight players have to be considered “homegrown,” i.e. trained at an association club for three years before turning 21. Spence was shipped out on loan to Nottingham Forest after a very well-known falling out with Neil Warnock, who was the ‘Boro gaffer at the time.

Tottenham Hotspur new boy Djed Spence has explained what he will bring to his new club after completing his move from Middlesbrough as Josh Oluwayemi ...

It represents an exciting transfer change by Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici – and is a far cry from the position Spurs found themselves in last summer. In 21-year-old Spence, it is quite possible the club have exactly this. The 21-year-old full-back sealed his move to Antonio Conte's side on Tuesday in a deal which could eventually be worth £20million with add-ons.

Antonio Conte admits club wanted Djed Spence but he greenlit deal ... (Football.London)

The Tottenham Hotspur boss has admitted that the club wanted to sign the Middlesbrough wing-back and he agreed to the signing.

"When I arrived in November, I said that if we wanted to try to go up in the table, we would have to go together, to improve the team together, but at the same time, the players have to go to another level. In the first season, we reduced the gap and in the second season, we won but in Italy, there was only one team to fight. To improve in all the situations that can bring us to be competitive shortly." "You know, football is always very strange, but in this moment I’m very happy to stay at Tottenham, I’m very happy to work with this group of players, to work with the club," he said. Then Manchester, Liverpool… Liverpool, Manchester. Also that competition is very difficult but we have to know that we want to continue to build and we have seven months of work. I think we are trying to create a solid foundation, then to go step by step to improve and then in the end to fight for something important." Then I have a group of players that need to have ambition together and to go another step," he stepped. "Many people said to me they were surprised by the timing, but when the vision is clear I feel confident and then I go to train and try to improve the team and the squad. "If, then, in only one year and seven months we are able to do something very special, I am the first to be very happy. When you go into the transfer market you try not to waste money, but if you decide to invest money and I think, up until now, we invested the right money," he said. "Now we want to improve and I think it was very important to sign players like Bentancur and Kulusevski in January because in January four players went on loan and then we signed two players. "We have to know for sure it’s not simple because in England in this moment there are three teams that in the previous season finished in front of us.

'The club decided to buy him' – Antonio Conte admits Tottenham ... (talkSPORT.com)

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has admitted Djed Spence was a 'club' signing rather than his own.Spurs' busy summer continued as they made their sixt.

“It’s a privilege to be here. To grow together with ambition. “For the club, it has not been simple to go into the transfer market and sign players for free — like Perisic and Forster — and sign players on loan — like Lenglet — and sign players with money — like Richarlison and Bissouma and Spence.”

Conte: Djed Spence was a “club” signing, but he still wants him at ... (Cartilage Free Captain)

If you follow Tottenham Hotspur news primarily through social media, you might have been made aware of some “troubling” comments made recently by Antonio ...

But if you’re one of the fans who expected Spence to ride in on a stallion and instantly cement a place in Tottenham’s starting XI, you might want to take a half-step back or so, because Conte has admitted that he’s not a player like Ivan Perisic that he targeted to make an immediate impact. Spence might very well explode onto the scene the way Dele did a few years ago, but he might not. Tottenham social media “doomerism” is obnoxious and those using Conte’s comments on Spence as a cudgel against the club hierarchy that brought him in is reductive and unfair. We’ve hinted on this website before that Spence’s stats, while gaudy for the championship, don’t appear to be especially indicative that he’s going to be an impactful player in the Premier League next season. But as we know, social media is extremely unreliable as a filter for the comprehension of public comments. That said, Antonio Conte has firmly established himself as the final arbiter when it comes to Tottenham’s first team.

Antonio Conte can repeat Ryan Sessegnon trick with Djed Spence's ... (Football.London)

Djed Spence became Tottenham's sixth signing of the summer and he may already have a head start to settling into his new team, with the help of Ryan ...

Spence still has a couple of weeks to settle in, before the 2022/23 campaign begins and he will be looking to impress. Not only can Sessegnon help the former Forest loanee settle in, the duo play in the same position, albeit on different flanks, and both have an older member of the team to battle for their spot with. "I bring excitement, skill, speed, I just want to excite the fans and play well," he admitted. The duo are the same age and already have experience of playing together, which Spence touched on, in his first interview as a Spurs player. "Spence is an investment of the club," he explained. Forest didn’t come in for him, nobody else came in for him, Tottenham were the only show in town."

I can't wait to meet the players, the staff and obviously the manager and train with the team. "I'm thankful I'm here and I've got the opportunity to play for the club. The deal that sees Spence arrive from Championship side Middlesbrough could eventually be worth £20million, once you include add-ons and when certain criteria have been met.
