LIVE Transfer Talk: Barcelona tell Frenkie de Jong to join Man Utd in ... (ESPN)

Barcelona have told Frenkie de Jong he must go to Old Trafford so new players can be brought to Camp Nou. Transfer Talk is LIVE with the latest.

The north London side are yet to make a formal offer for the Brazil international. However, after being excluded from pre-season selection, the Denmark international will look to leave this transfer window, with Brentford and Real Sociedad already expressing interest in the forward. United are set to sign the Argentina international after agreeing a fee of around €55 million. PSG sporting director Luis Campos has reportedly spoken to the player's father, former France great Lilian Thuram, about a move. I come to a club full of history and prestige, so I'm going to prepare myself in the best way to win many things together. He recently bought a house in Pedralbes, the most sought-after area of Barcelona and has no plans to leave the city any time soon. We are trying to create a new generation and that takes time. Dest has won just a single trophy since joining Barca in October 2020, a period that has seen the club endure significant financial turmoil. Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, met with Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly, who has since discussed the proposal with head coach Thomas Tuchel. Sources have confirmed to ESPN that while Tuchel has huge admiration for Ronaldo, he would prefer to pursue other options to strengthen their attack. I believe we are going to have a great season. The Catalan side have been unable to register new signings Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Raphinha due to financial fair play restrictions. The Argentina international is under contract with the Friuli outfit through June 2026.

Confirmed Manchester United Line-Up: Anthony Elanga Starts vs ... (SPORTbible)

Manchester United have confirmed Erik ten Hag's line-up to face Melbourne Victory in pre-season, after they smashed Liverpool 4-0.

Erik ten Hag will be hoping by the time United play Brighton in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season, the squad will be fully prepared following their pre-season tour. Coming off the back of an impressive first public outing for Erik ten Hag’s United team against Liverpool, the team will be hoping they can continue to build momentum ahead of the 2022/23 season, so they can hit the ground running in their first Premier League game against Brighton on the 7th of August. It is highly likely that Ten Hag will largely rotate his team at half-time in a similar fashion to the Liverpool game, allowing the majority of players to get a healthy number of minutes on their belts.

1 hour 30 mins to KO: Manchester United providing an early glimpse of the stadium. Harry Maguire starts and reclaims the captain's armband. Fair chance a completely different team will start the second half. Victory conceded a league-low 25 goals from 26 games last season in the A-League Men. The Brazilian scored a stunning chip last time out against Liverpool but this one never looked destined for goal. 34th minute: Martial beats a number of players in the final third but eventually gets overwhelmed in the box. Frustration building for the Red Devils. Not using the width well enough early on. The resulting corner is claimed easily enough by Victory's keeper. Ten Hag won't be happy with that first-half showing though with his side often too slow in the final third and looking fragile when defending Victory's counter attacks. Marcus Rashford is now donning the captain's armband for the Red Devils. 43rd minute: Goal! McTominay pulls United level via a deflected effort.

So, with that being the case, Express Sport has decided to get a little creative… If De Jong does move to United, he’ll become the latest player to turn out for both the Red Devils and Barcelona. But United remain confident they can get a deal over the line and that the 25-year-old is open to a new challenge in Manchester. They can’t offer De Jong that same bait, either, with the Red Devils due to be strutting their stuff in the Europa League. That development came after the Red Devils had sent Richard Arnold and John Murtough out to Catalonia in order to broker a deal.

Manchester United made it two wins from two games on Tour 22, as Erik ten Hag's side came from behind to defeat Melbourne Victory by four goals to one.

Former Reds winger Nani was then introduced with just a few minutes to go, making his debut for the hosts seven years after his departure from Old Trafford. Fred's goal was the only difference when the two sides met at Old Trafford last December, and attention now turns to next week's pre-season showdown. Then, just moments before the break, the Reds went ahead. The scoring was then completed with just minutes remaining, when Edmond Lupancu diverted a Tahith Chong cross into his own net to make it 4-1, ensuring a second pre-season win for our new Dutch boss. With 15 minutes to go, United had a third, as Eric Bailly burst forward to feed Rashford. The England international nudged his effort beyond Izzo, and opened his Tour 22 account in the process. Zidane Iqbal showcased his talents with a superb piece of skill, as the Reds continued to dominate possession.

Much debate was had about his future but Sir Alex made a decisive move for a player who had grown up with the enemy at Liverpool. The fact he took on Cristiano Ronaldo's no.7 jersey showed the manager was not worried about any of that, saying: "He'll give us experience in the penalty box. The decision disappointed Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill but Sir Alex had been impressed with somebody who caught his eye when he was believed to be scouting Vincent Kompany during a Champions League tie with Anderlecht at Parkhead. "Our relationship with Celtic has always been a good one," stressed Ferguson. "We took Brian McClair in exactly the same end-of-contract circumstances before the Bosman ruling came in. We tried to get Karim Benzema but, as soon as that dropped through, we went for Michael." That was evident early in his Reds career, when he scored a memorable injury-time winner in the Manchester derby, and he finished with 17 goals in 52 outings, including a strike in the League Cup final against Aston Villa. He also helped United win the league in 2010/11, something he had failed to manage at Anfield. However, he was later allowed to join Middlesbrough on a free transfer.Every pre-season game, including Tuesday's match against Crystal Palace, will be shown Fortunately, his output matched his ego and his signing proved a masterstroke, as he led the line superbly under Jose Mourinho. Like Cavani, he had left PSG and wanted to taste English football for the first time. "We were desperate to get him when Peter left because he was here when he was a lad but couldn't get a work permit," said the boss. The late Irish midfielder, who sadly passed away in 2018, failed to renew his contract with Celtic and signed a pre-agreement instead with United in January 2004, as was permitted under the Bosman ruling. However, injuries hampered his second campaign and he left this summer, with 19 goals in 59 matches to his name. The Dane's were big shoes to fill but Ferguson was convinced in the new man after agreeing a four-year contract. With Dean Henderson loaned to Nottingham Forest for the 2022/23 campaign, he could be hoping for more first-team exposure this term. Blanc played 75 times for the Reds and helped the team win the Premier League title in 2002/03. The stylish France international had been on United's radar for so long, even after appearing against Alex Ferguson's team for Montpellier during our successful European Cup Winners' Cup run in 1991.

Stam headlines 12 players United signed from Eredivisie clubs amid ... (United In Focus)

With Lisandro Martinez set to become Erik ten Hag's second signing, we take a look at Manchester United's previous Eredivisie signings.

Blind was signed by Van Gaal on deadline day in the summer of 2014 from Ajax, and he proved to be a decent option given his ability to play at left-back, centre-back and in centre-midfield. After arriving from PSV in 1998, Stam won three consecutive Premier League titles and was a key part of the Manchester United side that won the Treble in his first season at the club. A former Ajax youth player, Fosu-Mensah joined Manchester United as a 16-year-old in 2014 and made his first-team breakthrough at the club under his compatriot Van Gaal in 2015-16. Park quickly established himself as a cult hero in Manchester and he was a nailed on starter for Fergie in the big games due to his selfless running and qualities with and without the ball. What a piece of business this was from Sir Alex. After catching United’s attention with his performances for PSV, the South Korean legend was brought to Old Trafford in 2005. After making his debut in the crushing 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the League Cup under Louis van Gaal, the midfielder went on to make 75 appearances for the United first team.

Manchester United fans around the globe: Jeddah (The Athletic)

Andy Mitten is travelling through Asia while covering Manchester United's tour, stopping at various points along the way to speak to fans.

The Spanish Super Cup and the Italian Super Cup have been here. It was a dream to stand in the stadium. They have a plan and they are building. They have already invested sensibly and in a rather low-key way rather than splashing the cash and only buying big names like some thought they would. My friends at school focused on Saudi football and the rivalries here, and I like Al-Ittihad. Italian football was more popular than English football then. I wonder if Jose Mourinho would have had the same career if Porto had lost and he hadn’t won the Champions League. I also wonder where United would be if they’d stayed with Mourinho, a good manager for Manchester United who wasn’t backed properly. Adam: My greatest moment was Camp Nou in 1999 and watching that here — I remember those final few minutes like it was a film. Aziz: Twitter. I followed other United fans and journalists. It was hard to watch football here when I was that age. People like the team which was on top when they are young or with a star player. Adam: I’ve followed United since the ’96-97 season, when I was 10. I started to watch United regularly in 2001.

MANCHESTER UNITED aren't abandoning their transfer pursuit of Barcelona midfield maestro Frenkie de Jong.

Yet while they’ve agreed a fee with their La Liga counterparts, it’s still unclear if the 25-year-old will make the move to Old Trafford. "I will return to say goodbye to all the workers after the tour with Barca. Christensen has chosen to leave Chelsea to join Barcelona, with the Denmark international arriving on a free transfer. De Jong has travelled with the rest of the Barcelona squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, despite the club’s desire to jettison him. Barcelona need to register a host of new players and selling De Jong, really, is the only way they’re able to do that due to their financial situation. They agreed a fee with Barcelona just a couple of days ago, with the fallen Premier League giants prepared to pay £63million in order to bring the Netherlands international to the club.

New Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen arrives at Old Trafford with a wealth of experience and a number of titles - here is a look at his career ...

On Friday, it was announced that Eriksen had signed for United on a three-year contract. Eriksen is currently fourth on the all-time list of Denmark’s senior appearance makers and joint-fifth on men’s goal chart. Brentford signed him on January transfer deadline-day 2022 and he completed his extraordinary comeback to professional football against Newcastle in February. He will no doubt be hoping to add to that at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year. He was named as Tottenham's Player of the Season in his debut year for the club, in a campaign which also saw him bag a winner at Old Trafford against United in a 2-1 win for Spurs on New Year's Day 2014. In March 2010, he made his senior international debut against Austria, having already played for Denmark at several age groups, and in being selected for the World Cup in South Africa, he was the youngest player at the tournament.

Eriksen and United: The story so far (Manchester United)

It's taken a while for Christian Eriksen's path to lead him to United, but both player and club have plenty of history. Across his illustrious career, ...

Sir Alex Ferguson’s United made their debut in the Europa League in the 2011/12 tournament, and our first opponents in the competition were Ajax, featuring a young Eriksen who had just turned 20 two days before. Having signed for Brentford in January 2022, he again returned to Manchester in opposition colours in May of this year, playing the 90 minutes in United’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford. That was the Reds’ last home game of the 2021/22 season – now Eriksen will be making a quick return but this time, finally, in the colours of Manchester United. Thankfully for United, his next four visits to M16 with Spurs were nowhere near as fruitful, the Reds winning all four without conceding, although he was a central part of their 3-0 win at Old Trafford at the start of the 2018/19 season, laying on the Lucas Moura goal that put Spurs 2-0 up.

And as De Jong and his Barca teammates fly off to America to face ex United legend David Beckham’s side Inter Miami, the ongoing transfer saga is said to have “incensed many United fans”. While De Jong has openly said that he wishes to remain at the Camp Nou, it is reported that he is also willing to join his former boss at Old Trafford. And with Barcelona’s well documented financial troubles, The Mirror have said that De Jong is holding out on deferred wages from the La Liga side.

Frenkie de Jong's Barcelona or Manchester United dilemma (The Athletic)

The club Frenkie de Jong loves want him to leave. The one he appears wary of want to build a new era around him. What is a guy to do?

That Barcelona could not properly facilitate his talents across three seasons and four permanent managers is a pity. The Wolves winger was expected to receive proper remuneration this summer once a permanent move to Camp Nou was sorted out. De Jong does not want to leave Barcelona, whose head coach Xavi is thought to be ambivalent about losing such a unique talent. Two weeks after Demir got sent back to Austria, Barcelona academy kid turned Spain international Adama Traore was signed on loan by his hometown club — on lower-than-expected wages. There’s a devil on the club badge, but for De Jong, this should not be a choice between ruling in hell and serving in his footballing heaven. Ten Hag’s arrival does not erase the litany of lost talents at United — there is good reason to be wary, and a proper footballing vision needs to be pitched to convince De Jong. He is owed a sizeable amount of money by Barcelona. For all their financial turmoil, the Catalan club will have designs on winning the 2022-23 Champions League, while United will face a real test even qualifying for that competition in future seasons — even if De Jong does switch allegiances. De Jong made 59 appearances for Ten Hag across two seasons at Ajax, playing in a double pivot next to the vastly-experienced Lasse Schone and serving as the heartbeat of that 2018-19 side, who won the Dutch double and suffered Champions League heartbreak late on against Tottenham in the second leg of their semi-final. He is arguably a more complete player now than the one who left Luka Modric in a surprised heap during that 4-1 Ajax win at the Bernabeu four years ago, but he is also not the player who was advertised to Barcelona fans upon arrival in the subsequent transfer window, and so there is frustration. This is not ideal for De Jong, who had a goal of playing for Barcelona as a child and often holidayed in the Catalan city with his family before signing for them from Ajax in his homeland three years ago. This is a player who helped put Real Madrid and Juventus to the knockout-phase sword in that thrilling 2018-19 Champions League campaign where Ajax got within moments of making the final, and who was once discussed as a possible successor to Sergio Busquets at Camp Nou. Netherlands midfielder De Jong is in a strange position where his football ability is less important than the softer intangibles needed in Barcelona’s strange squad building (club and country team-mate Memphis Depay is in a similar boat). He is most useful to his current club as a sellable asset and an €85million (£72.2m, $85.7m) agreement with United should take the Dutchman to Old Trafford — provided he both relents on his dream of Barcelona and agrees personal terms with his new prospective employers.

Manchester United's dream transfer window with seven signings ... (Daily Express)

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Erik ten Hag will want to put Brighton to the sword in their Premier League opener on August 7.

And three more players may follow the trio to Old Trafford by the time they face off against Graham Potter’s side. If all goes to plan, Manchester United will have signed six players by the time they face Brighton in their opening match of the new Premier League season on August 7. “It is clear that he is a fantastic coach. Martinez is set to join United, too, with the Argentina international jetting in to Manchester after a fee was agreed with Ajax. “I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.” “I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling.
