Russian foreign minister accuses the west of frenzied criticism over his country's invasion of Ukraine.

At a plenary session, the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, urged Moscow to let Ukrainian grain out to the world. But a meeting in Bali between Lavrov and the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, did not lead to any immediate breakthrough. She left a Foreign Office official, Sir Tim Barrow, to represent the UK. He said some of the speeches were made for theatrical effect, citing Boris Johnson as a prime example. We’ve heard quite a few such things today,” he said while describing the speeches made by his western counterparts. He walked out when the German foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, started to speak.

Wang's G20 Meetings Highlight China's Ukraine Messaging (The Diplomat)

China remains committed to reshaping the global order with Russia, and Beijing knows developing countries are the key to that effort.

One has only to look at a map of the countries that abstained from U.N. resolutions condemning Russia for the invasion to see this pattern in action. Second, Wang denounced “double standards” on sovereignty and territorial integrity. During that meeting, Wang expounded on China’s “three concerns over the situation in Ukraine,” which China’s Foreign Ministry released as a separate readout. Wang didn’t specify what this “interference” was, but the implication is that Beijing is proud of its commitment to uphold ties with Moscow, despite pressure from the West. Ukraine only received a brief mention in the Chinese readout, which said Lavrov had discussed the current situation and Russia’s position. Things did not go particularly well — Lavrov walked out of the G-20 meeting altogether on Friday, complaining that Western governments were only interested in “frenzied” criticism of Russia.

We can work together to avert the crisis in food security and to meet the challenge of climate change. Australia believes that we, as members of the G20, must work to strengthen our multilateral cooperation. It is also a profound breach of trust. A world that is peaceful, predictable and where sovereignty is respected. And I commend Ministers for working with Minister Marsudi to come together in support of Indonesia's Presidency and to ‘recover together, recover stronger. They breach this trust.

Otherwise, in the short term, even as we make the energy transition, coal will remain a big portion of baseload production of energy. Photo Credit: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore The second point is we need to keep our borders open; we need to resist the temptation of protectionism. Without a significant increase in food technology and yields, we will not be able to overcome the shortage. Let us just let the food flow. In fact, it is the powerless, the weak and vulnerable that bear a disproportionate share of the suffering. Thank you, Ibu Retno. Thank you again for this opportunity to participate today. Whatever justifications we have heard today, they do not justify this full and frontal violation of the pillars of the UN Charter. And this, for a tiny city-state, represents a profoundly inimical development on the security, survival and prosperity of all small states, which likewise would depend on international law. But we are now facing a perfect storm – pandemic, war, energy crisis, bifurcated world, superpowers. Respect for sovereignty and international law as well as dialogue and diplomacy are essential for peace and prosperity. They noted with concern rising inflation and growing food and energy insecurity which needs to be addressed comprehensively.
