Christian Bale says people laughed at him when he revealed he would be starring in a Batman movie that takes the Dark Knight seriously.

A good film is a good film. With that said, Bale theoretically would reprise that role, but only if it's The Dark Knight Trilogy helmer Christopher Nolan directing the film. And a good director is a good director. But otherwise a good story is a good story. I had tons of people laugh at me and just say, ‘Well, that’s just not going to work at all.' So it’s wonderful to be a part of a trilogy that proved those people wrong. Because Joel Schumacher's Batman films had been particularly campy, the actor says that people also thought that there was no way that audiences would be able to take the Dark Knight seriously again.
