Jay Chou has released a music video for his new single 'Greatest Works Of Art' that was shot in Paris and features Chinese pianist Lang Lang.

Last month, the Taiwanese Mandopop star had hinted at a new album in a vlog shot in Paris, teasing “old sounds” recorded with vintage instruments. The new music video, shared July 6, was directed by Chou himself. In the final seconds of the video, Chou appears to be performing and recording music while standing on the staircase of the Palais Garnier opera house.

Jay Chou's newest music video after two years 'Greatest Works of Art ... (Confirm Good)

After almost two years, Jay Chou has finally released is newest music video, 'Greatest Work of Art' shot in Paris!

You can watch the music video of Greatest Works of Art (which arguably, is also one of the greatest works of art this year) here. Instead, think of something more Chopin-esque. Here’s a fun little tidbit: the music video also has many scenes of the Mandopop King performing magic tricks as he goes about on his adventure back in time — another one of his favourite pastimes (as shown on his Netflix reality show, J-Style Trip).

It seems that the popular singer completed the filming between attending the Chanel cruise 2020 show and later Lang Lang's wedding in 2019.

It includes one piano intro and 11 songs, six of which are new, and the rest are singles Chou released in the past few years, such as “Mojito,” which is one of the most viral songs on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. As he starts playing, time shifts back to the 1920s, where he encounters local artists and their works in the era, including René Magritte, Salvador Dalí, Oscar-Claude Monet, and French-Chinese painter Sanyu. The department store reopened in June 2021 after a 16-year renovation.

In addition to gracing stages and music stations around Asia, he has also appeared in Hollywood movies such as The Green Hornet and Now You See Me 2, and served as the ambassador for Swiss luxury watchmaker Tudor. This new music video sees him back in the global spotlight, garnering over 109 million views on Weibo (plus 3 million on YouTube) within nine hours of being posted. After all, this wouldn’t be the first time Chou has called attention to a travel destination: his 2020 single “ Mojito,” which was filmed in Cuba, spurred a flurry of memes, tribute videos, articles, and mojito promotional deals, and even got a shout out from the Cuban Embassy in China in hope of attracting more Chinese tourists to the island. Ahead of the release, the Taiwanese singer-songwriter shared a music video for his latest single on July 6 titled “Greatest Works of Art,” which includes visual and lyrical references to famous artists such as Salvador Dalí, Monet, Matisse, Munch, and Van Gogh. Interestingly, the video opens and closes with a shot of the artist performing at La Samaritaine, an LVMH-owned department store in Paris that reopened last June after 16 years of renovations.
