Harmony Tan marches on after exposing Katie Boulter's weaknesses (The Guardian)

Frenchwoman reaches Wimbledon fourth round 6-1, 6-1 · Briton broken in first game and never gets into the match.

She refused to allow Boulter the same type of shot two times in a row and the British player sprayed errors and overhit as she searched for rhythm while forced to generate all of the pace on the ball herself. She managed her emotions admirably despite learning of the death of her grandmother after her first-round match. Charged with creating pace on the ball herself, unlike against Pliskova, and problem-solving against a tricky opponent competing at a consistently high level, Boulter looked out of ideas before the first set was finished. She brandished all of her variety once more, making Boulter uncomfortable by forcing her to move with drop shots, her backhand slice skidding low, and she swept to the net with ease. Afterwards Boulter described herself as “emotionally drained” after her efforts both at Wimbledon and over the course of the grass-court season having only just returned from injury. Never before had either Boulter or Harmony Tan reached the third round of a grand slam and only three ranking spots separated them, No 118 and No 115.

KATIE BOULTER is out of Wimbledon after losing in a one-sided match to Harmony Tan.

Tan now serving for the set. The 24-year-old with a brilliant challenge call to bring up three break points. Back-and-forth from both and Boulter hits a brilliant winner to bring up deuce. Tan hits wide though to give Boulter a chance at 30-30. Too easy again for the French tennis star. But Tan steps it up and holds serve. And the second followed in a similar fashion with Boulter winning just seven of 36 receiving points. “It was really emotional for the first round against Serena. And after, it was just playing match by match. She starts by winning a rare point on Tan's serve. I really like to play volleys - everything with my game. Court 2 still had fans squeezing in to try and catch a glimpse of Boulter with the Brit serving to stay in the match. I like grass.

Harmony Tan: World No. 115 who defeated Serena Williams is ... (The Indian Express)

After defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo and home favourite Katie Boulter, the Frenchwoman is now in the second week of a Major for the first time in her career.

She picked up the racquet more as a hobby and less as a passion. And then, after receiving one of the unluckiest draws of the year, she has made the second week of a Major for the first time in her career. For a player who started training to play tennis at an elite level from a young age, she has developed an inherent interest in surfing, and is even an esteemed classical pianist. Tan’s name was a part of headlines all over the world after she was drawn against Serena Williams in the first round at Wimbledon this year. Over three hours of tennis saw Tan edge an epic, and give her the chance to do better than she ever had before at the grass Major. What followed were solid and dominant straight-sets wins over 32nd seed Sara Sorribes Tormo, and big home favourite Katie Boulter to ensure her status as one of the bigger underdog stories in the women’s draw this year. She had been on the outside of the top 100 of the WTA rankings looking, played a handful of tour-level main draws, and had not made the quarterfinal of a single event she played.
