During investigations, he was uncooperative, retracted from his initial admission and provided contrived and incredulous responses to the police.” He felt that filming the victims ‘was an addiction’ to him.” on (a pornographic website).” She has self-esteem issues and feels ‘very unworthy’.” He also said that Chua was deeply apologetic for the hurt he had caused his victims. On Wednesday, the prosecution urged the court to sentence Chua to at least 13 months’ jail and a fine of $3,500. In their submissions, DPPs Tan and Ng Shao Yan said Chua’s offences had caused the victims prolonged psychological trauma, and they continue to grapple with the consequences of his conduct even to this day. DPP Tan had said in court last July: “In total, he estimated that the number of voyeuristic videos he (Chua) had filmed was ‘maybe three digits’. Among the two videos that were circulated online and the other 16 found in his devices, 14 were taken in his home. The gag order still remains on details that could lead to the identification of the victims, including their relationship with Chua and the name of his university, where he was enrolled in 2018. In early 2016, the principal of the junior college told this victim a clip of the incident had been circulating online and the police were alerted. Chua’s victims wanted his identity to be revealed and had pushed for the gag order to be lifted.

She also struggled with self-esteem issues and felt "very unworthy". Gag orders are usually applied to protect the identities of victims of sex offences. Colin Chua Yi Jin, 24, pleaded guilty in July last year to seven charges of insulting the modesty of women and an eighth charge of possessing obscene films. It had been viewed at least 38,000 times on Aug 17, 2020. He is sorry for what he has done, he has learnt his lesson," said the lawyer, adding that Chua "knows that he has a problem and he wishes to deal with it". Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon ordered that Chua be named in September last year. Chua filmed upskirt videos and videos of victims in the shower from 2014 to 2015 when he was in junior college in Singapore, from 2016 to 2018 when he was a full-time national serviceman, and from October 2018 when he was studying at a UK university. Chua estimated the total number of voyeuristic videos he filmed to be "maybe three digit". He said he committed the offences when he felt stressed due to school or work, and felt that filming the victims "was an addiction" to him.

11 of Chua's victims asked for the gag order to be lifted last year.

They added that he "has got the propensity and interest to further his studies. The video was viewed on a pornographic website over 38,000 times. They asked for three charges of insulting a woman’s modesty — one for each year Chua committed the offences — and one of possessing obscene films to run consecutively. The victims’ identities, their relationship to the culprit, the name of the university that Chua is currently enrolled at, and the names of the schools the victims attend are still protected by a gag order. According to CNA, Chua estimated the number of illicit videos that he had filmed over the years to be "maybe three digit". On Dec. 2 2015, he placed a recording device in the toilet of the hotel room in which he and his friends were intending to use after their junior college's prom night.
