NBA Finals Game 6, Warriors vs. Celtics live updates: Golden State ... (USA TODAY)

The Celtics' Game 5 loss Monday was the first time hey had dropped consecutive games all playoffs. They haven't lost three in a row since December.

Steph Curry has a lot of friends on the professional golf circuit. "And also being in these situations throughout the year where we had to battle back after a big hole early in the season, all of those things bode well for us." But the Celtics climbed back into the game and cut the Warriors lead to 76-66 with a 16-4 run to close the third. The Celtics were 16-19 after that December 29 defeat but found their stride in the new year to finish the regular season 51-31, proceeding to knock off the Nets, Bucks and Heat, respectively, in the playoffs. Based on the criteria of the word valuable, it would not be outlandish to give Wiggins a vote at this point. Identifying the best player in a series is much easier — and more appropriate. The Boston Celtics came out on a mission. Jayson Tatum has made a habit of starting slow this series, but that wasn’t the case in Game 6. Ime Udoka instantly pulled Tatum out of the game as the Warriors lead ballooned to 14. Curry has 5 points, in addition to Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, who knocked down his first three of the entire NBA Finals. (He was 0-for-12 beyond the arch until that shot). The Splash Brothers, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, led the Warriors with 12 points each. Now they are back in a familiar spot: on top of the NBA.

NBA finals Game 6: Golden State Warriors 103-90 Boston Celtics ... (The Guardian)

Rolling report: The Golden State Warriors were too good for the Boston Celtics as they wrapped up the finals series 4-2.

“Because it’s going to be the hardest game you probably ever played in your career because of what the stakes are.” In the mean time, feel free to send thoughts and feelings to @LengelDavid or via Email. Not that it mattered as Andrew Wiggins, the former No 1 overall pick, stepped up and gave the most important performance of his career. They need to stop this bleeding before the Garden becomes a morgue. “You just understand what the nerves are like,” Curry told reporters earlier this week. That’s really the difference here, along with the Warriors threes and the Celtics lack of them, of course. So they’ll have to snap out of their Garden mediocrity if there’s going to be another cross-country haul in their future. That’s the half, one that started a lot better for Boston than it finished. Thanks to Andrew Wiggins piking up Golden State, Boston are back in a similar situation: having to sweep two games. Then Brown comes right back with a left handed layup of his own for Boston. It looks good, but the Celtics need stops. Curry walks, but they don’t call it - he passes to Thompson, who hits a fadeaway, straight on. And now we begin to wonder if they can do it all again in 2022-2023.

NBA Finals 2022 - Best sights and sounds from Warriors-Celtics ... (ESPN)

It was win or go home for the Celtics in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The Warriors ended the night hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy. Here are the best scenes ...

With Game 6 in Boston and the Celtics having not lost three straight games since late December, folks were revved up to see a battle on the court tonight. After the Celtics took a 12-2 lead early in the first quarter, former Celtic Ray Allen was shown on the video board during a timeout and was given a loud ovation. So for the second time in these playoffs, Golden State's shootaround playlist included Boston's own New Edition and group members who famously went solo. About 75 minutes before Game 6, fans gave a big ovation when Al Horford made his way onto the court for Celtics' warm-ups. It was a busy day for Gucci Mane. Not only did the rapper announce he was releasing an album at midnight, he decided to take in some championship basketball at TD Garden before the drop. Oh, and don't forget: For the first four games of this series, Boston was dominated in the third quarter. As they have so many times in this series, the Celtics failed to press their advantage. Things couldn't have gone better for the Celtics over the first few minutes of Game 6. Allen, a member of Boston's 2008 title team, had famously fallen out with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce after leaving to join the Miami Heat in 2012, but it seems like time has healed old wounds. That's partly because of Al Horford, who was up to 16 points and 11 rebounds and had been flying around -- particularly in the second half. The Celtics managed to erase their series long third quarter issues for a second straight game. Golden State had previously struggled to close out series on the road this postseason.

Warriors vs. Celtics - Game Recap - June 16, 2022 - ESPN (ESPN)

Golden State wasn’t rattled and responded with a 35-8 run that stretched into the second quarter on the way to building as much as a 22-point lead. A Jaylen Brown 3-pointer made it 86-78 with 5:33 to play, but the Warriors never relinquished the lead. It was just the fifth defeat in 22 title-series appearances for Boston, which turned its season around to have a chance at this crown. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver could not be at the game because he remained in the league’s health and safety protocols related to the virus. ... You knew it was a possibility, but to see it in real time. The Warriors used their two-year hiatus from the NBA’s biggest stages to retool their roster – adding a past No. 1 draft pick in Andrew Wiggins, who excelled in his first finals, along with another rising star in Jordan Poole. “Injuries, the changing of the guard, rosters, the young guys. “It was dog days, a lot of tears shed. Stephen Curry scored 34 points and was named the NBA Finals MVP as the Warriors claimed the franchise’s seventh championship overall. “They’re all unique, they’re all special," coach Steve Kerr said of the multiple titles. That means a lot when you get to this stage.” “It’s part of a championship pedigree, our experience,” he said.

Ray Allen and Paul Pierce at TD Garden for Celtics-Warriors Game 6 (CBS News)

Two of the Celtics' Big 3 from the franchise's 2008 championship team are at TD Garden for Thursday night's Game 6 against the Warriors.

Fellow 2008 champs Eddie House and Glen Davis are also at TD Garden for Thursday night's game. But the hatchet was buried with Allen recently, as he was at TD Garden in March for Garnett's jersey retirement ceremony. Pierce is no stranger to TD Garden since retiring from the NBA, and has been spotted a few times during Boston's current postseason run.

Celtics left to ponder what could have been after NBA Finals defeat (NBC Sports Boston)

The in-season turnaround was improbable, but that doesn't take away from the sting of watching the Warriors win an NBA title at TD Garden Thursday night.

Maybe it’s just one of the first chapters in a string of novels about the core pieces of this team. Along the way, it felt a little bit like the Isaiah Thomas-led surge of 2017. It’ll take a while to get past the sting that lingers. Maybe the final scene will motivate a young core to ensure these sort of opportunities don’t slip away again. The Celtics cannot bank solely on internal development to ensure another trek to the championship stage. The Celtics calmly flew to Miami and won on the road to punch their ticket to the Finals. Robert Williams might be the key to Boston’s championship hopes with the way he impacts the team on the defensive end. Jayson Tatum made multiple leaps en route to an All-NBA first team nod (and a sixth-place finish in MVP voting). Tatum’s Finals struggles will cause some to re-litigate his status in the NBA hierarchy but the progress he made, particularly as a playmaker, was undeniable. President of basketball operations Brad Stevens rolled the dice a couple times during his first year at the helm (particularly with acquiring Al Horford and Derrick White) but constructed a roster in which all the pieces complemented each other and pulled in the same direction. A path to the NBA Finals soon emerged, particularly with Bucks All-Star (and Celtics shredder) Khris Middleton sidelined for the conference semifinals. First-year coach Ime Udoka scoffed at the notion that his team ought to dodge the Brooklyn Nets in Round 1 of the playoffs. A fast start inside a raucous Garden delivered daydreams of a Game 7 showdown in San Francisco. Steph Curry and his sharpshooting pals burst that bubble with a 21-0 run stretching into the second quarter.
