The root issue seems to be that Instagram doesn’t remember where you left off when viewing someone’s stories. On Wednesday morning, Instagram released an update in the App Store that seems to have resolved the issue. The issue has affected several Verge staff members since Monday, and some Reddit users have reported the same thing is happening to them.

Despite previously viewing a user’s story, people are having to rewatch the same story every time that user posts. “Earlier today, some people were having trouble accessing Instagram Stories,” an email from a Meta spokesperson said Wednesday. “Instagram better fix whatever is happening with them IG stories repeating,” said one user.

An issue with repeating Stories, which has been plaguing iPhone users, seems to have started on Monday.

In the Apple app store, Instagram said the update, listed as Version 239.1, "contains bug fixes and performance improvements." The company has acknowledged the bug and on Wednesday released an update for its iOS app to fix it. Instagram didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

To install the update on your iPhone, go to the App Store, then tap your profile in the top right.
