Stephen Curry recorded 43 points and 10 rebounds and the Golden State Warriors evened the NBA Finals at two games apiece with a 107-97 (27-28, 22-26, 30-24, ...
Tatum had 16 points as the Celtics led 54-49 at halftime. Smart drained a 3-pointer to give Boston a 94-90 lead with 5:18 remaining, but the Warriors answered with 10 consecutive points. Al Horford ended the Celtics' drought by hitting a 3-pointer with 1:32 left. Curry scored 14 points in the quarter and made four 3-pointers, with three of the treys coming in the final 4:19. The last one gave Golden State a 79-78 edge with 58.5 seconds left in the stanza. His previous high in this year's postseason was 34. Klay Thompson scored 18 points and Andrew Wiggins contributed 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Warriors. Jordan Poole added 14 points for Golden State.
He's already an all-time great, but Steph Curry may have just delivered the best NBA Finals performance of his career.
They still have several players with an exceptional combination of length and athleticism to throw at Curry, who is often on the floor with multiple non-shooters who make it even easier for Boston to key in on him. When that many pivotal players struggle, it usually spells the end in the finals. The series is still tied up at 2 heading back to San Francisco and the Celtics have gotten far more consistent performances from most of their best players. A lot happened in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. With their backs against the wall, the Golden State Warriors fought for a pivotal 107-97 victory on the Boston Celtics' home floor to even the series at 2-2. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr benched Draymond Green at multiple points late in the fourth quarter for the first time in years. Yet all of that would have been meaningless without Steph. Curry has already established himself as one of the best players in NBA history.
Fifteen offensive rebounds led to 22 second-chance points for the Celtics, a significant factor in Golden State's 116-100 loss. Boston had just 13 offensive ...
“We just have to muster physicality,” Looney said. Have to do better guarding the ball as well.” We got to do a better job with that.” This marked Porter’s first start of the postseason. To counter, Looney needs to be on the court more. And Boston exploited that, as it drove into the paint 61 times in Game 3, 15 more than it has averaged in the playoffs. “That’s the game for us,” Kerr said. And as has been the case in these playoffs, it’s difficult for Kerr to play Green alongside Looney without sacrificing spacing. “Yeah, that was a big issue,” Kerr said. Eight of Boston’s 24 rebounds in the first half came on offense, resulting in 13 second-chance points. We know the formula. “We have to hit bodies and get all the long boards.
“It could have been an easier road,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka lamented, and not for the first time this postseason. For a full month now, dating to May 11, the ...
You have to summon that kind of will and intensity and passion, and those guys have that.” Those are the nooks and crannies of the chess match that goes on in each and every competitive NBA playoff series. “We had to do it the difficult way,” Udoka said. The Warriors made the biggest lineup change of the series so far by starting Otto Porter Jr. instead of Kevon Looney, and that one seemed to have no impact. I think that’s kind of the beauty of it, that it’s not going to be easy. They led by as many as five in the fourth frame but scored just one basket in the final five minutes. Tatum shot 8-of-23 and connected on just 1-of-3 shots in the fourth quarter. Smart said Curry is “the one guy you can’t allow to beat you,” but that’s precisely what Curry is doing. And now there is Game 4 of the Finals, on Friday night at TD Garden, with Stephen Curry supposedly playing on one foot, Klay Thompson having forgotten how to shoot and Draymond Green stuck in his own head. But Golden State is without question the most experienced, Finals-hardened, decorated team that exists in today’s NBA. The Celtics’ pattern of playing well early in series, then fumbling away these fantastic opportunities is what makes them plucky and lovable. The champs and Antetokounmpo and the longtime nemesis Heat with Butler, those are two pretty impressive pelts on the Celtics’ wall. Or Game 6, Eastern Conference finals, at home against the top-seeded but wheezing Miami Heat, seemingly with too many injuries to too many key players to keep up.
The Golden State Warriors will play against the Boston Celtics tonight for Game 4 of the NBA Finals at 6pm PT in Boston.
In even better news, the Warriors expect Curry to play on Friday despite a scary injury he suffered in Game 3 during a pileup for a loose ball. The Golden State Warriors are looking to bounce back during their NBA Finals Game 4 matchup against the Boston Celtics on Friday night. However, every Golden State run was swiftly responded to with a demoralizing run by Boston, culminating in a dominant fourth quarter where they outscored the Warriors, 23-11.
This might as well be an elimination game for the Warriors, who are not going to become the second team in NBA history recover from a 3-1 Finals deficit to ...
I expect the Celtics to start to separate themselves in Game 4. The Celtics are daring the Warriors to beat them one-on-one, and Curry is the only scorer they have who's capable of doing so. The Celtics were the more physical team throughout Game 3, and at times they simply looked too big and too athletic for Golden State to match up with, and that's not necessarily something you can scheme against. The Warriors need him to do so much, and if he's not at full strength it's going to be tough for them to win. The other issue for the Warriors is that they've had trouble finding consistent scoring outside of Steph Curry, while the Celtics have had more consistent contributions. Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins showed signs of life on offense in Game 3 which was encouraging, but Golden State couldn't stop anyone on the other end of the floor. They won't get dominated on the boards again, and Draymond Green is going to come out with the fire and passion we saw in Game 2. Yet the Warriors, as far as we know, are still the Warriors, and recency bias reigns supreme in the NBA. So barring Curry being too hurt to truly help, the sky is most likely not actually falling on the Warriors -- and a win shifts this series and its momentum back into their hands. I can't pick the Warriors when I don't think they have figured out a winning formula *and* Steph might be hobbled. Bill Reiter: It felt certain earlier in the week that the Warriors would win one of these two games in Boston. Steph Curry is Steph Curry. Klay Thompson would certainly reclaim his shooting touch, at least for one game. That said, the Boston Celtics increasingly look like the clearly superior team. I think the Warriors will find a way to win Game 4 and turn it into a three-game series going back to San Francisco, but most of my colleagues disagree.
Stephen Curry scored 43 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 107-97 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA finals on Friday night.
Williams was listed as questionable coming into the game with the knee injury that kept him out at the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. Curry’s ankle was an issue coming into the night after Boston’s Al Horford landed on it late in Game 3. The amped-up crowd spent much of the game booing Green, chanting an obscenity at him that is usually reserved for Bucky Dent, and jeering his many misses. “The things he does, we kind of take for granted at times, to go out there and put us on his back. Marcus Smart, who scored 18 points, hit a three-pointer to give the Celtics a 94-90 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and 16 boards for the Warriors, who have won at least one road game for 27 consecutive playoff series.
Stephen Curry's 43-point masterpiece in Game Four of the NBA Finals on Friday left his Warriors teammates, his coaches and basketball fans everywhere in awe ...
"I don't rank my performances," Curry said. His conditioning is second to none in this league. Advertisement
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry had what teammate Klay Thompson called his best Finals performance to date, scoring 43 points to lead the Warriors ...
"He was going to come out with that type of fire," Green said. Green added: "You just try to do what you can to help free him up to get him to his spots or open up some space for him to create and get to his spots. "The things he does we kind of take for granted from time to time," Thompson said. ... I think if everybody is forceful on the offensive end, and that means with cuts, that means crisp with your passes, then you allow him to be in the position to do what he does." But Curry outscored the rest of the Warriors' starters 43-39. He became just the fifth guard in NBA history to have at least 40 points and 10 rebounds in a Finals game. Kevon Looney, who came off of the bench for the first time this series, had 11 rebounds and finished with a plus-21 net rating. But it was Curry who carried them to the point when that shot could become the dagger. With just over a minute left in the game and the Warriors up three, Green grabbed the offensive rebound off a missed Thompson 3-pointer. "Felt like we just had to let everybody know that we were here tonight," Curry said. On Friday, he scored 10 in the final frame. BOSTON -- Stephen Curry isn't one to show tons of emotion throughout the course of a game.
Stephen Curry captures the moment, Steve Kerr makes a crucial choice in the 4th and more thoughts as the Warriors retake homecourt advantage.
“Well, you have a group of guys who are going to be in the Hall of Fame someday: Steph, Klay, Draymond,” he said. There were times in that series when Tatum was the best player on a floor he shared with a two-time MVP and NBA champ (Giannis Antetokounmpo). Then against the Heat he closed out strong, averaging 28 points and 10 rebounds in the last two games. Coach Steve Kerr had a perfectly reasonable answer for the Warriors’ road success in the Steph Curry era. When two superior teams meet, the city and the name of the arena rarely is ever matters. Contrast this to the First Round Tatum, Second Round Tatum and the East Finals Tatum. It wasn’t too long ago when he had a career-defining 43-point masterpiece against the Bucks and in a two-game stretch had 80 points and another game with 13 rebounds. A few switches to get favorable matchups and jumpers followed, and the job was done, with 10 rebounds a bonus on the tally. It was a chilling sign for the Celtics, who were mostly helpless against the carnage done by Curry and his first 40-piece of the 2022 postseason. Otherwise, it was a mild effort by Green and a forgettable two-game stay in Boston, capped by a fourth-quarter removal. Oh, and doing this against a tough defensive team such as the Celtics, that’s a bonus, should Curry and the Warriors pull this off. Both were possible because Kerr sat Green for Kevon Looney midway through a tight fourth quarter — and perhaps as a result, the Warriors’ chances increased. Curry was in for an epic night, a defining night for him in the Finals, where in the past he hasn’t always been at his peak. So: About that left foot he and the raised red flags?

"It's just special to watch what he does," Thompson added. "I mean, this was nearly a must-win game," Thompson told reporters. But it wasn't just his remarkable efficiency in front of a raucous Boston crowd that made this performance special.
The NBA Finals return to Chase Center for a pivotal Game 5 matchup between the Warriors and Celtics.
Marcus Smart, Derrick White and Al Horford also have had their moments offensively for the Celtics in the Finals, who as a team are shooting 49 percent in their wins and 39 percent in their losses. He’s averaging 34.3 points while shooting over 49 percent (both overall and on 3-pointers), and he’s made no fewer than five threes in any game in these Finals. Should he keep up at this pace, this will be Curry’s highest scoring performance in his NBA Finals career, and the third highest scoring postseason series overall. He’s averaging 3.0 blocks per game and has the second best average plus-minus rating (+5.0) among players who play at least 15 minutes a game in this series, trailing only Looney. The Celtics have been the best road team during this postseason, and they’ll need that to ring true at least one more time to keep their Championship hopes alive. AST: Tatum (6.2) Wiggins has been dealt the tough task of defending Boston’s All-NBA star Jayson Tatum. And just as he did against Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Finals, Wiggins is making Tatum work for everything he gets in The Finals. Tatum is averaging 22.3 points while shooting 34.1 percent from the field, down from the 27.0 points on 44.6 percent shooting he had through the first three rounds of the postseason. In fact, the Warriors have outscored the Celtics by a single point (422-421) through the first four games. Curry made seven threes in the game and Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the win, which tied the series up at 2-2. AST: Green (6.2) Stephen Curry had 43 points and the Warriors ended a tightly contested game with a 17-3 run to win Game 4, 107-97, in Boston on Friday night. The Warriors have won the third quarter in each of the first four games of the series and are a cumulative plus-49 in that period for the series, but Boston rode dominant fourth quarters to each of their wins in Games 1 and 3. AST: 27.2 (1st) The Dubs have gone 10-1 at home this postseason, and with three games at most left in the series, the Warriors can and will use any edge they can with each team two wins away from an NBA Championship. If Monday’s Game 5 plays out anything like the first four games, it will be decided in the second half, as the team who has won the second half has won each of the first four games in the series.
Game 4 infuriated Celtics fans, but that's the beauty of the series: For all the mistakes, they're still two wins from banner No. 18.
And either win the NBA title there or take care of business in Game 6 at the Garden, as the Celtics did to the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals. It’s infuriating if you’re a Celtics fan, which makes one imagine the thunder and lightning going inside Udoka’s head when things don’t go right. Marcus Smart was asked about Tatum’s rough night and if perhaps he and some of the fellas have talked with him. Not on purpose. Not on purpose. Instead, he submitted his usual array of lovely shots, including the customary precision treys, but also a one-handed feather duster from in close. “Everybody was just kind of standing around, looking at whoever had the ball. Nobody’s ever going to compare the 2021-22 Warriors and the ’21-22 Celtics with, say, the 1995-96 Bulls, the ’70-71 Bucks and the ’85-86 Celtics. We trust in you, we believe in you.’ ” The flaws we’ve seen in this series are many, and on both sides, but they have somehow humanized a superhuman sport. But that’s not the point. The easiest way to answer the question is to pose this question: Are these great teams?

Warriors coach Steve Kerr benched Draymond Green for part of the fourth quarter in Golden State's Game 4 victory.
ABC ABC ABC Overall though, Green was benched for about five minutes in the fourth quarter of a pivotal Game 4. "We took him out and put Loon in around maybe the eight-minute mark maybe, 7:40, which was our plan, anyway," Kerr said postgame. After three quarters, Green had a decent stat line of five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Steph Curry stole the show, but the Warriors wouldn't have been victorious without these three in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

Draymond Green wasn't happy when he was benched during the fourth quarter of the Warriors' Game 4 win over the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.
And it was huge for them to keep my mind in the game, and they kept my mind there. “I credit Juan Toscano-Anderson … Not only was he in my ear the whole night, but when I was frustrated when I came back out of the game at the seven-and-a-half minute mark, he was in my ear,” Green said. Absolutely,” Green said on the latest episode of “ The Draymond Green Show” podcast, which he recorded after the game.

These stats show just how incredible Steph Curry's 43-point performance was in Game 4 against the Celtics.
And for Curry, two wins away from his first NBA Finals MVP award. With the series tied two-games-apiece and heading back to Chase Center, Curry and the Warriors are just two wins away from their fourth championship in eight seasons. The Warriors superstar scored a whopping 43 points with 10 rebounds on 14-of-26 shooting from the floor and 7-of-14 from 3-point range in Golden State's 107-97 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden.
Celtics' Jayson Tatum has averaged only 22 points and shot 34% in two losses to the Warriors. 'I just got to be better,' he said after a Game 4 loss.
“It’s kind of on me to do that more often than not just to help my team in the best way that I can,” he said. I think just quick decisions, don’t turn down any open looks, any daylight that I have, just continue to try to make the right pass.” In their two losses those numbers drop to 22 points per game and 34% from the field. “I just got to be better,” Tatum said after Golden State’s 107-97 win in Game 4 Friday night to tie the best-of-seven series. We’ve just got to move,” he said. It hurt most after the Celtics took a 94-90 lead, only to miss six consecutive shots during a 10-0 Warriors run.

Perhaps no player had a greater impact on this game for Golden State than Andrew Wiggins, who finished with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Having the ball late in the shot-clock and being assertive is what will win Boston this series. Through four games in the 2022 NBA Finals now, Curry is averaging 34.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and is shooting 49.8% from the floor, 49.1% from three-point range. BOSTON — While reviewing video of Wednesday's loss to the Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had a nagging ...
Come Game 5 at Chase Center on Monday, Looney might find himself back in the starting lineup. In addition to having the size advantage over White, Looney knew where to be and what pass to make. But at times this postseason, even he has been lulled into believing that Looney belonged on the bench. As the ball clanked off the back of the rim, Looney simply used his 7-4 wingspan to reach over White’s head, yank down the offensive rebound and kick out to Curry, who found Andrew Wiggins for an open 3-pointer. Such a play won’t make any “SportsCenter” highlights, but it can be the difference between a win and a loss. After starting the Warriors’ first four postseason games, Looney came off the bench the next six as the staff tinkered with smaller lineups. With Looney patrolling the paint during that critical stretch, Golden State flipped a four-point deficit into a three-point lead. But after assessing all that went wrong in that blowout, Kerr still replaced Looney with Otto Porter Jr. in the starting lineup for Game 4 on Friday night. If Looney has proved anything in these playoffs, it’s that he deserves 25-plus minutes a night regardless of the situation. The Warriors have outscored opponents by 5.3 more points per 100 possessions these playoffs with Looney on the floor than with him off it. But guard Stephen Curry later conceded that the move said more about how the Warriors view Looney than Green’s rough night. In just 91 total minutes, Looney has grabbed 34 rebounds (14 offensive), swatted five shots and posted a series-best plus-minus of plus-36.
As Game 4 of the NBA Finals proved, whispers of Klay Thompson's defensive decline...
But late in the game when the Warriors needed to make a stand, Thompson smothered Brown. Thompson’s defense was critical in the Warriors’ 15-0 run to finish Game 4, and it led to better offense down the stretch. Brown, Boston’s leading scorer in the Finals, had been a problem the Warriors hadn't quite figured out, other than Draymond Green’s tremendous effort in Game 2. Offensively, Thompson scored the Warriors’ first points of the night on a crafty layup underneath the rim. And while Thompson shot just 7-of-17 from the field, his defense in Game 4 — especially in the fourth quarter against Celtics star Jaylen Brown — was borderline elite. At the same time, Brown started to get going offensively with Thompson guarding him. Despite poor shooting, Thompson stuck with it on defensive end, and it eventually led to offensive success. Thompson was guarding Horford to start Game 4, as he did in Games 2 and 3. But Thompson started pressing a bit in the second quarter. He also checked Brown and Smart in spurts. He scored 25 points in Golden State’s 116-110 Game 3 loss, but went 5-of-13 from deep. But the team had no way of knowing for certain whether he’d be 100%.

Lewis, who has officiated over 1,000 regular season games in 17 seasons, has officiated five previous Finals games. Boston is 15-1 in games officiated by Lewis dating back to 2020, according to the NBA Ref Stats Twitter account. His first experience was in the 2019 NBA Finals between the Warriors and Toronto Raptors. Lewis officiated two games in both the 2020 and 2021 NBA Finals.

After a poor shooting performance on Friday, Green made an impact late in the fourth quarter and helped the Warriors secure the win to even the best-of-seven Finals at two games apiece. And with Game 5 at Chase Center right around the corner, the Green family hopefully will have even more to celebrate come Monday night. After the Warriors took Game 4 of the NBA Finals by a score of 107-97 against the Boston Celtics on Friday, Green was met by a pretty cute congratulatory committee on the TD Garden court.
