Oh said: "I was complacent with my life before the accident… I was wrapped up like a mummy in the hospital." "My life is boring now," Oh lamented, saying that she is unable to work out or meet her friends as much as she used to.
Ms Raybe Oh, who ran to a burning car in Tanjong Pagar to save her boyfriend after an accident, shared her recovery process with CNA.
All she needed was determination, focus, and discipline. Since Singapore’s weather is warm and humid, she tries to stay indoors as much as possible. In an exclusive interview with Channel NewsAsia (CNA) almost 1.5 years after the accident, Ms Oh shared that she has since endured more than 40 surgeries. The brave attempt, however, proved futile and left burns on 80% of her body. Admitting that she had been too complacent with her life before the accident, Ms Oh said she decided to step out of her comfort zone to show that someone with a “strong personality” can achieve anything. Four months after the accident, Ms Oh recalled being wrapped like a “mummy” while lying in the hospital bed 24/7. She was also unable to turn her body due to the pain she was in.

"I know how beauty can be very important to a person. "There's more I can do without my looks. And Singapore is so hot and humid, so I’ll try to stay in as much as possible." "My throat has been hurt from all the intubation, from general anaesthesia. "I'm very happy, very glad that I have very strong support from my family and my [deceased] boyfriend's family, my close friends as well. Business seems to be going well. I was wrapped up like a mummy in a hospital," she told CNA in her first on-camera interview since the crash, as she reflected on those early months in hospital. "It's been quite tough for me because every time after the surgery, I'll be in a lot of pain. Her condition means the former air stewardess needs to avoid going outdoors if possible. They took care of me very well." The searing red blisters on her right hand are testament to the physical agony. Even physiotherapy is painful for me."

The passenger cabin was also on fire. Based on evidence from the witnesses, the group was "excited" to feel how the two-door car drove, said SSS Firdaus. According to autopsy reports, all five died of severe burns in the fire that engulfed the car and shophouse into which it crashed. The car completed this route without incident during the first three rounds. Seconds later, flames engulfed the car. The speed limit on Tanjong Pagar Road was 50kmh. The crew was unable to approach the car due to the intensity of the heat, SSS Firdaus told the court. HSA's speed analysis showed that the speed of the car was up to 88kmh during the first round, up to 59kmh during the second round and up to 130kmh during the third round. SSS Firdaus also informed the court that the airbags were not activated in the collision because the airbag sensor was at the front and sides of the car, while the crash was at the car's rear. SCDF first arrived at the scene at 5.46am and saw that a fire had engulfed the rear and top of the car. The route saw the car go from the restaurant on Tanjong Pagar Road towards Keppel, before it made a U-turn at Enggor Street after Amara Hotel to return to Tanjong Pagar Road towards Maxwell. It then made another U-turn near 37 Tanjong Pagar Road to return to the restaurant. The airbags also did not deploy because the sensors were on the front and side of the vehicle, IO Firdaus said. State Coroner Nakhoda adjourned the inquiry to next week, saying that he will consider the evidence so far and determine if more witnesses should be called. The flames then rapidly developed and engulfed the car, Major Huang said. The BMW was sent for a mechanical inspection. For the third round, Ms Phoo was the driver with only Mr Park in the car with her. He also had a 46 per cent saturation level of carboxyhaemoglobin in his blood from smoke inhalation. Engine heat could also lead to premature deterioration, IO Firdaus said. Wong, Tan, Teo and Yap then entered the car as well. IO Firdaus said that Wong had a seatbelt on, while Teo did not because he was sitting in a non-designated seat. The taxi driver, along with another eyewitness who was staying at Tanjong Pagar Plaza, described hearing an extremely loud revving sound. The drink-driving limit is 80mg per 100ml. Long then wanted to show off his newly bought white BMW to his friends outside the restaurant.
A senior fire investigator's report said that it is unlikely the fire started from the engine.
The other four passengers were also found to be drunk. When the first SCDF crew arrived at the scene, flames had already engulfed the rear and top sections of the vehicle. According to Huang's report on the incident, the car's collision with the shophouse severely deformed the car's exhaust system, which caused it to come into contact with the vehicle's fuel tank.
