Everything Apple Announced at WWDC 2022: New MacBooks, iOS ... (WIRED)

The company's annual developer conference kicked off today, with a keynote address stuffed with new product news.

There’s also a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip inside. Apple’s new chip is built on the same proprietary hardware that the company’s been packing into most of its new machines. But there’s also a new MacBook Air and a new M2 processor. Inside, there’s a new M2 chip (more on that below) that improves performance and battery life. The 2022 MacBook Air has a new case design that’s 20 percent thinner than the previous model, and it features slimmer bezels around the screen and a smaller notch for the webcam at the top of the display. Also, big news: It has MagSafe. The magnetic charging attachment appears on the new MacBook Air in place of the Thunderbolt charging that Apple has been moving toward lately.

Everything Apple revealed at its WWDC 2022 event (Mashable)

The new Macbook Air is the first Mac to have the M2 chip, which is Apple's most powerful processor. That includes an improved display to make it a better second screen, along with a new app called Freeform which is like a shareable blank canvas for real-time collaboration. All-around improvements to watchOS make the Apple Watch a major standout in the fitness tracking game. iOS 16 has major improvements to Maps, an "always-on" lock screen with widgets, new Wallet and Apple Pay features, real time iCloud photo-sharing, and updated parental controls. First and foremost, we have to pay tribute to the man who carried this event on his back, because most of it was actually pretty boring. Throughout the two-hour event, Federighi shocked and delighted a captivated audience with his commanding presence and committed wholeheartedly to several bits that you know Tim Cook never would've agreed to.

Apple WWDC 2022: No Privacy Bombshells, But The Writing's On ... (AdExchanger)

Apple didn't mention fingerprinting at WWDC on Monday, as many expected – but that doesn't mean enforcement isn't coming at some point soon … ish.

In other news, the lack of privacy-related bombshells at WWDC may have been a minor boost to some tech stocks that are still reeling from Apple’s past privacy changes. (When Apple started rejecting apps with Adjust’s SDK last year for alleged fingerprinting, the result was a confusing mess, to say the least.) Apple would have to reject updates from any app partnered with an SDK deemed to be in violation of the policies.

The system is embedded within Apple devices and uses cryptographic techniques combined with built-in TouchID and FaceID technology to lock a user’s credentials with biometrics. Adler claimed passkeys are more secure, easier to use and could eventually replace passwords for good. He also said passkeys are not as vulnerable to phishing and theft attempts because they are not stored in the cloud.
