Coutinho added the fourth with 10 minutes remaining and Jesus scored a fifth three minutes into injury time when he sprinted through the Korea defence to score low into the corner. Neymar netted from the spot to put his side back in front three minutes before halftime and he was on hand with another penalty in the 57th minute before late goals from Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus put the seal on a comprehensive win. Receiving possession with his back to goal, Hwang used all his upperbody strength to hold off Silva before turning to fire his right foot shot into the far corner.

Jesus on target as Brazil thrash South Korea (Manchester City FC)

Gabriel Jesus came off the bench to round off the scoring as Brazil beat South Korea 5-1 in an international friendly.

Everton forward Richarlison had opened the scoring inside seven minutes, but the hosts drew level after the half hour through Hwang Ui-Jo. But further strikes from fellow substitute Phillipe Coutinho and Jesus helped guide Tite’s side to a convincing victory. The forward was introduced in the 78th minute, replacing Leeds’ Raphinha with the scoreline in Seoul at 3-1.

Since 2019, Bolsonaro has advocated for the practice of reconciliation hearings to speed up the fine process. But environmental defenders say the option for reconciliation should not exist at all. It emphasized that the decree significantly increases fines, and defended environmental reconciliation hearings as helping to ensure "more efficiency" in collecting them.

Brazil Is at the Vanguard of Payments Worldwide (pymnts.com)

The Digitizing Payments In Latin America Playbook delves into the obstacles the LatAm region faces during the current push for digital adoption.

Improving financial inclusion in Mexico and continuing to wean citizens off cash is the key concern as Latin American countries realize that without a push toward digital adoption, their economies are at risk of falling behind. With recent research in dicating that economic growth is more sluggish for cash-reliant societies than for those shifting to digital payments, the war against cash in the region is taking greater precedence than ever. As the world adopts digital payment options at a breakneck pace, Latin American countries have typically lagged in the shift away from cash to alternative payment methods, including digital wallets, QR codes and other contactless payment options.

In the final seconds, another substitute, Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, completed a perfect evening for the South Americans after running through the backline. “We made too many defensive mistakes against a strong team and we need to improve,” South Korea coach Paulo Bento said. Brazil was back ahead three minutes before the break after a penalty was given following a foul on Alex Sandro. Neymar sent Kim Seung-gyu the wrong way to roll the ball into the net. It struggled to get joint EPL golden boot winner Son into the game but was back on level terms on the half-hour with a well-worked goal. The lively Juventus wing back was again brought down in the area and Neymar once more waited for the goalkeeper to commit himself before calmly stroking the ball home for his 73rd goal for Brazil. That's just four fewer than Pele, Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer. Richarlison silenced the 66,000 fans who filled Seoul World Cup Stadium to capacity after just seven minutes with an opportunistic strike.

Should Google pay for news in Brazil? It's complicated (Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard)

No solution is ideal. The worst thing that journalists can do, however, is to step aside and let media owners and platforms decide among themselves.

The solution should not allow Big Tech to remain free and unregulated, nor should it force it to pay the same media owners that have lobbied against diversity in media. While 43 legacy media companies formed a coalition to support the payment, another 50 organizations including the Association of Investigative Journalists (Abraji), the National Federation of Journalists (Fenaji), and the National Forum for the Democratization of Communication asked for the obligation of payment to be excluded from the bill. We at Ajor signed a manifesto that called for a broader discussion that addresses “imbalances” between small- and medium-sized players and the legacy media conglomerates. The payment for news content was a hushed addition to a draft legislation whose stated aim is to mitigate the effects of disinformation. A couple of years ago, many of the founders decided it was time to join forces to create an association. Since then, thousands of journalists have been fired from legacy newspapers in Brazil. As a nonprofit whose mission is to support independent journalism, we felt responsible for helping others create their own media outlets.

“This dish is a big hit in the restaurant and people really love it. Needless to say, while everyone loves Guto’s cooking, he prefers his mother’s. “She’s back home in Brazil and she still cooks,” he says, admitting that though no dish is now too challenging, “there are some things that she cooks that I have never even tried. Sometimes a taste or a scent can transport you and this lemon mousse takes me back to my mom and her cooking.” “In Brazil we have a snack called pastel — it’s dough stuffed with meat and deep fried. So I went to the store, sourced the ingredients and replicated the dish. “Do you know we have the best offering of Lebanese and Japanese cuisine in the world apart from those countries?” The casquinha de siri — crab meat sautéed with coconut milk, palm oil, tomatoes and paprika — could be a dish from along India’s coastline, with the exception of its cheese topping. Some of the desserts may seem familiar but the quindim, baked custard with fresh coconut, and the lemon mousse are highly recommended. “Brazilians love rice and a lot of our food is similar to Indian cuisine,” says Guto, a fact cautious eaters will be glad to know. Cheese bread is not bread per se — it is a bite-sized bun (Indian pav, ring any bells?) filled with the goodness of cheese. Every community needs an ‘adda’ and in Brazil it is ‘boteco’ — a place where one can chew the fat and pass the peace pipe with friends and family. Although at first glance the menu card might seem peppered with tongue twisters, the descriptions are spot on and ordering should not be a problem.

“I am more used to the Japanese culture than my own. Silvia said she is more likely to return to live in Brazil than her brother, and the pull is family. “I prefer Japanese culture,” Silvia said. In Brazil, it’s a little more complicated.” “Only Japanese descendants were playing baseball in Brazil. They didn’t accept my father,” she said. This was part of a well-known eugenics movement in the early 20th century in Brazil. I wanted to stay two or three years and I’m still here.” Several hundred thousand Japanese Brazilians have returned to work in Japan over recent decades, changing the face and cadence of towns and cities. The end of slavery in Brazil in 1888 saw Japanese and others recruited to work under near-bondage conditions on coffee plantations in southern Brazil. Many Brazilians in the Oizumi area returned to work at the local Subaru car plant or other factories. Golden Goal: Roberto Carlos for Brazil v France (1997) (The Guardian)

This was not just a unique goal but the uniquest goal; a goal more unique than all other goals that are also unique.

Twenty-five years later, there remain two categories of free-kick finish: that one and all the others, not just the greatest of its kind but one of the greatest of any kind. Because Carlos hadn’t simply imparted swerve by way of banana shot – in a football skills book of my childhood, this was with the term for an effort hit with outside of the boot, which now I’m a sophisticated metrosexual Guardianista, I of course know as the trivela. Because though Alan Parry and Andy Gray responded with hyperbole, they hadn’t seen what had really happened and nor had we – until we were taken behind the ball in slow motion, at which point everything we thought we knew, not just about football but about the laws of physics, changed. It was good, of course it was, but we’d seen that kind of thing before – Éder for Brazil v Argentina on the Story of the World Cup VHS, Branco v Netherlands in 1994. So, very deliberately, Carlos placed the ball, then paced out a run-up that took him slightly to the right of it … and to the edge of the centre-circle. Accompanying newspaper cuttings of the aforementioned game was a letter extolling the virtues of Phil Ma-sing-ahhhh, along with general vitriol aimed at Manchester United in general and Alex Ferguson in particular.
